I saw the dr yesterday. He said some people get kidney stones, some don't. Not a whole lot you can do to prevent them. He said drink lots of water with lemon. My dad and brother both get them too.
I have been behaving myself eating the past week. I went to put on my favorite shorts yesterday. They are elastic waist and I haven't worn them in a couple of weeks. OMG I could barely get them on. I was horrified. On closer examination I realized they aren't even my shorts. Not sure whose they are as I have never seen them before and no one has been here that they would belong to. Nothing like giving myself a heart attack.
My quilt guild dinner is tonight. It is our annual potluck. I was thinking of taking a dish made with zucchini. It is zucchini ribbons instead of pasta. I am going to make some for lunch and if it is good I will make some for dinner. We have so many zucchini!

KalamaQuilts 08-12-2014 06:00 AM

Oh, too funny...one of life's little jokes ;)
my laundry room is across from mom's bathroom and one night (dementia patients 'shop' in the night) mom put on a pair of Rob's shorts. It was 2 days before she'd give them up. This is kind of off color, but I asked Rob if any of his friends mother's in law had been in their shorts.

Holy cow did I go off the rails late yesterday. 2 doughnuts I bought for mom, 6 cookies, 2 Lindt truffles, 2 mini reeces cups. And I don't even like those...and popcorn for dinner.

Ok...fessed up. Have already walked and am at 4K steps. Have 3 of my waters in
Hey, that is another of my little mind tricks. I drink hot water in a big mug. It goes down a lot easier than cold water and I like my hot drinks hot so get it down my neck pretty rapidly.

the 301A in the cabinet I got is going to a member in Twin Falls Idaho, I'm so tickled. She is in much the same boat as me, a long line of enormous stresses. she is bartering with 30's reproductions.

I think this makes me officially off the fabric wagon I've been on since 2001. donated shirts are still fabric incoming :) as is bartered fabric. I'm thinking I would have been basically out of fabric by 2016 so I think it's ok.

I've had another thread deleted...so won't say what my next hand project is...but it's huge :)

bjsmith57 08-12-2014 06:40 AM

Just checking in - - I had to have emergency appendicitis surgery - - I will be recovering for the next 4-6 weeks.

Pam H 08-12-2014 08:10 AM

Pat, maybe you brought the shorts back with you from Hilton Head. That's a funny story. I have pinned a couple of recipes with the zucchini noodles (zoodles!). Do you have one of those fancy appliances to make them? I have a little gadget that makes spiral cuts that I think would work. Wish I had some of your zucchini!
KQ, I've been almost as bad as you with the sweets. Yesterday 1 doughnut, 4 cookies and a few pieces of twizzlers. I will be better today! You have not bought fabric since 2001? Wow! All that I have, I have bought since 2008 when I started quilting. Although I haven't gotten much in the last 2 years except when stores are going out of business.
BJ, I hope you heal quickly.
My sewing room is in a shambles. I had to clear off my counter top since I gave it to my daughter for her craft room. All that stuff is in tubs. Everything is moved around to let carpenters get to the window to put up new trim. I'm trying to find a table top that will work for a new cutting table. I plan to order several book shelves from Ikea to get everything organized. Wish I could just snap my fingers and have it the way I want it.

KalamaQuilts 08-12-2014 11:42 AM

quick recover bj, been there done that, don't envy at all :)

CindyA 08-12-2014 09:53 PM

Heal fast, bjsmith, sorry this happened but glad you're ok now.

Sounds like I'm not the only one struggling right now. We need to get back to good habits!! Why is it so much harder to get started than it is to get on the wrong path???

Do you all have Corner Bakery? I went there for dinner. I had planned on a salad and got there and had a chicken panini and tomato soup combo. The soup was not the creamy style and I'm wondering if that is what's giving me heartburn now. Plus, I had a large tea. Big mistake, that is keeping me up tonight. Too bad I don't have enough energy to quilt if I'm awake anyway.

