I'm with Jingle---we have one and disconnected it because of salt concerns.

It depends on how hard your water is. Very hard water will release a greater amount of salt. Generally an 8 oz glass of softened water will have about 12 mg sodium, very low sodium. You can just soften the hot water. Or get a reverse osmosis water softener. Or drink bottled water.
