Anybody using the Walmart Savings Catcher App?

I just installed it on my phone. I shop at Walmart A LOT, so I thought I would try it. I just scanned my first receipt this morning. I don't expect to find much. I know the prices at Walmart are lower than my regular grocery store, so I know I'm saving money when I do shop at Walmart, but there are some things I buy that are not available at Walmart, like my cat litter.

alleyoop1 10-03-2014 04:27 AM

I've been entering my receipts for about 2 weeks.

moonrise 10-03-2014 04:36 AM

I haven't tried the app, but I've been using their website to enter my receipts for several weeks now. My balance is $33-something already.

Quilty-Louise 10-03-2014 04:55 AM

I have been using it for just over a month.

My balance is at $5.33 so far.

dd 10-03-2014 05:19 AM

I didn't know you could do it online. Thought you had to have the app. I just signed up and entered my receipt. Said it will take a couple days for the results.

Jingle 10-03-2014 05:35 AM

Don't have a phone like that. I give my granddaughter my receipts, don't know if she has got anything yet. I mainly buy just normal stuff and they have adjusted their prices. I think someone 'shops around to make sure their prices all about the norm.

quiltin-nannie 10-03-2014 05:37 AM

Thanks for the reminder! I have been meaning to do this. And wouldn't you know, I can't find my $191 receipt! I did find one for $80 though, so we'll see what happens...it's scanning now.

Quilty-Louise 10-03-2014 10:18 AM

I just received another $2.34

That bring my total to $7.81.

It DOES take about 3 days (or more) to complete.

TexasSunshine 10-03-2014 07:14 PM

Where do you sign up on the website?

I'm at $14.43 in 3 weeks! love this program from Walmart!

Geri B 10-04-2014 03:18 AM

I have no idea what this is about....and I do shop at Walmart.......not many other choices unless I want to drive at least 15 miles in any direction!

ranbro 10-04-2014 03:31 AM

I do not shop walmart-they have put too many mom & pop shops out of business. They also keep they wages low and do not treat their employes at all well. I prefer to shop at the fabric shops and local grocery shops and give them my business.

My daughter down loaded it and saved a little over 10.00 but she never did get them to let her actually use the 10.00 off. Hers was rip off if you ask me, Just my 2 cents worth. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVESES

IQuiltnFL 10-04-2014 04:24 AM

I started using it about a month ago. My goal is to build up the "savings" until it's big enough for a "free" grocery trip. I'm on my way with $22 accrued. Every receipt gets me something back. 😁. By the way, you get the amount saved in a Walmart gift card when you ask them to give it to you...how cool is that

quiltin-nannie 10-04-2014 04:38 AM

I got back $2.31 and just entered it yesterday! This should be good for saving some money!

dd 10-04-2014 04:59 AM

Just got an email. I got $3.08. Not really understanding the Blue Bird option though.

NikkiLu 10-04-2014 05:19 AM

Thank you so much for this information. I have seen commercials on the TV but we don't have a "smart phone" - just a dumb phone - so did not think that we could do this. Hope to save a few dollars a month! Every little bit helps.

Barbara Antman 10-04-2014 05:58 AM

I had been scanning my receipts also. Unfortunately I decided to collect them and scan them about once a month instead of here and there. Well, be aware if the receipt is over a week old, they do not count!
Probably not a big loss, but still a loss. Wish I would have known.

pojo 10-04-2014 06:10 AM

I signed up today on the computer.
Thank you.

AZ Jane 10-04-2014 06:51 AM

Wal-Marts is my huby's favorite to shop. He usually goes alone, last month saved over $15!!

Oistin 10-04-2014 07:43 AM

I wish people would answer the questions proposed on this forum instead of running off at the mouth at what the big box stores do . Low wages etc. if you have never run a big business before you won't know the ins and out . Sometimes I wish they would shut down and then see how many people would be out of a job. Those same mom and pop stores charged high prices because they could and those around them had no choice . The media love to rile up the people . Nobody is forcing people to work there . Walmart I see is about the only one that hires special needs adults as greeters and sometimes cashiers. Many are long-term employees .

Blue bird option

As I understand it and have done it, you sign up for a Blue bird card by American Express. This is free. You have many options that this card can be used for besides the walmart savings catcher but that is all I intend to use it for at this time. Anyway, you sign up, they mail you the card, you register it and then you redeem your savings catcher money to your Bluebird account. The best thing is that until sometime in early 2015 they double the amount you save. Then you can use your Bluebird card for payment at Walmart for up to the amount that you have on it. Works for me!

