How exciting! it is a handsome bird. I was enjoying all the bats flitting around our backyard last night at twilight. There is a pond on the golf course behind our house, so it is good to see the bats feeding.

Very cool, we have all kinds of birds, but have never had one like this land anywhere close. And yes, it would make a great quilt!

Beautiful! We have several red tail hawks that circle quite a bit. I love seeing them but the chickens are none too thrilled.

Thanks for sharing the picture. My next door neighbor, another quilter, is also past president of Audubon. I printed the picture out and she......now I can't remember.... I think what you thought Cooper's hawk. We also have them here in Indiana and they usually snatch morning doves which are plentiful and easy to catch.

We have a young hawk that frequents our front yard, he chases his prey into our front window and stuns them, then finishes them off. He's done this about 50 times this summer.
