just that, I am going to tie the skirt bottoms with ultrasuede selvages to make it more round, and then I will roll the top down so the initial planter is about 10" high, fill with my mushroom compost and potting soil mixture and put in my taters! They are easy to roll up as you need to hill the taters. At the end of the season, just toss the planter over on a tarp(old vinyl table cloth) and pick out your taters. THe dirt then goes into a pile to add more compost to for next planting, and the planter gets hosed out, hung up to dry and then folded and put away!
Sorry about that first reply. I really don't know why I clicked send before I wrote anything. What I wanted to say is: that is a wonderful idea! I imagine other things could be planted that way, too. I'll keep it in mind. :)
yes, I just gave the example as they get planted first, but for garlic, onions, turnips, all of underground plants, that are quick crops here in the heat of OK...I use portable pots!

it really is. I started out using plastic tubs, but the heat and cold rot them so fast, and then they become landfill waste...

then I went to burlap bags, but they also rot very quickly and cost a bit more!
then I bought a pot made out of landscape cloth. They are ok, but not real sturdy..
so next came the denim, by accident. I used some denim shorts to make a planter for some tulips...it was amazing! The denim lasts so much longer and is so easy to care for!

The potatoes can be grown in tall cages, just add dirt as the taters grow, keep a lot of the green leaves out of the dirt and you'll have a tower of them at the end of the year. The first I heard of this was done on a farm where they had a lot of old tires, so used them to grow more spuds.

And as for the root crops, mainly the onion family, I do as my hillbilly Grandma did and cut off the roots, go and plant them again and they will gift you with more of them for years. Probably any veggies you buy with some root areas might also grow for you again. Try it, you might like it, and will definitely save a lot of money for fabrics.

Why thank you very much! It's definitely a scrappy one. My first QAYG.

I love this kind of thread with all the good tips. My backyard is full of trees and I don't have a garden spot. I truly wish I did. I do put a few planter tomatoes on my deck but don't have room for many.
