in the summer time here in TEXAS we tend to get quitea bit of bats they especially like to live under the freeways , and at the parks.quite a few people have died from bat bites. which is why the city starts to cage up under the freeways and under the ports at the park .it's really scarey some times.but what can you do.were just careful.were all so told to report any bat activity to the police or the city.

Bats facinate me! They are the only true flying mammal.. We have the little browns flying around our place in the summer and I love watching them. I don't know where they live around here but they sure do like OUR mosquitoes! Funny thing about the government and the west nile virus. They tell everyone to empty any little thing that can breed mosquitoes and then they make all these artifical ponds for the run off water from all the housing developements!!! Maybe they like to keep all the squiters for themselves, huh?? :?:

we too get the occasional bat and one we found caught on the barb wire on our fence and gently pried him loose..he was very quiet and had a tear in his wing so put him in a little cage that we kept for our pet rats when we had them. When we got up in the morning to find him flying around in the house and had to get a tea towel and throw it over him to be able to catch him so we could let him out!

I was watching a Miami Animal Police earlier tonight on the animal channel. It was from 2004, but they had a segment about rescuing 2 brown bats from inside a home. They mentioned about their droppings having a high level of ammonia in them. They took them outside behind a building and let them loose.
I have read several articles about bats being one of the best things to use to get rid of mosquitoes. You might want to build a bat house for them.

I still remember about 8 years or so ago I had decorated our carport for Halloween and had the spiderweb stuff up and had the little rubber spiders and stuff in it. A neighbor was over and asked what was in my spiderwebs. Rubber spiders I told him. No, that isn't a rubber spider, it was a small bat, got itself stuck. My daughter would not come out of the house until it was let loose. Wish we would have gotten a picture of it.
