My dh doesn't think quilting is a good hobby, "it does nothing to improve your mind. All you do is sew pieces of fabric together." I told him "Ok, you can go back up stairs now and don't come back. this is my hobby and I don't need to improve my mind-go away." I had gotten into crumb blocks for awhile and I was making 100's of them. He didn't appreciate them at all.

Now, we agree to disagree and to keep his mouth shut. He did buy me a Viking DSE a few years ago out of the blue so I'll forgive his miss-spoken words.

I think sewing is highly under-rated as an artistic expression, hobby and stress-relieving activity for everyone.

I have a keeper too, he praises me with each quilt that I finish. Had him for 44 yrs. will keep him that much longer or longer.

Must be these wonderful Oklahoma guys. My hubby is also great with my passion for quilting. Loves to go to the quilt shops with me and is always buying kits for me! He says he meets the nicest people in quilt shops. He bought me the Janome 6600 for Christmas when they first came out! I am keeping him too!

When I first started quilting I picked up every old quilt magazine I could find. One of them from the 80's had an article about an award winning quilter in Kansas or Nebraska (senior moment). He was in his 80's and had been quilting since the 30's. Turned out he was trained as an engineer (like John Flynn). His wife had made a quilt and he informed her that the points weren't perfectly matched. She replied (paraphrased) "If you think you can do better, go for it." He won the state fair blue ribbons several times for his quilts over the years.

Mine is like yours .He'll cook and do all the house chores while I sew or what ever .And I like that deal too !!
he'll even take me to shops and wait for me . I wouldn't trade him in .

My husband several years ago decided that he wanted to quilt. So we got him a sewing machine and some of the tools. He made a wall hanging and a single bed quilt. It turned out great.

As some one said in this thread watch out when you do that. He is terrible for pointing out that someone seams don't match. That would be okay if he would keep his voice down. He is proud of my quilting. Not so happy that I have spent 4500 on 3 sewing machines and 1 frame in the last 4 years. But he never stops me from buying. So I guess I will keep him.
