Are all quilters cat lovers, too? Lol! It seems like there are so many cat avatars on here that their must be a connection? What does everyone think? :-D
I think that generally quilters are great people and great people usually have a cat or dog, or both!
i think cats have an inner quiltness to them. my darling allie can hide and we won't find her for hours. Just let "mommy" get the scissors out and she is jumping on the table!
My dog never jumped up and helped me but the cat did. :)
Mine is a quilted cat. She sits on the back of the machine while I sew and has been known to bat the thread. She loves batting snd has her own batting bed outside my long arm room. She is very jealous of the long arm because she can't. Sit with me. She sits on every quilt I make. where else can you find such an involved family member!!
My grandmother was a quilter and she also loved cats so I guess it's in my DNA
Where I go, Rudy goes. I am his person. Grew up with dogs but current life style isn't suitable so I have cats. Animals add life to a home. What else can I say?!
I have quilting friend who is extremely allergic to cats. Her only cat is a fabric one.
If I had a cat she couldn't visit me. I don't have a dog either because I travel to much and can't take with me. |
I love my cat and love quilting, but the two do not mix. Bailey loves to eat threads from the edge of fabric, and gets himself sick over it, so i have to keep him out of the quilting room. Poor guy! Our former cat Buddy is in my avatar, and liked to sit on the Christmas tree skirt. Under the tree was his own place, he thought!

no

i think, in general, pets are becoming more popular. some government statistic recently said that there are more homes with pets than with children. of course, allergic pet-lovers like me don't have any.
Not every quilter is a cat lover. I much prefer dogs, and fish.
I certainly hope I never have to be without either a cat or a quilt.
My Peanut Butter is like Heid's, loves to eat thread. She grabbed on to the end of a spool of Sulky rayon thread and had a wad in her mouth before I noticed. Have to keep a close eye on her at all times as she will also grab small pieces of material and try to bat them into another part of the house. She is usually banned just outside the door of my sewing room. Love her.
I adore my huge dog. But I would not mind having a cat around also, if space permitted the two to interact....but too small....
We just lost our dog a few months ago, but still have her best friends with us (2 cats). I don't usually let the cats in my sewing room unless I am there. A number of years ago we had a cat that ate some thread and ended up having it wound around her internal organs. Unfortunately we didn't catch this problem soon enough and the cat didn't survive. Lesson learned for me.
My avatar is our Ms. Big...We have our routine...I go sew from 9-noon Mon-Fri..She's not allowed in my sewing rm so at noon she starts if I'm not on time "Meowing" her head off at the bottom of the steps because it's lunch time and we go outside and sit in the sun for the remainder of the day together...CAT PEOPLE...
My avatar is my BU BU's version of being helpful. My green gardening gloves became my only defense that evening. The only room that has a closing door in my pathetically small apartment is the bathroom. Best time for me to sew at all is during one of her extensive bed protection periods. Her eyes might appear to be closed, but her ears are not. She is a sneaky little poop that I rescued from becoming a ward of the pound or a victim of a coyote.

well i have 3 cats. wouldn't mind a dog though.

Not a cat person. I don't dislike them (well some - yeah), but I could never live with a cat. I couldn't handle an animal that went wherever it wanted to go (counter tops, on top of PC, etc), had claws to scratch furniture and skin (I think de-clawing is cruel), nor do I want a litter box anywhere in my house. I don't believe in letting animals outside on their own accord either as it's too easy for them to be injured or killed.
I like cats, adore some that belong to friends, but I could never tolerate a cat in my house. |
Love my babies....i have 4 cats, 2 dogs,1 turtle, and 6 hermit crabs
I guess we've always had at least one cat usually 2 though to keep them company while we're gone.
They are so independent and certainly let me know what they think about different matters, especially things they don't approve of. Since DH is gone so much, they are a great deal of company without being demanding or needing walked. Great feet warmers during the winter too :) |

I like my cats a lot, but I'm madly in love with my dog!
no cats here but love my dogs...we only have 2 poms now, I had to have 2 put down in the last 2 years..they were both my quilting buddies and stayed right beside me as I quilted, the two that we still have aren't interested at all...lol
my Trouble just loves quilts especially if they aren't hers, she loves sitting on my quilt books, and lap when I am on the board, she is very vocal, a true siamese personality even if she is a mutt
The 3 kitties of this house let the quilter (me) live here too :)
I prefer dogs, but disabilities allow only for cats-they require less physical work, except for carrying the cat litter. But they don't require walks and can be left alone for longer periods of time. And they require less work when getting a 'sitter' during travel.
I guess it depend on the day, but I am more of a cat person then a dog person. And more so as I get older. Cats just require so much less to maintain.
I have always felt that people who say they don't like cats, have just not met the right cat. My sister in law has always said she hated cats, but when she was here and spent time with mine, she fell in love. And they loved her. She has two little poodles and she decided that my cats were so much easier, plus they did not bark or go nuts if a car went by. I have severe allergies to cats and dogs and a lot of other things, but ya know what? They have pills for that. If I worried about my allergies I would have to live in a hospital type clean room. I am not willing to do that. I also lost a cat because of a thread incident. He lived for awhile after his surgery but was never the same. So I am super careful about thread of all kinds. My kitties come and go in the sewing room, and I do have to keep stuff picked up. That is probably a really good thing. |
I have thought the same thing. Then I see a happy pooch as an avatar. I think we just like their warm companionship as we work alone in our little quilting world. They seem to be able to enter it so easily.
My cat is great at removing pins for me, warming cold fabric and rearranging my pieces to form new patterns. Just love her help! |
2 dogs and 1 cat and love them all,
I guess cats (dogs) and quilts go together.I made a sewing machine cover with an applique of my cat on it. Looks kind of like my avatar but without the white.
I've had as many as four cats and a dog at the same time. Now down to two and I think that will keep me for a while. Mine don't seem to 'play' with my quilting things but bring out the scrapbooking and they are in the middle. Maybe they don't bother the quilting because I don't sit still much. At any rate, I would miss them if they weren't around.

I have a Shorkie dog NO cats

I could never be with out critters I have 2 big cats and 2 little dogs and they are all my little helpers Moms house seemed to be where people 'Dropped off' their unwanted pets There were 6 kids and 2 adults and the numbers had gotten up to 12 critters per person Mom got a part time job to offset the food bill And they all had names- None were ever turned away. My Dad built Cat houses with a lite bulb in them for keeping them warm So I have critter fur in my blood :) and wouldn't have it any other way

When I am at home, my cat is where ever I am. She nags me to go out into the sewing room. She has two spots where she curls up. She is a great companion except when she sees a squirrel outside and runs over me and the sewing machine to get at him. It is kind of funny when she forgets that there is a window between her and the squirrel.
