Mailing first class after the first ounce has increased from 17 cents to 20 cents per additional ounce. Sending an envelope of scraps that is over 1/4 " thick takes an extra 44 cent (or 'forever') stamp for the first ounce, also.
Of course, they also delayed the due date for income taxes until the first business day on which the higher rate applied!

Postage just went up in the UK also. I went to the local Post Office to send a fabric birthday card to my friend and complained about the price. I was told that I should do what the person behind the counter does - send a free e-card on the computer. He then went on to tell me that tthe reason that postage had risen was because less and less people were sending letters etc. Work that one out.

Too bad as I'd rather send and receive letters!

I know, I sent out swap blocks yesterday and nearly fainted...34 blocks with only going to Canada and one that was over 1oz and it cost $32.60! One block per envelope...that is a lot of money!

boxes are great IF you have a scale and know that you are mailing more than 13oz for the flat rate envelope and then more than 2 pounds for a flat rate med box...anything in between 1-2# is actually cheaper to send reg. priority!

and when you are only sending 1 swap block, boxes are out!

I ship daily as part of my business, so I know all the shipping stuff....

Just to be clear, the cost of a regular envelope (with a letter or card inside) did NOT go up in price this year.

It only went up if you need more than the first 44 cents (for over one ounce).
