Mother's Day?
May I ask why USA seem to be discussing Mother's Day now.? In the UK ours is just before Easter as it was the historical day the master of the large houses allowed staff to visit their families on that day. On the way they would pick the flowers growing on the side of the roads hence daffodils are given in churches to mums.
What is the history behind you celebrating. Now?

We celebrate Mother's Day in Germany the same day (second Sunday in May) as in the US. However, Father's Day in Germany is tied to Christ Ascension Day with is always a Thursday in May. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there

Holidays are different everywhere. Our Mother's Day has been because of the contributions mothers have made throughout history. It was actually signed into history as being official the second Sunday in May. Check out CarolynMT's link.

When I was young, my sis and I often sarcastically referred to certain days as "legalized love days," invented by the card and floral industries to boost their materialistic income; but at this age, I realize that you need a reminder to stop and reflect periodically on your loved ones and your blessings. I really enjoy remembering my Mom on mothers day, and appreciating what I see my daughter doing for her darling children as a Mom, and thanking the powers that be that my children came into this world and blessed me so. Last year I put poems on the gravesites of my dear Mother and my MIL. This year I missed, but I did spend some time thinking about Mom and all she gave me. It is what you make of it, I guess, and that can vary.
