I had a blog for almost 2 years. It was my online journal of sorts. I've closed it and am thinking of beginning a new one.
It's very time consuming, or was for me, as I posted almost EVERY DAY. However, it's rewarding and I met friends all over the world. I still stay in touch with many that I've never met and probably never will, on a daily basis.
I didn't delete my blog because I want to print it out , as it was my journal. I put lots of photos. People really don't want a lot of words, they want photos with a few words or important information. I used Google Blogger, but if I do it again, will go to Wordpress. I had 200-300 hits per day from all over the world. Lots from EU, AU, CAN, US.

Phyllis, what a great idea to have one blog for you alone to store info! You are always so creative. :-D

I can't take credit for the idea - - I stole the idea from someone else ;)

I have a blog on blogspot and I'm very happy with it. I'm blogging for over a year now and I've met many wonderful people.
After you start blogging you are gathering people around you, you can organise giveaways, contests, etc, and also find some sponsors.
I would say that the good photos and a good design of the page play a major role. It's not about 'how much' (you definitely don't have to post daily, twice a week is surely enough) but 'how good' your posts and creations are.
A very good place to spread the news and meet more people is flickr. Most of the bloggers that I know are very active there (you can join swaps, join groups of people who are interested in teh same topic, show off your designs and skills).

I use blogspot, too and it's free.

I started mine several months ago. I write and post a picture every day, although you don't have to do a picture if you don't want to.

I'm already up to over 12,000 visitors. Mostly from me and others posting the links to some of my pictures and video tutorials elsewhere. I'm not doing it to make money, so I don't have any sponsors or advertisers.

For me the biggest benefit is that all my pictures and writings are housed in the same spot, and I can turn it into a book, too. (The book itself costs, of course.) For me it'll be worth it because I'll have a year of my life documented in print.

    Hi,
I started a blog this past January. I had been looking at them for years but had no idea how to create one. I found that Google Blogger walks you through the process (plus clicking around). Whenever I need a answer to a question (still use it) I just go to google and type in my question and several links show up. Also I have found that there are several bloggers that offer all kinds of advice and also youtube became my friend (at least for me--I like visiual walk through directions).
You are more than welcome to PM for my email if you would like to chat.

By the way I got to visit your beautiful state a few times over the past 2 years and loved every minute of it. I was shocked at how many quilting stores are in the Salt Lake area too,

    Helen
