First one was a Wolverine, purchased in 1966, and moved 4 times. It gave up in 2014. 48 years!! I replaced with a Kenmore and so far it does what it needs to do and seems to use less salt. My skin can't handle the chlorine in city water so softening is a must. City?? Two blocks from the Manistee Nat'l forest with bears and coyotes occasionally visiting, but we are on the city system. Culligan is in the area, but for me, price was a factor.

We had a Culligan when we moved into our home everytime we went on vacation I would have to buy new underclothes because they were yellow. I did find a product called yellow out to get the iron out of our cloths.
We bought a Kinetico which has two bottles when one needs to recycle the other one takes over. I was washing my white cloths as the last load in the Culligan and was washing them in unsoftened water. With the Kulligan my water is always soft. No more yellow clothing. This to me was worth the extra cost.
