"Black Friday" shopping

Love it or hate it? Me, I'll avoid the 2 major shopping malls here in town like the plague!:)

Manalto 11-26-2015 04:43 AM

Same here. I'd prefer a sharp stick in the eye.

Juliebelle 11-26-2015 04:45 AM

I gave up going out in Black Friday a long time ago, as I get older I get anxious in large crowds. We do a relaxing day with our daughter and her family, having finger foods and decorate our Christmas tree.

pojo 11-26-2015 05:03 AM

No way.

I went once that was enough for me.

I'll pay the couple dollars difference..

I don't like the crowds and the drivers on the roads.

Stitchnripper 11-26-2015 05:06 AM

I don't want or need anything badly enough to contend with that. If it is your thing I hope you enjoy!!

Manalto 11-26-2015 05:38 AM

Stay home and make fudge.

ro 11-26-2015 05:46 AM

to me its not worth it. but there certainly are some bargains out there if you're willing to get pushed and shoved. i'll wait and purchase it what I need like a human being.

gramajo 11-26-2015 05:58 AM

No way am I going. DD and I will go to our LQS first thing Friday morning and then go home and quilt for the rest of the weekend.

dunster 11-26-2015 07:30 AM

I might do some shopping online, but not in the stores.

Up North 11-26-2015 07:46 AM

I do all my shopping on line it is like Christmas everyday when a package arrives!

toverly 11-26-2015 07:49 AM

The only place I go is A&E Pharmacy in Pensacola, it's our LQS. Black Friday deal this year is fabrics 2013 and older are 55% off. 2014's are 45% off. It has exclusions that are typical, basics, batiks, collegiate, ect. But at those prices, I can pick up some neutral prints for quilt backs. Yeah!

Same here........as I said before George Strait could be there carrying me from store to store and I wouldn't go.
I would just lure him into my sewing room and leave him there instead. :)

tessagin 11-26-2015 08:54 AM

Most of my family live in northern Indiana. I go to my local grocery store down here and get VISA gift cards. They can hit the malls anytime they want with the cards. I don't worry about something that doesn't fit. It seems to fit in their wallets just fine.

Onebyone 11-26-2015 08:57 AM

My DDs and I use to go and had a great time, ending with a big breakfast at our favorite place. Lots of great memories of fun morning out with my girls. We never encountered the violence seen on tv at some stores now.

Jeanne S 11-26-2015 09:25 AM

I used to love it but not anymore! Trying to get rid of stuff not acquire more....except fabric that is. :D

annievee 11-26-2015 09:37 AM

Use to love it, would get in middle of crowd-have long arms and could out reach most of them. Not anymore just shop online--love free shipping so get for kids and grans that way.

quiltingcandy 11-26-2015 10:35 AM

We stay home and put up the Christmas tree. My DH used to go out, he likes being in crowds (he went to Disneyland on the 4th of July. I know I should have him tested.) but now he prefers to get the tree up early. We started doing the tree on the day after because it was one day the entire family could get together and put the tree up. Now it is just the 2 of us and we are still doing it - for me to get it over with, for him to get the house decorated. He would leave Christmas up all year long if I let him. :-D

susie-susie-susie 11-26-2015 12:00 PM

I went once--There was something that I wanted at a good price. Stood in line forever, and that item was on sale every day for the entire holiday season. My son went to Best Buy for a tv on Black Friday a few years ago (people were camped for hours, some all night). He walked in that afternoon, got the tv and was out of the store in about 10 minutes. He didn't even have to stand in line to pay for it. lol Learned my lesson. No shopping on Black Friday.

PABerard 11-26-2015 06:23 PM

I am going with one of my daughters to GStreet Fabrics for their big sale and then meet another daughter and grandson to pick the new Christmas Village piece. That's enough for me, a new piece of fabric and memories with a couple of my daughters and grandson. Then a nap ;-)

Deb watkins 11-26-2015 06:37 PM

With the on line shopping now, most stores will give you the same IN Store price.

sparkys_mom 11-27-2015 03:23 AM

Not for me!!

Sandygirl 11-27-2015 03:39 AM

Greed and mania by people who don't really care to understand why we (Christains) celebrate the holiday. We ordered our new TV online and set it up Wednesday. Merry Christmas to us!

