What a nifty idea - I like frugality when it works in this fashion!!! keep on going girl.... great job!

I just had to add my 2 cents worth on darning socks. Yes, I still do it & actually enjoy it--makes me feel like I've fixed something that was broken. Our son & DIL laugh because I say I enjoy it so one year for Mother's day I got a package of socks to be mended. I still smile when I think of it.:)

I do. I wear support hose that are custom made and very $$. So...I darn over darn over darn! But --- where can I find darning thread? Currently using DMC.

What I use to darn socks now is those big, softball-sized rolls of crochet cotton. It is cheap and holds up better than embroidery thread.

I haven't seen regular darning cotton in years.

Yep, that's what I do, actually have ten pairs that way, that I plan on replacing today.

I have to agree with this one. I don't wear out my socks very often. DH does, but they aren't expensive. I've tried to teach him to toss the ones with holes when they come off, but I always end up doing it after they've gone through the washer and dryer :)

yes I save a few bucks and feel usefull doing it!

I have some of the darning thread that you are talking about from my grandmother. Send me your address via a pm and I will mail it to you. I darn blue jeans and flags, but don't do socks anymore.

Nope. Never have and probably never will. He already has enuf socks to last him the rest of his life lol.

I don't darn socks!!! My mother darned my socks when I was a kid and I hated them. When I put on a pair of socks today they have to be smooth on my feet, no wrinkles. I think its because I had to wear those darn darned socks.
