I received a bread maker several years ago for a present. They were in vogue at that time and it was easy to find bread mixes at the market. Now they seem to be nonexistent. Does anyone still use a bread making machine or know where to find mixes or recipes online?

QuiltnCowgirl 07-22-2011 08:54 AM

I have a used bread machine that was given to me by a friend who longer wanted it. I found the owners manual & recipe book online. I have never used one of the mixes. I've only used the recipes from the machine's manual. Maybe you can look online?

quiltingcandy 07-22-2011 08:54 AM

I used to get them for my parents at Williams and Sonoma.

sewmuch 07-22-2011 08:56 AM

I used to make bread all the time, to much in fact, had to give it up...never used the mixes, just my bread book for recipes....we did love our bread...

erstan947 07-22-2011 08:56 AM

I had a booklet that came with mine and bought a book at the book store. Still use mine. Love it:) Just do a google search and lots will come up:)

MissSandra 07-22-2011 08:56 AM

I bought my daughter one and she loves it and uses it weekly, she found recipies on the net and has had quite abit of success I still make bread from scratch

Cherylsea 07-22-2011 09:01 AM

Both my grocery store and health food store have mixes. There are probably tons of recipes on-line.

Peckish 07-22-2011 09:04 AM

I never cared much for the mixes, I much preferred the taste of the from-scratch recipes that came with my machine - especially Honey-Oatmeal bread!

If you're looking for "dump-n-go", you could always make up batches of your own mixes and stash them in Ziplocks for future use. I do this with pancake mix.

carolstvnsn 07-22-2011 09:07 AM

You could try kingarthurflour.com

maryb119 07-22-2011 09:10 AM

I use the "make from scratch" ingredients with mine. I use it a lot.

QuiltnCowgirl 07-22-2011 09:20 AM

Yumm - Honey Oatmeal sounds good. My favorite is "Triple Wheat", one of the recipes with the machine.

cmrenno 07-22-2011 09:33 AM

I recomend King Arthur Flour's web site for recipes http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipe/

I like to mix the dough in my breadmaker and then bake it myself. I love to make English Muffins and Bagels. I also make my favorite white bread recipe and then I "braid" three
strands together, let it rise, brush with an egg wash and sprinkle with seseme or poppy seeds. People are so impressed wth homemade bread. I am not baking too much in this heat. But as soon as it cools off a bit I'll be back at it!

Maggiesmom 07-22-2011 10:04 AM

My husband bakes bread from recipes in his breadmaking books all the time. He loves trying all the different kinds.

plainpat 07-22-2011 10:09 AM

King Arthur flour has the hands down best bread recipes on line.Love that site.Don't make a lot of bread...we'd eat every crumb :)

I use mine a lot but have to watch the humidity in the summer. I use the dough setting and make all my hot dog and hamberger buns too

This is where I buy all my ingredients to make a variety of breads as well. Nothing like fresh bread in the fall/winter months. :)

pipp5 07-22-2011 10:20 AM

The only bread we have is what I make in the breadmaker. Allrecipies.com is my second home after here. There are a ton of recipies online to be found and what I love about that site is that you can read everyones comments about their likes/dislikes of the recipe and all the tweaks that they did to improve on it if needed.

I've also learned that AP flour makes just as nice of a loaf as the more expensive breadmachine types.

pocoellie 07-22-2011 11:39 AM

I have a couple of books on making bread and I've found lots of bread machine recipes online. Buying the pre-packaged mix, to me, is like buying a store bought loaf of bread, which would probably be cheaper, although the couple of small grocery stores that we have do have a couple of different pre-packaged mixes.

peachpie4me 07-22-2011 11:51 AM

Amazon sells Hodgson Mills mixes they are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!

blossom808 07-22-2011 11:55 AM

There are lots of them line. Try Betty Crocker.com
There are books too.. Look in the thrift stores.
I just bought one at the market. There where the line is. they have little cook books there..

Jim's Gem 07-22-2011 12:04 PM

Yes, they are hard to find. I found one (the last one) at WM a few months ago. They said it was left over from the Holidays. You can go on www.oster.com and find one. Or, go to www.breadmaker.com My friend got her's there and cheaper than Oster. Good luck...I am getting ready to make some whole wheat loaves. Love the whole wheat bread. Mary

Sallyflymi 07-22-2011 12:49 PM

Try http://www.oster.com/Recipes.aspx?rgid=105 Use Oster all the time to make bread. Doing so as i write this. Hope this helps. Don't use the mixes. Make from scratch.

Glassquilt 07-22-2011 01:06 PM

I use any recipe I want to. I just adjust the amount of flour to keep it in line with what the machine can handle.

FancyFoot 07-22-2011 02:53 PM

I use mine for pizza dough

nyelphaba 07-22-2011 05:17 PM

I use mine all the time.

NancyBelly 07-22-2011 05:24 PM

babyquiltlady 07-22-2011 05:25 PM

Sorry I can't help - I buy bread and spend my time quilting.

thimblebug6000 07-22-2011 06:25 PM

Did you use the search function on this forum? That's where many of us have posted bread machine recipes, hope you can find one you love.

lol that's why the rest of us have bread machines, silly! You dump the ingredients in, push a button, and go quilt. 2 hours later you come back, slice up your warm bread, slather it with butter and jam, and tell your family how much they should appreciate you because you spent all that time baking and kneading!

quilt3311 07-23-2011 03:17 AM

I bought mine at Menards about 6 months ago. My old one finally gave up. I had that one for almost 10 years. Use it at least twice a week. Just type in bread machines online and lots will come up. Check out local hardware stores as lots handle small appliances.

When using recipes (not mixes) the end product will be nicer if you use yeast and flour labeled for use in bread machines--I don't, because of limited storage space--I need regular yeast and flour for other things I bake, but a neighbor swears by the special yeast. piecefully, the old one

ssgramma 07-23-2011 03:56 AM

I love my bread machine so much that when it died I had a new one on the way the same day! I got a Cuisinart from Amazon and like it just fine.

joivey 07-23-2011 03:58 AM

I love mine. Just google for recipes and there are hundreds. Good luck.

NanaKathy55 07-23-2011 04:20 AM

I have been making bread all week..You can get great recipes @
recipesource.com
I just use to make the dough, then I knead it and put into pans and let rise, then bake in oven..to me its not so large and easier to cut

Hope this helps

JeannieT 07-23-2011 04:29 AM

I like mine and love the smell it fills the house with, especially in the winter. My granddaughter likes to stand on a stool and watch the kneaders work...she thinks it's a hoot that they start and stop, start and stop....hmmm, i might have to make bread today....

lynndianne 07-23-2011 04:48 AM

I had one for years that sat on a shelf. While working at a thrift store I found a brand new one for $3.00 and bought it. I donated the old one back to the T.S. I've made several loafs.....1 hr. bread. Works great.

Lynn

KarenR 07-23-2011 04:54 AM

I LOVE my bread machines!! Yes I currently have two on the counter. Never used a mix from a box!!! Have some great recipies. Family tested. Each member has their favorites.

I'm on number 4 and 5 of the bread machines! You can tell I use them all the time!

Never looked at King ARthers site thanks for the link.

Almost any bread recipie can be made in the bread machine - you just have to figure out the measurements you need. It has worked for me.

doloresbeger 07-23-2011 05:17 AM

Go to the Yahoo groups and do a search. There is a bread machine group. Dolores
