Congratulations!!

It will be 4 years next July for us...are we still newlyweds? lol

wvdek 12-23-2009 12:36 AM

We were married 35 years this past Nov.

Congrats to all!

MissTreated 12-23-2009 12:44 AM

26 on the 31st, and it only feels like 56! :)

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 12-23-2009 01:13 AM

Ours will be 19 years on July 4. Some days I can't believe it's been 19 years! I remember when my parents were married 19 years!!

I still like him at least 95 percent of the time and we are both too lazy to pack so we'll be together for a long time. :)

barnbum 12-23-2009 02:31 AM

Wow!! There are a LOT of happily married quilters on here--and the years--Wow!! Very impressive!! I love reading the replies--the contentment rings out loud and clear.

I have so many questions I want to ask--like what was the topic that made you argue the most? (ours was HIS parents! But all is fine now.) Or what got you through the tough times? (commitment) Or how you met (long story here)?

prairiegirl 12-23-2009 03:33 AM

barnbum, Happy Anniversary. Congratulations on 25 years and sending prayers for many more together.

On December 1st, we celebrated 30 years together. Thinking about it that morning took my breath away. I sat in amazement that so many wonderful years spent together and so many more to come for us. Yes, I love my best friend more each day.

bearpaw 12-23-2009 04:52 AM

Happy Anniversary Karla (and DH)!! :-D :-D

We've been married for 7 years, together for 21. Started dating when I was 19.

Bevanger 12-23-2009 05:00 AM

congrats. ours is 28 yrs

grammy Dwynn 12-23-2009 05:47 AM

Ours last June was 38 years.

Some days are <<<grrr>>> others are :). That's part of having the good and the bad. They are not perfect. ......
.. oh yeah, neither are we!

janRN 12-23-2009 05:47 AM

Wow. I had to stop and think--it will be 40yrs in March. We've been together since we were 16. OMG am I old!!! I think I'll keep him.
Of course we've argued-mostly about money and in-laws when younger. Now nothing is that earthshattering to waste time arguing. Some of my friends have lost husbands-death and of course one to the stereotypical "younger woman" LOL. I guess we either appreciate one another more or take each other for granted. Hmm-lots to think about here.
Congrats to all who have made such committments and that should be proof to all you newbies (at marriage) that it can last. This was a fun and inspiring thread!!

watterstide 12-23-2009 06:05 AM

Will be 30 years next august 22nd. Second marriage.

Piedmont Quilter 12-23-2009 06:08 AM

Happy 25th Karla! Hope you had a GREAT day yesterday. So far I've been married 17.5 years to the same wonderful man. Looking forward to getting to our 25th too!!

Busy Bee 12-23-2009 06:13 AM

I will be celebrating my 20th on May 25, 2010. Looking forward to it.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 12-23-2009 07:19 AM

Karla,

Our biggest agruments are about his parents, too! Those people......... grrrrrrrrrrr.

As for how we met, I was the secretary in a large Engineering Department. He was one of the Engineers. How's that for stereotypical??

We planned our entire wedding on 1-800-WEDDING for $800 including plane tickets to Vegas. We got married in the Graceland chapel with a fake Elvis singing. The lady getting married in front of us popped the seams on her strapless dress and we saw PLENTY of her.

The whole thing was just delightfully tacky and we laughed ourselves silly.

Lisa

mytwopals 12-23-2009 08:19 AM

I made it all the way to 10 years, the second time around. And since we divorced 7 years ago, it'll never get any higher than that.

CrystalKicks 12-23-2009 08:31 AM

Still young here...7 years married this June!! I think we are hitting that itch...but we'll make it through, my grandparents made it 53 years before he passed away earlier this year. I hope to make it that far with my dh!! Love him to much to let him go!!

mic-pa 12-23-2009 09:26 AM

This is a wonderful bit of information and you all are to be congratualated. I think I am the oldest married here, as we just had our 53rd anniversary in Nov. Yes, there were rough spots as everyone has but overall its been a great ride. We only knew each other 8 months prior to marriage. Then we eloped. My mother was not pleased.

