How wonderful for you to have your mom and now to teach her to quilt. You are one lucky person.

Terrific news - it is so good to be busy and happy, if you're alive. We used to go visit my MIL in the nursing home (she was there for 3 years before she passed) and there was a lady there who was always working on a quilt. Her son bought her fabrics, and she had quite a stash there in the corner of the room, where most of the other people had their TV. Her quilts were usually donated for auction by the local volunteer fire dept. I stopped to visit her often, because I was working on some hand quilting when we went up for a visit and enjoyed the comraderie and her spirit. She also made small items, and sold quite a few to the staff for Christmas gifts.

So your Mom is for sure on the right track, and lucky to have you to work with!

How wonderful for your mom - and for you to have a mom still looking for adventures.

How wonderful to want to learn something new at her age. Come to think, I am only a few years behind her and still very active although I learned to quilt several years ago. Learned to appreciate sewing from my Mother at 9 on a treadle machine, taught my daughter at her early age, bought her her first machine when she was 8 which carried her all the way through nursing school. My interest in quilting came from my grandmother for which I am so thankful. M daughter also quilts when she has time from her job as a public school nurse. -- Thank you for sharing and causing me to return to my past.

You're never too old to quilt or learn to quilt. My mom is 88 and still quilts.

You have so much for which to be thankful - that your mom lived to 97 and that she was alert. My husband and I dealt with Alzheimer's in both our mothers. It is a horrible disease that steals the person we have always known. My mom died at 82 in 2004, and his mom died at 86 in 2006. His mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at least 15-16 years before she died. She could not call the name of her husband and her 5 children for several years before she died.
