My DD was given a gift of a pleather jacket some years ago and it smelled. I washed it in the washer with hot water and bleach even though the tag said not to. LOL. It took the smell out and looked liked new coming out of the dryer.

I bought a pleather chair & ottoman at Home Goods that was perfect for my family room. I had help getting it into my SUV, brought it home & drug it into the house by myself only to find that it stunk! You could smell it all over the house! A real strong plastic smell. That night my DH put it in the garage & it stunk that up too! We put it back in the car & left it in there with the windows down while at church then returned it. I understand what you are going through- such a strong smell!

I bought a lined cloth purse online that turned up having that problem, so I hung it out in the sun, hoping a couple of days would help it. Had to leave it there for a full month, but the smell finally went away, and I've been using that purse for about 5 years now!
