All the Aldi stores do it You get your quarter back when you bring back the cart It saves the store money and time and its a lot better than having your car banged up by lazy peoples run-away carts

If I am correct you get your quarter back when you return the cart. They are trying to keep them out of the parking lots. One of our food stores does this and it works, None of their carts are left in the parking lot.

Our Aldi's has always done this.No big deal, when you take the cart back you get your quarter back. But what I can't understand is why no bags! If you forget to bring any bags you have to look for a empty box or unload you're groceries from the cart to the trunk!! That's just silly IMHO

Are they maybe using the same cart system as they use at Aldis? Put in your quarter and then when you return the cart you can pull your quarter back out? Great system at Aldis, makes sure people bring their carts back so they are not rolling allover the parking lot banging into peoples cars.

Actually Aldi in our area does the same thing. I don't mind it because then I don't have abuggy that is left in the parking area that can run into my car or someone else's car or take up a parking space. I can see them doing it in bigger metropolitan areas if they have a lot of homeless people that would take them to use as their means of transporting their wordly possessions. So I really don't mind this.

Some of the big stores have that here.Stops the "ferals"leaving them lying around the streets.

Do you get your quarter back when you put the cart back in the cart line?
Our Aldi's has carts like that. When you get one out, you put in a quarter to get it unlocked from the next one. When you take it back, put the end of the chain in the quarter slot and get your quarter back.
I have seen grocery carts all over the place. It seems to me that if you get your quarter back, it is a great way for the store to control it's cart inventory. I am sure they aren't cheap. Less lost carts keeps our bottom line down.

That is the biggest bunch of SH** I have ever heard of.
I can't believe customers have not complained about that one. Upper management needs a swift kick in the rear end!!!

I guess when they start that around here I am finding another store to shop at. We get charged for shoplifters, damaged goods when people try them on --trying to get into a smaller size than the butt fits etc. what next. pretty soon we will be cutting our own fabric there too. we already bag our groceries at some stores.

Here in Edmonton all stores use the money system for their carts, the incentive is to return the cart to get your money back.