The Babe 12-23-2009 09:32 AM

On 2-12-2010 we will have been married 55 years. Hard to believe it has been that long. My parents had been married 76 years in July of this year and then my daddy passed away in October. Mother is 94 and doing well. I remember when I ordered a flower arrangement for their 75th wedding anniversary the florist said he had been in business a long time but had never before been asked to do an arrangement for a 75th wedding anniversary.

mary quite contrary 12-23-2009 09:47 AM

Congratulations!!!

It's been 34 for us. We too were HS sweethearts. I've been told he's a saint to put up with me and that was a lot of years ago.

joeyoz 12-23-2009 09:48 AM

On the 18th is was 27 years for me and my honey.

Jim's Gem 12-23-2009 10:02 AM

We were High School Sweethearts too!! Met in the youth group at church. He's 2 years older than I.
I think most of our arguments were probably money and kids. He served 20 years in the Navy and we went through 6 6 month deployments and many many months of training where he was gone for 1 - 4 months and I was here raising the kids on my own, a lot! I made it a priority to always follow him when he was transferred and tried to go to some of the training detachments and such so we could sort of limit the time apart. We watched most of our fellow military members divorce. He is a sweetheart and I love him dearly.

granny216 12-23-2009 10:11 AM

It will 57 years in October...it has been great. Our kids are treasures and now that we are older the roles are sort of reversed.

nativetexan 12-23-2009 12:08 PM

Oh this year was our 29th. My second marriage and last one. My hubby is 19 yrs older than me.

Jingle 12-23-2009 02:33 PM

Our 48th will be Dec. 30th. We were young and no one thought it would last. We were committed to each other and still are !!!

Boston1954 12-23-2009 02:34 PM

May 6th will be 15 for us. I did not get married until I was 41.

barnbum 12-23-2009 06:18 PM

I am loving these stories!! We should discuss marriage more often! There's a lot of wisdom out there! :-D Keep talking!

How about this: what advice would you give to a newly married couple? Oh--I'm going to start a new post for that one... too important to bury.

Rhonda 12-23-2009 06:28 PM

Learn to be a good listener!!!!! And communicate!

zennia 12-24-2009 04:36 AM

Wow there were alot of December weddingd here. I thought I was the only crazy one getting msrried in Dec. I was 47 years on the 22. Where has the time gone.
We only knew each other two month when we married so yes love at first sight does work and i would do it again in a heart beat.

barnbum 12-24-2009 05:18 AM

Wow--zennia--your day is the same as mine--but you've been there almost twice as many times!

Babs194068 12-24-2009 06:38 AM

I had 50 on December 19. Husband passed away on Monday the 21st. Mine was a spoiler also. My 50 years were not perfect but they sure were good. Enjoy you time with your husband.

barnbum 12-24-2009 06:51 AM

Oh gosh, Babs, I'm so sorry.

gail 12-24-2009 07:40 AM

Congrats on your anniversary. Mine was the 17th of this month and its been 38 years, alot longer than I was single! LOL.

mimi 12-24-2009 08:34 AM

Hi
My husband and I have been married 54 yrs last October. And yes there were times that I didn't think we would make it. Seems funny when you look back and what you thought was unsurmountable was nothing but bump in the road. It keeps getting better with each passing year.So if you might be having a problem hang in there because it will work itself out if you learn to give a little.

Dkm 12-24-2009 08:39 AM

We've been married 44 yrs. and he's still my best friend. Of course we all know it doesn't start out that way. Puppy love moves over for the everlasting love and commitment that requires a marriage to work. I think the first step in any marriage is the vows of till death do us part.

weezie 12-24-2009 08:40 AM

45 years, last July. It's hard to believe the 45 years has just zipped by so quickly. I don't know who the old lady is that looks back at me from my mirror. And yes, for some folks, there's ALWAYS something to argue about ... something old or something new, but never of any real importance.

showmequilter 12-24-2009 08:49 AM

mine will be 33 years this coming March.. 33 wonderful years i might add

Pats8e8 12-24-2009 08:53 AM

We hit 46 last June. And we are still in the first house we bought. Lived in a mobile the first few yrs. Will be in this house 43 yrs in Feb. We moved in on our sons 3rd BD so it is easy to remember.
