72 year old with a doll

2 Attachment(s)
(excuse the late night hairdo please)

This is doll number 131. A generous lady from the forum (you know who you are) recently gave me some Christmas style fabric, and I couldn't resist the soft red for the top. the velveteen for the shirt and the 'trims to decorate with. I also am attaching the nightgown as she flips her skirt to turn into a sleepy faced sweetie. She is 24 inches high. This is one of the dolls designed to go out free to children who have cancer or other devestating things going on in their life. They deserve the comfort of a doll to love them. I have never made a Christmas dress for the dolls before. I hope to make at least 3 more, in a more simple dress. The doils are always free, including postage.

The 72 year old doll maker is tired tonight, but finishing up this particular doll tonight was worth the extra time put into her. Maybe I'll put a Christmas Boy Doll together... somehow. It would light up my heart if there were little ones VERY sick at Christmas time that could get a doll. I gave away one to a 'woman child' yesterday dressed in green. It looked a combo of a 'lass in Green' or a Christmas color of doll. 7 are left on my couch waiting patiently for a home. I may have 3 going out over the next few days......I'm waiting for word on them.

Thanks so much for that high praise. I do hope the doll finds a child to love this Christmas. If not I will sit her aside for next year.

As usual Vickey, you outdid yourself again. You will make some children very happy for Christmas. I know it warms your heart to know they just love your dolls. You are such a special person to spend so much of your time doing things for others. God bless you and keep you active and sewing for a long long time.

wordpaintervs 11-25-2012 10:27 PM

Thanks dear Rosie. I appreciate what you said and that you took time to read my message and enjoy the pictures. Big God Bless's and buckets of hugs to you and yours.

Such a lovely doll I haven't seen these for years. I remember having a happy/sad one when I was little. Such a generous gift too.

she is so cute.

Lovely doll Vickey!
What kind of lace do you need? Does it have to be cotton? If not I do have white lace I can send to you.

CarolinePaj 11-26-2012 05:06 AM

Hi Vickey,

What a lovely thing you do. I know that the children that receive your lovely dolls will love and cherish them and that the dolls will bring much comfort at a time it is desperately needed.

Hugs

Caroline

I have watched your posts a couple of times and I'm always amazed how beautiful your dolls are.

Sometimes it seems it's so little we can do for others, but it's a big difference for them. Your loving hands bring warmth into a childs or adults heart.

In time of desperation you bring a shimmer of hope. You show that you care, that brings new strength.

Thank you so much for all the good things you do, I know your dolls are greatly appreciated.

May God bless you and your loved ones in many different ways,

Jingle 11-26-2012 06:54 AM

Your dolls are all very pretty, as usual. I'm sure they are well loved by all who get them. Such a wonderful thing you are doing.

Gorgeous! What a wonder use of your gift of talent given to these children. It must be a great feeling knowing you have made a child smile! God bless you and all you do!...

Thank god for people like you. I still hold onto the handmade items my son received in the NICU. Ladies knitted hats to fit micro preemies like my son. With all the wires and tubes, it was all he could "wear" for a long while.

wordpaintervs 11-26-2012 08:46 PM

Thanks to each and every one of you who took time to write me and talk to me about the dolls and the children. It does keep me encouraged and I really apprecite all you said. Tonight I finished a dress in something I call 'Lame' material (don't really know what it is...but I liked it.) It is thin and very sparkly looking. I thought it looked almost like a fairy princess would wear or Cinderella to a 'ball' .... so I turned it into something special for the upcoming Christmas season. It is silver colored. I put 3 bands of blue ribbon around the bottom, then tiny little roses were sewn in place (about twenty I think) with a thin light green ribbon to look sort of like a 'leaf'. I sewed a blue ribbon across the top of the bodice and trimmed the mop cap with green ribbon. Around the waist is a blue and white and green ribbon combination. Tomorrow when I get back from my Endoscopy and settled in, I will make the nightgown for the second part of the doll, the finish the stuffing, sew the mop caps on and make the two faces. This will be doll number 132. I'll try to get a picture sent out of it for those that want to look.

kathbug 11-27-2012 09:33 AM

She is adorable and any child would love her. I know how much it means to children with life threatening conditions. I have a granddaughter who is (thanks to God ) now 5 she was-diagnosed with Histiocytoses LCH. She has received many gifts from people who made blankets, hats, gave gifts when she was in the hospital during Christmas las year. She always love her gifts and I know that her mother and father and all of her family were very great full during such a stressful time. God bless you for your time, energy and kindness to stranges in need.

I so admire and have great respect for those who share with the less fortunate,...I think it is our way of showing thankfulness for being blessed with good health or wealth (I missed out on the 'wealth part!). I want so much to donate a little bit to your generousity. Wondered if perhaps you would let me machine embroider a few doll faces for you--to ease your burden a little. I'm gonna try to post pix..one face asleep, and awake. One kewpie face that I had a tho't you might pair with the Raggedy Ann..so there'd be "2 dolls in one". Please PM me so we can discuss it. God Bless your precious heart.

How generous you are! Your dolls are as sweet as you are!

FabricHeaven 11-27-2012 06:25 PM

Hello, I'm relatively new to the board and I just had to tell you what charming dolls you have made! What a thoughtful thing you are doing.

wordpaintervs 11-27-2012 06:37 PM

Thanks for the warm and appreciated replies. That is so sweet of you all. I am so glad you liked the doll. It keeps me encouraged to hear from you about them. God Bless all. I'm going to try to finish up doll 132 this evening if I can. Spent 8 hours out of town for a medical test today. (Test only took 5 minutes...upper Endoscopy and thank goodness, it turned out just fine) (3 hours each way with hubby driving) then a small bit of shopping. It took longer to register and wait to be taken into the 'short stay unit'...then for the test itself. YIKES It is 6:35 p.m. California time now. Thanks again to each of you. God Bless All. Vickey