Prism99 10-04-2014 10:05 AM

I checked out the app on my smartphone, and there was quite a range of reviews about it -- including glitches with being able to enter receipts (lots of ineligible receipts with no reason given) and glitches with being able to actually use the money. Those who were glitch-free loved it, but others were disappointed. I think receipts need to be entered within a week of purchase.

gramma nancy 10-04-2014 10:27 AM

Thanks so much for this thread. I had never heard of Bluebird or Savings Catcher but after reading this, I am registered for both. I shop at WM often since it is about the only thing within reasonable driving distance (about 12 miles.) I will love getting some money back -- and especially love that I can double it by having it put on a Bluebird card.

ManiacQuilter2 10-04-2014 10:36 AM

I don't have a smart phone so I don't think it will work for me. I call my phone DUMB DUMB as in the movie Night at the Museum. It is just a standard flip phone.

You can do it on a computer; you don't have to have a smart phone. Check out https://savingscatcher.walmart.com/

sewplease 10-04-2014 01:42 PM

Thanks for posting this. I just signed up for savings catcher and a bluebird card.

LOL You are funny. I'm going to tell my DH this name for his flip phone which he refuses to give up or upgrade. He'll laugh, too.

suern3 10-04-2014 02:07 PM

Woops, forgot to answer the original question. Yes we use the Walmart app, actually our DD who lives with us along with her two sons, does it for us. It does seem to be counting up. Every little be counts, I think and we'll just let her use the savings anyway. My DH does most of our grocery shopping and often goes to the nearby Walmart.

Caswews 10-04-2014 07:50 PM

Yeppers I use it and have almost 10.00 for an ecard .. I will probably wait till its 20.00 in savings. I use coupons and double coupons (when the stores allow it-CIty Market usually does !).

wanda lou 10-05-2014 04:16 AM

YES YES YES... I am up to 84.00... yippee saving it up to use at Christmas.
Remember if you use the bluebird option... (it doubles , plus some)

Geri B 10-05-2014 07:21 AM

Someone said ' offered by American express'. Does that mean must have an Amex card to be eligible?

bljackson58 10-05-2014 07:57 AM

I didn't know anything about it. I signed up, and when I went to enter the receipt#, the Savings Catcher info was at the bottom of the receipt. You do not have to have a Smart Phone to take advantage. You can sign up online. I'm not sure when I go to redeem it, if I can print out a coupon of some sort.

carolaug 10-05-2014 09:46 AM

I saw this post...thanks...I downloaded on my laptop and also my Iphone. Went shopping yesterday ad scanned the recpt...still waiting for the savings, they process it for 72 hours. Thanks again!!!!

jeanne49 10-05-2014 09:50 AM

I've only scanned 4 receipts, so haven't saved anything, but the 4th one is still processing.

judijade 10-05-2014 10:18 AM

I'm over 35 dollars and i price match. wow what a super thing this is working out for me.

Quilty-Louise 10-05-2014 10:21 AM

I am hoping to get enough to buy stuff for my grand baby due
in April 2015.

No. You need to set up a Walmart account online. That's the only requirement and pretty easy to do. I did this years ago, so I could buy Walmart online items. It's like signing up for any company online; they take your information and you establish a username and password. Once you have done that and started entering your receipts (cannot be more than 7 days old), the saver thing is activated.

To redeem your savings, you have 2 different choices.

(1) You can sign up for the Amex "Bluebird Card". This is basically a card that you can load money onto (like a prepaid credit card). You can spend only what has been loaded onto the card. The good thing about this option is that you can load your card from your computer at home, then just carry the card with you to pay for purchases (same way you would use a gift card to pay for part of your purchase). Another good thing is if you sign up for this card through the Walmart savers website, Amex will double your rewards until about the middle of February. I almost signed up for this, but after reading how you give them permission to share your information with tons of advertisers indefinitely (especially your email address), I decided it's not worth it to me. Read the terms of the card carefully before deciding to get it. If you do a lot of shopping at Walmart, plan to do a lot of Christmas shopping there, and do not mind being added to a lot of advertising lists, this could be worth doing for you.

(2) The other option is to simply print out a coupon at home when you are ready to redeem. Take this with you to Walmart and hand it to the cashier when you check out. This again acts like a gift card, in that whatever is on the coupon will be appied to your purchase.

I believe only the Bluebird card can be used online; the printed-out coupons and the Bluebird card can both be used in-store.

labtechkty 10-05-2014 03:19 PM

I don't shop at Walmart very often, don't have one close to my home. Sounds interesting though..
