18" doll clothes closet/armoire
3 Attachment(s)
Got a doll for little granddaughter. I am hoping to make clothes and such for it for her Christmas gift this year. I decided I needed a place to put all these clothes I WILL be making LOL. So after looking on things to purchase (please, it's a doll), we made this!! I saw a 2 shelf 32X32 bookcase at Staples, on sale $24.99. Lowered the shelf and added a rod to hang up clothes (wooden shower rod holders). Put shoe boxes on bottom to hold undies and little things (not perfect just what I had on hand, need to keep looking). TA-DA!!

So cute! It's a terrific idea! Thanks for sharing with us! I need to do something like this as well.
Wow! That closet is fit for a diva. What a wonderful idea.
Great idea !
Thanks for sharing such a great idea!
Stunning! I wish my girls had a grandma like that. Can't wait till you post all the beautiful clothes you will sew.
Great idea - I also make clothes for my granddaughters's 18" dolls. I purchase the patterns when they go on sale for a dollar each. This Christmas I made dresses for the GD's and then made matching dresses for their dolls. They also got aprons, hot pads and chef's hats, and they each got a baseball shirt and pants, along with a pair of tights, a leotard and matching tutu. (all for the dolls). Last year I had my son build the girls beside tables that can hold the dolls and hanging clothes on one side and has 3 shelves on the other side. It's always nice to have a handy person in the family!

That is adorable!

That is so cute. Great idea!! Where do you get the hangers?
There are actually several places to get the coat hangers but here is where I got them.

Great idea!!! I have made enough American Girl doll clothes this year to fill it up! They are so much fun to make and way easier than Barbie clothes.
love this idea....great job!
That is much nicer than the ones I've seen commercially. Great idea and have fun filling it up.
looks great to me. You did a great job.
I KNOW what you mean about the price of a certain kind of dolls accessories! We too have a granddaughter with one of those dolls. I've made some clothes for the doll and matching purse for the granddaughter. The bookcase closet is a wonderful idea. Watch out, you may end up making them for others - - starting you own cottage industry!

I bought one at Target this Christmas when they were on sale. Still more expensive then yours and doesn't hold nearly as many clothes. I am going to make one of those for my granddaughter. They look easy. Especially if you can get the lumber place to cut the rod.
Oh, and I love the source for doll hangers. Especially the ones with clips.
Where on earth did you find those little cloths hangers????
That will be so special to her. Love to see the clothes you make.
That is fantastic. I bookmarked.
What a brilliant idea, I'll have to remember this when our DGD gets old enough for dressing and undressing her dolls. Right now she's more interested in being a princess - so her other DGF made her a special chest for all her Princess items.

Beautiful! We got 2 of our granddaughters AG dolls for their Bdays this year and for Christmas we got them trunks from Joann's online. I would have made them something like yours but they have to share their are 3 of them in 1 bedroom so not only do they not have room to leave it out they need to protect their things from their baby brother. I made them several outfits, found accessories on ABC distributing and used Joann's coupons to buy more outfits at a good price. I plan on making more this year. My husband said I was having so much fun that I needed a doll too so he got me 1 for Christmas. I have decided to have a year of AG doll activities with the girls. For February we had a tea party with a couple of little firends and their dolls and I helped the kiddos make doll shoes and necklaces. We had lots of fun. We'll do a different craft each month.

what a great idea. i bought a granddaughter two American Girl dolls. I noticed when i was visiting the other day, that doll and doll clothes were scattered all over the floor. Hmm, perhaps one of these is in order? Though i wonder if that particular child would put things away even if she had space to do so.LOL

This is wonderful!! Just what I need for my granddaughter. Have already made some clothes and she needs somewhere to put them. I'll have to check out Staples. TFS.
WOW I love it.
Wonderful idea. What a marvelous Christmas this will be for your granddaughter! Please keep sharing what you add to it.

What a great idea--and much larger than the one I paid $149 for. Sure wish I'd seen this a few months ago!
Very clever! It's funny, but it might also work for human baby clothes, if you're tight for space.
did you make the little boots? and if so where did you get that pattern?
LOVE IT!..... Where did you find the hangers?

http://www.onlyhangers.com/content/c...p?P=31&PID=298 for the hangers, and google American Doll clothes patterns for literally hundreds of patterns, some free, some not. Also eBay is a good source for shoes and boots but you can get patterns for them too!

How clever ~ really neat !
