I agree with you, since I have allergies. Therefore, I always wash any new clothes, bedding, or towels that I buy. They all have some kind of finishing on them to keep them unwrinkled on display or in the package.

I wash all before I wear anything from any store .. As the starching or whatever its called makes me break out. So in the laundry it goes .. Same for towels, sheets etc..

I'm with BellaBoo. Chemicals, sizings fragrances all cause me skin problems; everything gets washed with "fragrance and dye Free" detergents and softeners or I pay the price.

Lots of time you can tell who has tried it on by the perfume residue--ugh!

WE used to have to wash new clothing to get the smell out!! luckily the smell did leave. Now a days, with the new cutting mats, that stinky smell is in to stay. Hmmm, new clothes, I can't remember if I wash them. most likely not until I've worn them. maybe I should rethink that!!

I have never washed anything new except sheets. I do not like the feel of new sheets. We have been lucky or blessed that we are not allergic to anything. I wash stuff I get from GW or at garage sales because many times they have been improperly stored or left out. I do wash baby quilts before I give them to the parents but I do not wash quilts for adults. I used to dry clean clothes before I wore them but it is ridiculous to change one chemical for another. Now, I don't do that. I buy sealed underwear and will not purchase any item with makeup or soil on it. It used to be that women would take a makeup mask to the dressing room and try to keep their make up off the clothes. Now, with this new "entitled" society, it is okay to trash other people's property with impunity. Sad.

bearisgray, you are a wise woman. On the subject of used clothing. I have found some of the most wonderful buys at Goodwill, name brands that I wouldn't pay for at a department store. My sister thinks that this is awful, I love her dearly; but I don't understand her on this one.

You're right - I wash everything! Some of the older ladies in my quilt group do not wash any of the fabrics - old from yard sales or new - but I do.

I wash everything,
I have allergies.

Why do you think Good Will emplyees wear masks.

GW years ago had to wash before selling, how they just hang them.
