There is a lot of meaning in all that you have written. I have been on both ends. I made the mistake of not acting surprised when my children gave me a purse that I wanted. It was not THE one I wanted. And of course disappoint showed on my face. I am not a good actor. I do love the purse and I did tell them it was just the one I wanted. Which after I got home and was checking e-bay, it was the right one and I had to tell all that IT was the one I wanted. My children are a mixed bag when it comes to home made or store bought. I just give because I enjoy it. Regift if they want to. Its there's. Quilts I will never turn away from. Happy New Year to all.

Well you can FEEL anyway you want. How you ACT is something else. There is no excuse for a reaction that makes the giver feel bad. Maybe you won't jump up and down and holler, but you can say, sincerely, wow, this is very nice - thank you so much for making it for me. Most people have enough acting ability to make it convincing.

I can't believe I am hearing about people saying, is this what you got me, not saying anything and putting it aside, etc. Who brought these people up? Is this what we are coming to -- it's all about ME ME ME - if I didn't get what I want I will make sure everyone knows it.
If I had ever acted that way my mother would have killed me. I am gathering from these threads that it is mostly the younger people who react this way. I think something is missing in their upbringing. And I think some older people are catching this attitude too.

Excellent post! Thanks :)

Great post!! I haven't had anything negative, but I haven't gifted too many. Will keep this in mind.

Wonderful thoughts. i sew for our local "Babies in Need", "Neighbors helping Neighbors" and our local homeless shelter, plus my main focus is on making quilt for people who are sick, I have never had a truly sick person be anything but super appreciative, and teary-eyed when i gave them a quilt. Many who have recovered use their "Care Quilts" each day for a lap robe or napping blanket.

What a truly wonderful way to turn a negative into a positive! Thanks for the input.

I think this goes back to the fall posting that we used to say grace before gimme gimme.
It is the thought that counts. Some one cared enough to think about giving a gift.
I do add that if something I give will make someone they know happier that they are welcome to pass it along. And the great feeling is that they too are thinking of someone who will enjoy the love and time that I put in to the gift.
I have learned not to be hurt. In this crazy world more and more people are forgetting the Golden Rule.

I make and give because I enjoy it....If I am looking for a gift for an individual..I know who would appreciate my talent and who would not...I give alot to charities that I know love my quilts and embroidery.