I've got to start eating better again. I feel bad and the dr just told me she wants me to drop 40 lbs. It's been so long since I've been at the appropriate weight I had to ask her what my goal should be. I was able to add a few lbs to my old 'normal' due to age. Yay. ;)

If it makes you feel better, I stayed up until midnight drinking wine and eating popcorn. And of course today I feel tired and want to eat greasy food. Oh well. Better luck next time. I am down almost 3 pounds which I guess is good, but it's not as much as I had hoped.

I think I have missed someone on the FQ as I have one more FQ than names. So please let me know if I missed you.
I am making raspberry jam today. Our raspberries are getting ripe. This is my favorite fruit. I am eating tons. I made 10 jars a couple of days ago and have 10 more today.

irishrose 08-13-2014 09:50 AM

Hi, everyone. I am a the library again. I need to get my computer fixed. I finished the circle quilt, but when I went to take a picture, my camera wouldn't work. I used my phone, but have never tried to transfer a picture. I will when I get my own computer running again.

Pam, I have two GSs who vomit if they cry hard. At 24 and 12, it's not an issue, but it sure was when they were young.

Still don't know what I weigh as I can't stand on the scales without the big boot on. 8 weeks down and 3 to go. My son bought me a three wheeler for Christmas, but it just arrived. It's a learning curve - it tilts when the street tilts, but it has been fun to get out and about. I am keeping one bike. I think I prefer a bike to 3 wheels.

Hope y'all have a good month.

Pat you have me signed up for August but I've decided that this month would be my maintain month, will sign up again for September. Wishing all of you GOOD LUCK for August. Will let you know if I do maintain at the end of the month. Wish me luck.

Pam H 08-13-2014 02:42 PM

Your extra fq is was from me. Guess I should start putting my name on them!

meanmom 08-13-2014 03:13 PM

Pam I wondered if it was from you. It was my screw up. I just put the FQ away and forget to check your name off of the list. I also have a FQ from Sewbeit.

KalamaQuilts 08-13-2014 04:14 PM

Hey, everyone has tried Steamers frozen vegetables, right? They are SOO good. I just ate 3/4 of a bag, a large soup bowl serving. Broc and Cauli topped with spritzs of I Can't Believe Its Butter.

We are getting fresh string beans from the garden now, steamed about 20 minutes and again topped with ICBIB.
As I said in eariler months, because my mom takes a lot of time and all my brainpower, I've been paper piecing.
First I did 4.5" strings. Just strings...no brainpower required. Well they were pretty cute so I got a foundation factory wonky download and made tons of 2.5" geese. Pretty darn cute.
So I tried some wonky stars...way too complicated right now.
So I tried a 4.5" wonky house. Too cute. If I life to tell the tale I think I have the bones of a really cute quilt.
This is all shirt fabric from the ladies here on the board. When I get a few more houses finished I take a photo of what I've got.
I'm saving paper pulling for whenever bonnie hunter has her next quilt cam.

Steamed veggies...yum!
The first house we bought had a big garden. We moved in in late September so nothing was left but these ferny things. We tilled them under...an asparagus bed. that was 30 years ago and I'm still kicking myself

Kalama, I think next quiltcam will be next week. Did you do last year's mystery? It's the first one of hers that I've done. I used all scraps, yet I can't tell that I've touched my stash. Still need to get the borders on.

Sitting here enjoying some fresh fruit I cut up. So juicy! Meanmom, your raspberries sound wonderful!

Pam H 08-14-2014 11:17 AM

Wow, Cindy!! I love it!! I think I like your colors even better than Bonnie's. I haven't ever done one of her mystery quilts. She has them at a busy time of the year.

KalamaQuilts 08-14-2014 01:58 PM

I clear my decks and clean my quilt room for Mystery :) but we don't bother with holidays any more so it's a good time for me.
Yes I have all the components done for solstice, and a little bit assembled, but those were the months I first had mother home and they were chaotic and I'm not sure if that is one I'll ever go back to and finish.

She was a junk yard dog all day yesterday, and today is the first day ever she didn't start hollering before she even opened her eyes. Her only 'temper' was pounding her walker up and down the hall but not one complaint, a first.
She has already gone to bed so perhaps she is about to take another dip.

So you don't think it's all bad, she does have days when she is the real Betty, or the old Betty with social buffers in place and is an absolute delight to be with, funny and very sharp and quick. Doesn't happen often enough though, but I will remember those times.

