I use 100% cotton thread and fabric too. We don't put ours in the microwave, but I make these for other people that might put them in the microwave. BTW, here is a link to Tamarack Shack's pattern that I use:

I changed up the center to reflect quilted circles. These are such great Christmas gifts and fun to make.

I made a baking potato sack with 100% cotton everything. It was removed smouldering even tho' the potato was wrapped in a wet paper towel. Never again.

I have made them for gifts and put a note with them that they are not for use in the microwave but to hold the hot bowl, not comfortable with the thought someone may leave it in the microwave too long,
