We have a herd of 8-10 does who visit the barn, graze in the pasture, every late afternoon, the horses love to watch them!
10-9-10 I did manage to hit my first deer ever, a 200lb. 10 point buck, going 55 down a highway in the dark, needless to say, I had to call the sheriff's office, the poor boy had to be euthanized. The Deputy was shaking his head, as he asked me "If I knew how long he had been looking for one of these? and I go and find it in the middle of a highway'. I told him "I much rather he had found him"
I was being rather proud of myself, living in Iowa, in the country, all these years and never hitting a deer.
I love wildlife(excludes:ticks, mosquitos, no-see-ums, and snakes) and nature and the out-of -doors, yet have zero desire to go camping. Go figure.

We definitely have a deer problem here too. If you water with blood meal in the spring, they are kept away for the whole of the summer. Good luck.

Try stringing taut VCR tapes around the perimeter of the fence. ME News says that the tapes hum in the breeze and that keeps the deer away. Don't know about that as deer are not a problem with me.

One trick I have heard to keep deer from plants, bushes etc, is to run fishing line on posts chest high to the deer, they cannot see it but works to keep them away since they do not know what is stoping them. A friend of a friend used it on newly planted trees and bushes in OR and it worked. It was his 3rd time of planing trees and was determined to beat the deer at their game.