More fresh beans today, yum! I have two doxies and they love veggies. While I was picking I gave one to Xavier ever so often, and then I hear Xing-Xing munching and thought what a smart doggie, he is picking his own. The next handful I turned to put in the bowl...there was Xing-Xing, head in the bowl, cherry picking the best ones :)
I'd be lost without my creatures!

meanmom 08-15-2014 03:00 AM

Cindy I love your quilt. I have never done one of Bonnies mystery quilts. I do have this one printed out but haven't started it yet. My dr put me on a new med on Monday when I was there that should work better for me. OMG I am having an allergic reaction to it. I have never itched so bad in my life. I have had a reaction to a med before but never like this. I called the office at 8:30 yesterday. I called 2 more times and left a message for the nurse. SHe finally returned my call at 12:30. She said she needed to talk to the dr who would be there any minute and would call back within 30 minutes. GRRRRR! I called back at 2:30. She finally called back at 3:30 and called something in for me. My entire body is covered with an itchy rash. The only thing that seems to help is a cold shower ever 1 1/2 hours. I have been taking Benadryl like candy. It doesn't seem to be much better this morning. Needless to say this was my first visit to this dr and it will be my last. I even had to shower in the middle of the night. Headed to the showers again. GRRRRR!

KalamaQuilts 08-15-2014 06:52 AM

Good Gad!

Good Gad! I would surely never take another one. Good Gad...holding you in the pocket of my heart!

Pam H 08-15-2014 02:09 PM

I had a similar reaction to a once a month med for bone density. I reacted to it twice since it must have been time released or something. Both times my skin pealed from head to toe after the itching was gone. Called the doc and she said it could't have been from the med she prescribed. Yeah right. I feel for you, Pat! Have your tried an Aveeno bath? Or oatmeal? Good luck!

CindyA 08-15-2014 04:02 PM

Pat, oh no!!! Hang in there, that is a terrible feeling!

Yes, Bonnie does put the mysteries out at a hectic time of year. I needed another project like another hole in my head, too. :D On the other hand, it was nice thinking about that then letting myself get all worked up over the holidays. Quilting is truly therapy, isn't it? Kalama, even though I had all the parts together it took a long time to put each block together. When I got it done and turned it over it really hit me how many seams are in this thing. I just love Bonnie Hunter, though, so I may try again for this year's mystery. Again, like I need another project. I definitely would use only from my stash again if I decide to do it. What I did with Celtic Solstice was to work on the most recent clue and no matter if I finished it or not I moved on to the next clue when it came out. I have large bags and would just write myself a couple of notes to remind me where to start when I had time to return to it. Seemed to work ok for me.

Will be socializing a lot this weekend. Hope I don't go hog wild. I'm still not doing a good job of getting myself motivated. :(

silverfoxmag 08-16-2014 06:31 AM

Cindy, your quilt is beautiful! Love the movement of the top and the colors are perfect! What is the name of this pattern?

CindyA 08-17-2014 03:45 PM

irishrose, been there done that as far as visiting the library to have computer use. Hope you can get your home one squared away soon so that it is more convenient for you. And, continued progress in your healing.

Meanmom, hope your reaction has cleared up and you are feeling better.

Silverfoxmag, the quilt is Celtic Solstice. It is a Bonnie Hunter quilt. Check out her website, www.quiltville.com and see her blog as well. She'll run another mystery quilt this year, if memory serves she starts releasing clues the day after Thanksgiving and releases a clue every week for maybe 6 weeks. She also has lots of free quilt patterns under one of the tabs on her site.

meanmom 08-17-2014 05:16 PM

My whole body was one solid red rash. At times it itched so much I got goosebumps and chills. I think the combo of Benadryl and Prednisone kept me from sleeping, also the itching. I barely slept for 3 days. I babysat my new granddaughter Friday night. She is such a good baby and a cutie. My brother had us down to his lake house for the weekend. All of my brothers and sisters were there and my mom. It was a really nice time. My mom is 87 and always has to go out on the waverunners. She loves the speed. SHe also likes to drive the boat. A very relaxing weekend.
The rash is a lot better. Still itchy at times. As long as I don't get hot it is pretty good. Hopefully most will be gone in the morning.

