'My head lights reflect off of the neighbors house across the street so I know if that goes out. '
Please don't do this--use your own garage door or house to check this if you must ! Very rude to wake someone like this-may be an elderly person, small child, or baby !
Off my soapbox !

My car is always outdoors, no garage. I check the fluids routinely as well as the tires. I take it in once a year for a check-up and my mechanic checks everything out and lets me know what, if anything, needs to be done. The biggest problem for my car is "salt". The salt used in the winter is awful for the cars in Michigan. Rust, Rust and more Rust. Even with routine washing the car still suffers with rust after many years. My car is a 2002 Ford and is beginning to rust now. It only has 62000 miles on it and runs so well. Not bad for a car that is 17 years old.

It's possible she can't help this; she may need her lights on to navigate out of her driveway and street in the dark. We have a house at the end of our street that gets everyone's lights as they enter the street. There's nothing anyone can do, it has to do with the way the houses are situated.

this is why I have a husband - and he is rather anal about that kind of stuff. It's probably one reason we routeinly get around 200,000 miles out of a car and it still is very nice. DH was an auto mechanic for many years, and has a shop full of tools to prove it. He also makes sure the insurance cards and other required info is in each vehicle.
When I first moved to SD and he still lived in WI, I had to check my own oil. He even walked me through doing an oil change once.
I do find it interesting that I try to always check for my cell phone- something I didn't even have 20 years ago! Now I hate going anywhere without it.

My headlights reflect off neighbors garage door as theirs do mine. Why assume the worst before finding out fact. Besides you saying not do this will have the driver driving without lights on. Against the law in most places. That's why black out curtains are made for those sensitive to light.
