Passports

They are talking about closing government officers that process passports. My family needs passports to go to a wedding next Sept. in Canada. Anyone know what's going on and how long it would last. It's like the government won't let us leave the country.

I applied for my passport a couple of years ago and it took 9 days to get it. Every person has to go thru a check with Homeland Security. It gives the option to pay a fee to expidite it (I did not). I think it cost me around $120.00. Also there is a key tag that is cheaper to buy if you are only going to be going to countries that border the US. (Savings of about $40.) Be sure and tell whom ever does the photos that they are used for passports. When you send the money in with the pics, they return with passport and extra photos. They are good for 10 years. If lost be sure and notify homeland security in your area.

The news tonight is talking about the service men not getting paid...as well as the offices the issue the passports. If they do close...I don't think it will be too long. Check with the offices before they close.

The Department of State had made the decision that passports can't be issued at county clerk offices that issue birth certificates. They say that it is a security risk. Contact your local post office. Many of them can do your passports.

the news is "they". and most offices will still be open. this is only children in government fighting each other. anyway. it's not supposed to last long. it's happened before, this closing of government. I didn't even notice, i must admit.
perhaps they should get their passports now. two more days to go!!

When I went to Canada some years ago, we had the choice of a certified birth certificate or a pass port.
Since I was born at home it took a long time for the state of WV to find mine!! The doctor didn't bother registering births, his nurse cleaned out his medical bag every year or so and registered them herself!!!