Pam H 08-17-2014 07:26 PM

Glad to hear your rash is better, Pat. I hope it is gone in the morning.
I have been on an eating spree and can't seem to stop. I seem to have lost my mojo. It had better come back soon!

Me, too, Pam!!! We better find a way to get motivated soon!

I had my follow up to my physical and everything looks good (for the most part). She said to work on 1/2 lb a week and it will be very 'doable' and I won't feel deprived.

Pete 08-18-2014 06:49 AM

I bought a Fitbit once, from Best Buy. Long story short: paid cash, tossed the receipt, it didn't work...Best Buy said sorry - no proof of purchase...no replacement. Next time, save receipt or charge!
See Dr today - do not think I lost. My triglycerides are down but cholesterol and LDL are up since last visit. Also, glucose is 4 points over top. Waiting to see what he will say. Blood work showing losts of inflamation--knew that as I have really been hurting. Still cleaning --- found a GameBoy with 10 games --- forgot I had it. Played Tetras all evening. Meanwhile remember "an instant on the lips -- forever on the hips"

KalamaQuilts 08-18-2014 07:22 AM

good morning ladies!
Got the yard mowing finished, just waiting till I quit sweating before I jump in the shower. Probably more information than you wanted to know :)

Am going to work on hand piecing today, am listening to Stephen King's Dome. Hopefully mother will be pleasant...
hugs to any and all, Sharyn

meanmom 08-18-2014 11:23 AM

I saw the knee dr this morning and he says it looks good. Almost no swelling. He says I only need to wear the brace when I exercise. Yeah! He suggested trying to go without the synvisc injections and see how it goes. He said I can do whatever I want that doesn't hurt. I made many trips up and down a steep hill to the lake this weekend and it felt good. I didn't tell him that I attempted to water ski. I haven't done that in 30 years. I made 3 attempts and almost got up but decided I had better quit.
I am still itchy but a lot better today. I had my 2 grandsons this morning. One is 4 and the other is 1 1/2. SO cute and so much fun. Now I should try to get caught up on laundry etc. I am feeling lazy today. I am making curtains for one of the teachers for her classroom. We got the fabric last week and I just figured out all of the cutting. Hopefully they will go fast. I have a quilt I want to finish up soon. I am debating on rejoining WW. I know I do well there but not sure I feel like going to the meetings. I might try the online version first.
Sharyn I don't need to cut the grass as it has been dry here and it isn't growing. Usually my DH waters it like crazy but he hasn't been this year. I hope your mom is in a good mood today as that can be so stressful.
Pat

Purl 08-18-2014 12:59 PM

WaaHoo! First day of our road trip and we are in a beautiful campground just outside of Eagle River WI. It is 64 degrees here and 80 degrees and storming back home. We need to keep ahead of the heat! Looks like there are extensive paths to explore and I'm ready.
Purl

Pam H 08-18-2014 04:28 PM

Welcome to Wisconsin, Purl! I love it here. I hope you enjoy your stay. Just don't get carried away by the mosquitos!

I am doing better with my food today. I'm going to go for a walk this evening if it's not raining. How's everyone else doing? Cindy, how is your day going?

nlc14 08-18-2014 05:15 PM

Same here! I am in WI as well. Welcome. :)

silverfoxmag 08-19-2014 10:03 AM

Thanks Cindy, I'll check it out.

Haha, too funny! Happens to the best of us. ;)

Pam, much better day for me. I started out with oatmeal for breakfast, that often helps me have a better day. Maybe I can get some momentum going here. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

Helps that I'm giving myself a quilt day, too!

CindyA 08-19-2014 06:13 PM

You have to read today's blog by Bonnie Hunter: http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2014/...-dogs-day.html. She's talking about the mystery quilt - last year's Celtic Solstice and this coming year's which she promises will be easier.

This is such a coincidence since we were just talking about the mystery quilt.

