I'm 55, and I sure earned my gray hair, all of it!! My hair is just past waist length, but only half gray, haha!!!

My grandmother could barely work a remote control for the TV, nevermind telling it apart from the one for the VCR. I guess I automatically assume that older people can't be bothered to keep up with technology and I was pleasantly surprised to find how many people here are of that generation and just as capable as the rest, and with more experience on the subject at hand than I!

WE KNOW A LOT ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS THAT MIGHT AMAZE YOU.

Oh, you wanted a number: 51 and doing a slightly creaky happy dance.

Trust me, being a grandmother is super! Makes you wonder why you didn't have the grandkids first!

"never regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"

I'm thrilled to see so many appreciate the age they are. :-)

I'm 38.... knew it was 30 something, had to count to figure out the second digit! LOL

Granda 01-03-2010 02:46 PM

Age is only a number. My number is 65. I'm a grandmother, and maybe this year I'll be a great-grandmother, just waiting to hear.

sewmuchfun 01-03-2010 02:50 PM

I'M ONE DAY LATE ON THIS POST.I AM 60 YEARS OLD, BUT I HAVE ENJOYED EVERY YEAR OF MY LIFE. I HAVE A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR. EACH NEW YEAR IS LIKE GETTING A FRESH NEW START IN LIFE. HOPEFULY I WILL HAVE LEARNED FROM LAST YEARS MISTAKES. TO ME AGE IS JUST A NUMBER.

Barbm 01-03-2010 02:56 PM

I'm 50. Looking forward to next month when hubby turns 60 (the only time he's 10 years older) and I turn 51 at the end of the month. I love prime numbers, so I will love being 51.

(And where have those years gone- I swear I'm still 30!)

And looking forward to May when my baby sister turns 50. I like the sympathy card idea- it's right up her alley.

nope, I'm proud to be kicking. Let the 20's and 30's set, worry about getting older. I'm too tired, lol!

butterflywing 01-03-2010 04:52 PM

is it true what they say about white mice?

ginnie6 01-03-2010 05:02 PM

I'll be 45 next month. And I've earned every single gray hair I have....and there are quite a few!

mic-pa 01-03-2010 05:17 PM

I just turned 74 two months ago and am waiting for my hair to turn grey. Its almost embarrassing to see my three daughters with grey hair and mine is still dk brown. Why??? I don;t have a clue except my mom's hair did not turn grey until late 70's. I am in good health and my life is busy with grands and two great grands.

Lol - guess which generation were young when home computers came to be? Guess which generation played with them, programmed them and improved them? Who were in their 20's & 30's when VCR's were invented?

I got my first PC over 25+ years ago and have used one almost daily ever since. I introduced computers & the internet to my kids, who are now older than you are.

But then again.....I still mess up on that damm mobile phone!

Cheers & hugs

I am going to be 45 March 3. I think. Yeah. I really do have to think about it, because I am still trying to decide what I will be when I grow up!

Yep. I started showing my best friend this fall, we've done a few projects. I'm also showing my mother how to piece and quilt. I didn't learn to quilt from my mother, but it's fun to spend time with her showing her how to do these things :)

I had a commodore 64 when I was a kid, I think those were among the first computers... didn't do much 'work', was mostly games and stuff.
Oh, we also had an IBM that had a black screen with green text, lol!

joy 01-03-2010 05:29 PM

I love all of this... please to see another in her 70's... there must be others too !!!

nursie76 01-03-2010 05:43 PM

Blockhead, Good Point!!!!!!

We got our first PC about 28 years ago I think. A Radio Shack TRS-80 (also called a "trash 80") Our son was about 13 and I remember having to go in and wake him up one night because we didn't know to get out of a doggone program so we could shut the blasted thing off!!!

Since then, I 've been to back to college, first AD, then BS, finally Masters so I have spent the last 8 years with a laptop in my lap. Now I have an I-Phone which keeps me internet connected all the time. I am on the road a lot and it really helps....Oh did I mention my hubby got me a netbook for Christmas to use with my embroidery machine and EQ6???

Yep, you are right...I guess it isn't so surprising that those of us in our 50's can be computer/technology savvy...hadn't thought of it that way.

quiltnut4ever 01-03-2010 05:48 PM

45 and loving it!

mary quite contrary 01-03-2010 05:56 PM

53. My mother just had her 90th birthday. She is always on the internet. She lived with us for a short time then when she moved back to her own apartment she complained how slow her computer was without the DSL.

mountain-moma 01-03-2010 06:02 PM

52 and having a blast with my GD when old man arthur leaves me alone

joyplace 01-03-2010 06:04 PM

Not embarassed at all. I'm 76 and yes I do have lots of grey hair.....

amma 01-03-2010 11:36 PM

51 and going strong :D:D:D

martha jo 01-04-2010 06:18 AM

I envy you young ones the computer knowledge. It is such a struggle for me. Of course, they didn't have TV until just before I graduated high school. It is a long way from a radio knob to a computer.

Piedmont Quilter 01-04-2010 06:58 AM

Will hit the big 50 in August & still raising my kids. Oldest (DS) will be 14 in February and DD will be 11 7 days later (still in February) Yes, I started a little late in life!!

:::nervously clears throat::: I know, I'm being such a prig about this, but...
51 is not a prime number. A prime number is one that can only be divided by 1 and itself. 51 can be divided by 17 or by 3 as well. ( 17 x 3 = 51.)

Boston1954 01-04-2010 07:30 AM

With a handle that gives the year I was born, I would say no.

I grant you, Baren*, those of us in our 50s and above didn't grow up with home computers.

Actually, they did whatever you wanted them to do. The difference is that back then, there wasn't much pre-packaged software other than games. Users were pretty much expected to program their own applications, not something most people took to. And the graphics and the Internet weren't as sophisticated - but both existed.

I would say PCs have been in most people's homes for 15 - 20 years now. Granted, my parents' generation (70s+) has more trouble with them than mine, but there are people of all ages that are savvy and others of all ages that use them without understanding them.

What's funny is that I didn't get my first PC until I was 34. But I'd learned about them back in 1980, when you had to maintain your computer yourself and program any apps you wanted (except for games and word processing - and the first computer spreadsheet had just been invented). When I got mine in 1994, I knew you could buy more apps, but I had no idea most people no longer maintained their own systems, so I set out to learn to do my own upgrades and installs and troubleshooting. It changed my life, because I ended up working in IT (not doing maintenance, though).

Why worry about your age? You have two choices: get older or die. I'm pretty much voting for the get older choice! :D
