Okay --- some of you have followed me in my path of aches and pains --- back ache, going to physical therapy, then found out by chance that I have a UTI - with NO symptoms. Doc did a blood test 2 weeks ago and in that we found out I have MONO!!!!! So THAT explains a lot!!! Holy Moly!!! NOT NOW!!!!! I have so much to do! Nothing can be done but rest and protecting your immune system.

But one word of advice --- apply for life insurance. THAT blood test started the road to finding out what was wrong. In all fairness to my doctor, I didn't complain about a lot of the symptoms.......they were the same symptoms we get as we get old!!!!! Somehow, even though I'm exhausted, I FEEL a lot better -- knowing is half the cure!!!!!

Well my goodness Dee!! I will pray they don't find anything else wrong. You are starting to sound like my DD, everytime we turn around they find something else wrong with her. Hang in there and get better!!

Now who have you been kissing?!! Just teasing, I sure hope you heal quickly from the "kissing disease." Now that you know what's wrong, you'll be able to cure it.

I'm told that Mono is going around the school here. No telling where you picked it up. Get some echinechea or however it's spelled. It will help you immune system.
Hope you feel much better before long...

    Hugs...

My girls and I had mono about 4 or 5 years ago. It is NO fun. Take care of yourself and hopefully you will recover much quicker. And be careful to not let yourself get run down again in the future. My mono flares almost every year now. I've been told once you've had it that's it but that is not true. Every time it comes back I go to the dr and they test my blood and it shows it is active again.

So please take it easy. Lots of rests and liquids.

wow, mono was the start of a quilting career for DH and me! I had it, he was keeping me company while I lay in bed (before we were married) and was bored so he started cutting scraps and sewing. THe rest is history!!

Mono is caused by the Epstein barr virus. Once you have the virus it stays in your system for life.

I have fibromyalgia/lupus and test positive for epstein barr virus but as far as I know I never had mono.

Take extra good care of yourself as you don't want this to turn into fibromyalgia because believe me fibro is misery like I can't explain.

Well, that's interesting. The doctor didn't mention that. I was diagnosed years ago with chronic fatigue and fibro. I'm not bothered by those symptoms since I quit ingesting MSG and Aspertame.

If that is the case I could bet you a hundred dollars that its not mono at all but a flare up of the fibromyalgia.

My mono brought on my fibromyalgia but they are definitely two animals. Yes, you test positive for Epstein Barr but the dr told me that by a certain age everyone tests positive. Most people don't end up with mono with it. You need to have the mono antibodies tests. They show what stage of mono you are in whether it is in incubation, active, or recuperation. they have to do two consecutive tests to see if your numbers are going up or down. Most drs only do the one test that tests for epstein barr which will always be positive if you have ever had mono before. But the mono can still flare into the active stage again.

Yes, mono brings on my fibro flares but it also has its own distinct symptoms that aren't the fibro. I can always tell the difference.

My suggestion would be to get tested again for the mono in a few weeks and see what your numbers are.

Not sure if there's a "difference"....
major fatigue (not like when I went thru the CF/Fibro.
    Nausea constantly (morning sickness 24/7)
heightened allergies (problems with sudden onset - eyes swelling shut)
brain fog (yeah, just like fibro)
burning/tingling in extremities -- think foot falling asleep only would be 2 toes maybe -- and excruitiating -- not just tingling - more like stabbing with a knife
cold/hot sweats (yeah, thought menopause was back)
    confusion
    decreased alertness
    urinating problems
dry cough -- been coughing for 9 months ---- I know - thought it was cancer!
    earaches
    fevers
    headaches -- every day
irritability --- attributed that to sleep problems
    malaise - "something's wrong - but don't know what"
    night sweats
ringing in ears -- mild to severe for me
    sore joints and muscles
    sore throat
tremors -- mild -- comes and goes

I went thru the list online for symptoms and checked off mine......very enlightening. I attributed a # of things to normal older age and arthritis. Some were scaring me.

You can have such a mild case of Mono that you don't know you have/had it. Had mono when I was 18 - throat so sore and swollen I could hardly eat, and glands swollen all over my body. It was agonizing for a few weeks - and my Dr said I had a mild case! My daughter had it when she was 17 and played soccer. She was tired all the time, but didn't complain much of pain. The main thing to worry about with mono is liver/spleen enlargement. If they're enlarged, they can rupture and you can bleed to death. Luckily, since we didn't know that my daughter had mono until the end of soccer season, my daughters spleen and liver were not enlarged.

It was over a year before I felt like I had any energy.

    Feel better.