Pam H 08-19-2014 06:25 PM

Oh that Bonnie! She really gets me motivated. I think I will jump in and do her mystery this winter. I went through my stash plus bought several pieces to be ready for Easy Street and even printed out the instructions but I just never got it started. Last winter I couldn't even think about it. This winter I will do it! If it's easy enough for a beginner I should be able to handle it! LOL

Pam H 08-19-2014 07:42 PM

Ok, here's how my evening went. I went out for dinner with a group of friends. One woman was buying for everyone because she doesn't like to host a meeting at her house. I ordered a fish sandwich. I would have preferred to order the shrimp because it is a healthier choice but it cost a lot more so I didn't want to do that to my friend. The sandwich was delicious and huge! I really, really wish I had shared the sandwich with my daughter but I didn't realize it would be 2 filets on a big bun. I knew it would not be good leftover so I ate the whole thing (plus some sweet potato fries). I came home full and satisfied. My hubby went in the kitchen and got a big bowl of ice cream and sat in front of me to eat it. This is my favorite kind of ice cream and he doesn't even really like it. So then I have to have a bowl of it even though I am not hungry at all. At least I do use a very small berry bowl as my ice cream bowl. I don't know if it comes from growing up in a large family that I feel like I have to have my share or what. Does anyone else act like this?

CindyA 08-20-2014 07:21 AM

I most definitely have, Pam. More times than I'd like to think about, especially with any sweets but most of all ice cream!! I hope I'm back on track now, though. Yesterday was a good start, beginning with the oatmeal. During the day yesterday when I was going to eat I asked myself, do I need this? Am I really hungry (and stopped to think about that a minute)? Smaller portions, don't eat too much, don't eat too much, don't eat too much. I have terrible indigestion and even just one or two days of eating better helps so already today I'm feeling better. My goal today is a repeat of yesterday and hopefully I'll get some momentum going here. We can do this!!!

This little girl frustrates me so much! She is 17 mo old now. It is so difficult to get her to take a nap. She can make herself vomit so I can't just lay her down and let her cry. She won't even let me rock her anymore. When she realizes I want her to take a nap she starts gagging. If my car wasn't blocked in by constructions workers I would take her for a drive. Have you ever heard of a bulimic baby? I sure hadn't.

I just happened to see your post, and wanted to share a trick I learned from a lady when my youngest was small and threw tantrums. This is going to sound strange, but any time your little pumpkin starts to gag herself, get within a couple inches of her nose, and do the loudest gasp you can, and run away! When she figures out that gagging makes you jump and run away, it will stop. Might take a few times, but the peace returning will be worth it. The best way to deal with my little imp's tantrums was to do something to surprise her. One day I was so frustrated, I wanted to lock her in a closet. That would be cruel and illegal, so I stood by the closet door thinking "If I put her in there, I am in trouble, but it is not illegal to lock yourself in a closet" so I stepped into the closet, pulled the door shut behind me, and let her fuss to get the door open. After a couple minutes, when she finally took a breath, I opened the closet, she started again, and back in I went. I said nothing at all. She figured out that if she wanted me out of the closet, she had to be nice to mommy. Worked like a charm, that was the last tantrum she threw. You are a momma, by definition that makes you creative. Use your talent. I will keep you in mind as you struggle. My youngest and I are now best friends, so there is hope....lol!

meanmom 08-21-2014 04:39 PM

I thought this was going to be a nice calm week. My last week off before school starts. I was going to get tons of sewing accomplished. HA was I ever wrong. It has turned into a crazy week. I have an elderly uncle who has peripherial neuroprathy. (can't spell it) He lives alone and has no business doing it. We and his dr convinced him to do some PT. He is so slow to decide to do anything. Makes me want to scream. We convinced him to get life alert. I set it up for him yesterday and discussed and practice using it. We discussed when and where to carry it. He said OK. As I was getting ready to leave he put it back in the box and closed it. So stubborn and resistant to change.
Also had to do some things with my mom and DH. I had a dr appt today, haircut, went to the grocery made 12 qts of salsa and took my uncle to PT. She kinda told him he needs to start doing some things if he wants to stay independant. He was in tears. SOmething he needed to hear. So we had to go out for ice cream afterwards. I just ate dinner and I want ice cream again. GRRRRR! this has got to stop.
