My dads is under his car too. He has to flip a switch or something to lower it. Thank goodness mine is in the SUV. I have only changed a tire on a car once and hope to never do it again.

I do have AAA, but I've needed to use my donut twice in the past. It needs replacing at this point. Lovely. Yet more to spend on my car.

Both van and trucks are underneath.
I can get the one out for the van, but the one for the truck? Nope, the bolts are rusted under there and hubby tried to get it out, but couldn't. I'm thinking some Liquid Wrench/WD 40 might do the trick.

Mine is in my trunk under the carpet, but dang if I know how to put it on :(

Mine is back in the trunk. I just had a flat last week and changed to it. Then fixed the flat tire and changed it back.

On my S10 and my daughters van the donut was under the vehicle. Until the bolt rusted and they went flying down the road now it sits in the bed or back of the vehicle.

Terri, there's stuff called PB Blaster that will loosen the rust on the bolts. I lived in the snow belt for many years and learned early on to put a huge gob of grease or vaseline on things on the underside of vehicles!! But this truck I have now has a lock on the spare underneath, but doesn't open with anything that actually looks like a key!! What fun that was the 1st time I had to get at it!! I had no idea it was the tubular looking thing in the glovebox. Key?? what key! Ford never gave me a key I say to the nice guy helping me. He found it in my glovebox, I felt like an idiot, and now can change the tire by myself :lol: :lol:

When they put our tires on with air wrenches, it is almost impossible to get the lug nuts loose. I make them back them off and tighten them by hand. I still may have to jump on the lug wrench to loosen them, but atleast it is doable... Also it pays to have a lug wrench with 4 "arms" to it, so that you can jump on it if you are stuck out in the middle of nowhere... the single ended wrenches sometimes are not good for anything other than banging on the tire in frustration!!! :x :lol: :x

My spare is in the back of my HHR, under the 'floor', carpet, boxes of new linoleum tiles for the bathrooms, fleece blankets, bags....... :wink:

I have a full size tire under tha van on the outside. I have AAA! I have had flats where the tow truck operator couldn't get the tire to fall down so he could get to it, and another one couldn't get the lug nuts off, a bolt was stripped (he didn't charge me for the call). So I have been towed and had to air up ( I was in my driveway with an air compressor) and drive to my tire dealer to get the tire changed the next day. I suppose I COULD do it myself, but only if I absloutely HAVE to!
BTW My dad would not let me get behind the wheel to start learning to drive until I rotated the tires on the family station wagon! I wonder how many tires I have actually changed in my travels. I used to have flats regularly on highways, and could change tires pretty competently, but wouldn't want to do it now. And yes, I do have the 4 arm tire wrench! And I also know where the jack is hidden! :lol:
