Yep, I do... not often anymore, but I'm working on one right now for a friend - his favorite socks.

I know how to darn sock, thanks to my grandmother's teaching. I'm with BettyGee in blue jean repair. Hubby uses his old jeans when he car repairs, when the jeans get holes again I mend them, get more life. No since in using good jeans for dirty car work. Same for the t-shirts, the collars wear thin, I repair and he uses those for repair work on cars or building projects. Extend the life of clothes.

I still have my mom's darning block(?) and darning thread-
haven't used it in years, though - not enough time! Mostly the socks just become too loose & floppy!

That's my favorite method! In order to darn a sock, I would first have to find a mate. Never happens!

Yes, but usually my DD's favorite thick winter socks!

Yes, I do darn socks that get a hole...I have my MIL's darning egg...I don't know if it the socks these days, but I seem to have many pairs that have gotten holes along the side where the turning for the heel is....sometimes very shortly after boughten...once darned, they seem to last a long time, so to me it is definitely worth it!

I find that also like its where they start or stop on the factory machine.

when I was younge and watching Mom darn socks, she used a darning egg, did the weaving, and afterwards, GENTLY took the closed scissor blades and tapped the sewing down. that made it smoother and almost unnoticible. I've kept up the darning on my kids and hubbys till kids moved out, and hubby wears them to death when he wears socks. I still darn-now its clothes that need mending.

Also, to avoid holes in the toe have the person put the sock on then pull it at the toe a little to give them wiggle room. Lots of peole make the mistake of pulling the socks to tight which makes the holes. It saves lots of toe darning. Might solve your problem. and have hubby cut his toenails.

Oh, and another thing. Those old socks before you throw them out, can be used on your hand as dusting cloth. you can really get into the smaller places better. When finished dusting, remove from hand by pulling so the are insde out-dust bunnies stay inside and just put the in garbage,.....or wash and reuse marking first with a felt tipped pen. That lets you know it's not a sock for he feet.
