Reminds me of the last time i had a flat .. it was a rear tire and I had just left a bar( good thing all I drank was pop ) when a police officer pulled me over to tell me I had a flat  We got into my trunk but even he couldn't figure how to get my hub cap off to change the tire ! LOL I parked the car and he drove me home..LMAO.. When i asked him what he does when he gets a flat he looked sheepish and said he calls the service garage for the police department :? They all have take home cars that they can drive anytime

I had no idea it was the tubular looking thing in the glovebox. Key?? what key! Ford never gave me a key I say to the nice guy helping me. He found it in my glovebox, I felt like an idiot, and now can change the tire by myself

Who knows the last time that spare was accessed!
I do know that I need to pull the tire down from the van to check it. I usually check it every 6 months just to make sure it's ok.
Never know when you are going to get a flat. Wouldn't be a good thing to pull it down and it be flat, then you are sort of out of luck.
AAA? Nope, don't have it here. BUT...I do have the tow company on speed dial on my cell phone lol

The only way for me to change a tire is with my cell phone. I have our mechanic on speed dial  Actually, living in this podunkie town, that is one of the good parts....the first person by would stop and do it for me and probably all I would owe them is a pie or some fried chicken or something...maybe garden tomatoes...

(Really, I do know where the spares are and how to get them, but I haven't done it since I was in high school. I thought thats what brothers were for)

Dad taught us how to change the oil, change tires and whatnot. All the pretty easy stuff. We lived in the middle of practically nowhere, so if a tire were to go flat, we'd be waiting a long time for someone to come by.

Okay... first of all let me just say.... I don't do tires  Thats what the DH is for right  I always know where my spare is just in case though. My first car was in truck, the next two vans were under it and the car I have now is inside in a well in the back.....

Now when the tire comes out from under it while you are driving the car that makes for interesting stories. Yep thats what happened.

I was at the Wal Mart with my trusty steed "The Chevy Astro" van. I was alone. No kids No husband. I pulled into the plaza drive and turned on the frontage road and into the parking lot. Sunglasses on, music blaring, no kids screaming I mean really what could be better on a saturday afternoon. When all of a sudden the back of my van jumped about 12 inches off the ground and came back down. It shocked me to say the least  I looked in the rear view mirror to see a cloud of dust bigger than the van. Red dust as in rust    good ol WNY snow and salt. I saw something out of the corner of my eye and sure enough it was my full size spare rolling across the parking lot and off into the ditch     I was mortified. I pulled into a parking spot not really sure what to do. This lady pulled up next to me to tell me I had lost my spare tire. I immediatly without missing a beat said to her "Thats not my spare tire" she must have thought I was nuts.   I called my husband with the local payphone and calling card.....what was a cellphone..... He told me to go get it and bring it home that it was a perfectly good tire. I said NO WAY.... He said GO GET THE TIRE... I said if you want it you come get it. Now let me point out that the Walmart is 20 miles from my house. I went shopping and came home to be greeted by DH wanting to know where the spare was... I replied with laughter and tears that it was still in the ditch. There was NO WAY I was going to go pick it up with everyone wondering whose spare was there. Thats my spare tire story and I am sticking to it.

Mine was under my truck, but I keep it in the back of the truck now.

full size spares are too heavy for most women to lift, even enough to hoist it onto the wheel. i could never get it out of the wheel well when it was there.
it laid flat, not up and down on the side, like they used to. men design cars for men.

the van i use now has it under the bottom. even though it weighs less, can you see me lying on my back on the shoulder in ny traffic, trying to disconnect whatever holds it up and sliding it out and then putting it on? in your dreams!http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/s...aughing013.gif

Ditto, BFW. 1 - I call DH, and he'd better be home or I call Fred, our lawyer. 2. - I call AAA. 3 - I call a tow truck. 4 - My chiropractor would laugh himself silly if I asked him if I could change a flat tire - and then he'd say, 'Isn't that why you got married?'

First thing I do with a "new" vehicle is to locate the spare.. if it's one of those donuts, I go out and buy a new full sized tire and wheel and put it somewhere easy to get to.. I have made several cross country trips and have lived alone most of my life, so I want to know I have a "real tire" I can rely on if I need it.