Manalto 11-27-2015 05:06 AM

Buying electronics online certainly evokes the spirit.

cjsews 11-27-2015 05:35 AM

I went Thursday eve My DD has to work Friday so the earlier hours work for us. She is on a budget so BF is a blessing for her. WM let people go thru checkout early to avoid the big backup. We were out of there before 5 then on to Penny's and no big lines there either. We would not attempt 2 others as the lines to checking are normally better than an hour. Good deals and back home by 7. Life is good😋

ManiacQuilter2 11-27-2015 05:59 AM

In my younger years, I ENJOYED standing in line at Best Buy but not anymore. Seems that only electronics and toys are the big sales.

sewnsewer2 11-27-2015 06:42 AM

Guess I'm the odd woman, it doesn't bother me, it's the traffic & parking that bugs me!

annette1952 11-27-2015 08:09 AM

I have never been shopping on Black Friday & I don't plan on it now. Too much of a crowd for me. I'll do my shopping online

I will steal this one --sounds faster than being dragged down a gravel road by a galloping horse. I hate to shop any day let alone on BF

Birdscraps 11-27-2015 09:02 AM

My mom and sister and I used to go very early do loads of shopping by 11:00am or so and then head back home to have day after T-day turkey sandwiches but now all that is a memory, except for the turkey sandwiches! Now it's my day to decorate the house for Christmas. Way more fun and my wallet feels so much better!

ibex94 11-27-2015 09:21 AM

There is nothing that I need anymore that warrants the BF crowds but I did go to the fabric stores today for flannel because it is really affordable today at the chain stores. The interesting thing is that the stores weren't crowded and the folks in them were saying that they haven't seen huge crowds anywhere today.... the nasty shopping was last night (Thanksgiving Thursday). I got in and out of the stores really quickly and got my excellent prices on flannel to make pillowcases to wrap presents in. Bring on the sewing time!

Leslie333 11-27-2015 09:29 AM

I used to go, but not anymore. Did my Black Friday shopping this morning while drinking my coffee and in my PJs. Finished almost all my Christmas shopping! Just a couple of things I want to pick up in stores, but not today.

IBQUILTIN 11-27-2015 11:57 AM

I am not a fan of shopping at any time, but Black Friday? No way, no way, no way. I like to do mine online.

Mariposa 11-27-2015 01:12 PM

I used to go out, but now I'm enjoying starting the Bonnie Hunter mystery, also spending time with family~~

Fizzle 11-27-2015 03:24 PM

Went out this morning. :)
i enjoy it because it is an outing with my daughter. Have gone for years with her and a good friend. Lots of shoppers. Never experienced any mean, aggressive behavior like you hear about. But it has changed. Stores open on Thanksgiving. Not for me. And no deal is worth it to me to go before 5 AM. Not sure what I will do next year. Will wait and see what moves me.....

Melrose R 11-27-2015 04:09 PM

I don't do the Black Friday shopping outside the comfort of my home. Did some online however! I did run to the hardware store to get a bolt. That doesn't count tho!

retiredteacher09 11-27-2015 07:31 PM

I went to a chain store around 8:30 last night to see if they had an item that my son and future DIL wanted for their Godson. No lines and I was also able to pick up an item that I ordered online a day earlier. Today I went around 2:30 p.m. and no lines. I like that kind of shopping. I did some online shopping also.

Like Jeanne S, I am trying to get rid of stuff. I did order Accuquilt dies so I can cut more of my scraps. :)

I also bought 60 colorful 2 foot square cushioned mats to use in my sewing area after I tear out the yucky carpet. Here's a chuckle: At checkout, my person was a teenager and he said I would guess you are using these for a daycare. I smiled and told him they were going into my sewing area. His reply was precious: My grandmother has those in hers too. It's easier to see pins when they fall. Lol!

BETTY62 11-27-2015 07:53 PM

I do my best to avoid all stores from 6 PM on Thursday until 8 AM on Monday, however, in my younger days I was out there shopping till I dropped. LOL

peggy119 11-27-2015 08:48 PM

For the past 10 years or so, we have gone to Shipshewanna, IN. Even though they are having their big horse auction, it is still a peaceful day. My husband is so patient as I shop for fabric!! My Christmas shopping is done on line when ever possible.

shasta5718 11-28-2015 08:57 AM

Only went to Jo Anns, never again. Took 2 hours to get fabric cut.

Karen Mc 11-28-2015 06:21 PM

I did it once some time ago and that was enough.
