Okay, just a thought to throw in here - it looks like a reflection of a "news stand" [now that you have lightened it] behind your son.

Too tall to be a human, too narrow to be a head. It's a Bass (instrument) in some sort of case or wrapping, and the arm is of the owner, steadying it, waiting to get on the train. Ask Ashley if she saw someone with a large instrument get on the train.
