We never see ourselves as old as others, especially if we are very mobile and agile for our age. My mom was 88 years young yesterday.

My Mom is a Joy to Love. She is the star around which our family orbits. She is only 4'11" tall and can't believe she isn't taller. She told me recently that she was sure she was five feet. Even her Great great grandchildren know they can talk to Grandma and they will be listened to with love and acceptance no matter what their issue in life is at any moment. Her strength of will to live was proven when she was 75 and she had a massive heart attack followed by open heart surgery. She survived that with hardly a blink of an eye. He doctor told her that she would not be allowed to climb trees any longer though. The only thing she fusses about is that everyone wants to take care of her when she can take care of herself. We are truly blessed she is still with us. She lives alone with a Comfort Keeper device for emergencies. One of my younger brothers lives close by and checks in on her a few times everyday. I hope I can do as well as she is doing.

Wonderful! Thanks for sharing! She is one smart cookie to stop driving and let others help with that.

When my Grandmother moved in to assisted living at age 100+ she would tell me about the other people that lived there also. I would chuckle to myself when she would describe some one as "elderly" and they were in there 80's!

What a blessing to have your Mother for that much time. Enjoy every minute you have with her and make all the memories you can. You will truly miss her when she is gone. Merry Christmas to you and yours

Here's a smile maker: a church couple went to Disney World and took her 100+ year old mother!!! Evidently there are motorized carts there to drive around if you're handicapped. I given them a lot of credit for going.

My mother is 98 now and was like that when she was about 90. Things started going downhill when she was 92 and had a hip replacement and I watched her take her first steps after the replacement! I had a knee replacement two years later and I'll tell you, when they first stood me up and made me walk I kept telling myself if she could go through a hip replacement at 92 I could go through a knee replacement at 56! She's in assisted living and talks about how she's the third oldest there, but the other people aren't in good shape like she is! She's in a walker, on oxygen for emphysema and has only 15" of her colon due to colon cancer!
