I had a pink plate that was depression glass. It belonged to my grandmother who got it during the depression. I have no idea what the pattern was. The paint on it was starting to peel from age.
I handed it down to my sister who has all the other family plates. I figured all the plates should be in one person's hands. It will be passed onto her daughter (my neice) which I am happy with.

I also heard that alot of these dishes were handed out free at gas stations when you filled up or from soap powder boxes back during that time and into the war.

I collect the pink Rose of Sharon or I think some call it cabbage rose.

I used to actively collect blue Baroque Fostoria glass. Now, I just enjoy what I have and only get more if a happy accident happens. Eg., an unexpected find!

NikkiLu 02-11-2011 05:25 PM

I have a TON of Royal Ruby. I buy it and then display it, then pack it up in boxes to make room for more! Have absolutely no idea what all that I have. Hope it is an investment.

quiltgran2 02-11-2011 06:02 PM

Qbee, I love your pictures. It all looks fabulous in your kitchen. Your cobalt rolling pin is a beauty - I hope it's secure on the wall.
I know what you mean about repros when it comes to DHs. Mine bought a ton of depression glass on ebay, some the real thing and some not so real.... after I had it for awhile I finally, gently broke it to him that I was quite sure a few items were repo's. He didn't say too much! Anyways, I think he learned his lesson and that's the only reason why I told him - fearful he might keep doing the same thing.

I have alot of patterns as I don't collect any one. I have a ton of blue bubble, pink dogwood, and fireking. Have some of iris, florentine, floral and diamond, cameo, windsor and many more. Love it all. I keep some on display and use some of it fairly regularly, but alot is in my cupboards and not used too often. I also love collecting kitchenware from the 30's - 60's.

I collect pink - any pattern and ruby.

QuiltnCowgirl 02-11-2011 07:42 PM

My Aunt gave me my Grandmother's Candlewick dishes. I have plates, cups & saucers, serving bowls & utensils, and can't remember what else. I added some pieces to the set last summer. Like others, I have had to educate myself because I did buy some Candlewick lookalikes (made by Anchor Hocking of all companies)! I am just honored to have these dishes, because I know they meant a lot to Grandma & represent one of the few things she did for herself in those hard times.

I have a Jadite mixing bowl w/handle. We had a county cleanup day and was waiting for DH & a county worker to unload some large pieces from our truck. I was walking around the piles just looking and found a box of dishes. Every plate was broken and most of the cups , it was turned upside down and survived.Since then I have had a thing for Jadite. :-D

scrappylouisa 02-12-2011 06:10 AM

My hubby, Rich was fortunate to inherit an almost complete set of Floragold (Louisa) dishes from his mother.

After Dad died last June my sisters and I divided up all the glassware that my mother had collected over the years. She loved any pattern that was forest green. She also had collected several pieces of Ruby Red and others.

I have several pieces of glass that I've collected over the years in various colors and patterns.

I also collect cobalt blue glassware.

I had a large assortment of Hazel Atlas "Royal Lace" in pink. I had inherited some of it from my great aunt. Really loved it, but lost it in a house fire. :-(

Janetlmt 02-12-2011 03:12 PM

I collect the cherry blossom pattern also. My mother recently gave me a cake plate and 6 small plates that she received as a wedding gift 70 years ago.

LindaWheattall 02-12-2011 03:29 PM

I really don't collect Depression glass but I do have a collection I inherited from my mom. My father worked at the Hocking glass company in Lancaster Ohio between 1032 and 1937 and brought pieces he made home to my mom. I have the ice blue(very rare) Mayfair design and my sister got several pieces of the pink and green. I have them on display and will never sell them. My great grandkids will get them probably. I go to antique malls in Ohio all the time and have not seen any of the ice blue.

Sewingyankee 02-12-2011 03:50 PM
