Drinks

What do you drink? I used to drink Diet Pepsi almost 100% of the time. I never drank water and only had milk on my cereal. I then spent a week in the hospital. The pop machine in the commons room had just been taken out 2 days before I was admitted. My only option after that; water. I was in the psych ward, so I cried and cried and cried. I think I got over the headaches of caffeine withdrawal, because my head hurt from all the crying. lol Now I drink water 90% of the time, some sweet tea the other.

How about you? What's your beverage of choice?

nativetexan 07-14-2012 07:21 AM

I try to drink more water. my Sister drinks it like she's a fish! i tend to drink tea. either Sun tea or Snapple i buy at the store. also cranberry juice and a bit of orange juice.
sodas are bad for us. and yes you had withdrawal from them. Once in awhile i may get a soda if i buy fast food somewhere. But i dont really miss them now. so don't get back on them. good for you in your change. keep it up!!!

Lori S 07-14-2012 07:22 AM

Oh I have a big time addiction to Diet Pepsi.. I have three can down before 9 AM... I have been trying to slowing reduce my consumption . Caffeine withdrawl is painfull the headaches are just brutal. Congradulations on kicking the habit... I really know what you must have gone through.

Unfortunately I'm a coke fan(atic)....regular, NO diet, in a chilled glass, poured slowly down the side with one large piece of ice. I've gone on the wagon several times over this stuff, but it never seems to take! I drink less than 2 a day, though.
I drink iced tea with lemon and LOTS of ice, sweetened or not, and water as often as I can make myself do so.
Also beer or gin and tonic with lemon/lime occasionally.

I used to drink tea all day every day... hot in the morning and iced in the afternoon in the hot weather. I recently heard/read that the caffeine when eating causes weight gain, so after my two morning cups of tea, I switch to cold water from the fridge.

Tartan 07-14-2012 09:02 AM

I am mainly a hot tea drinker. If it's too hot for tea, mainly water. I occasionally drink a soda but not often. I figure I'd rather eat my calories than drink them.:D

tesspug 07-14-2012 09:38 AM

I drink mostly iced tea, occasionally a Coke Zero. Water when I'm feeling I should be good. In the winter hot Chai tea. I love the spices.

Joset 07-14-2012 10:02 AM

drink one diet coke a day other wise water. sometimes milk at
a meal but mostly water. and sometimes green tea with a shot of bandy in it.
good for what ails you ha ha

Neesie 07-14-2012 10:30 AM

I drink mostly water and tea (hot or cold). Juice would be third, in line. Occasionally, I'll have a cup of coffee or a nutritional beverage. Haven't had soda/pop, in ages.

Just read the post above mine, which reminded me of a yummy treat, I sometimes have! Hot chocolate, with a splash of coconut rum! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!

Stitchnripper 07-14-2012 10:41 AM

Diet Coke is my guilty pleasure. Yes, I know it isn't good for me. I can barely tolerate most liquids including the water here which is really very good. I drink some coffee in the a.m. and some green tea in the pm. And milk on my cereal. I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and I think I must be getting hydration from them.

Sunnye 07-14-2012 10:52 AM

Water and 1/2 & 1/2 coffee.

NikkiLu 07-14-2012 11:07 AM

Cherry Dr. Pepper - only one a day - not too late or the caffeine will bother my sleep

lindy-2 07-14-2012 11:46 AM

milk mostly then ice tea or juice i should drink more water but i dont. have to get in the habit. i dont realy like soft drinks so i rarly have any unless its in punch at a gettogether or something

sandilee 07-14-2012 02:36 PM

16oz of milk in morning with cereal. A bottle of water then the rest of the day I always have a glass of iced tea beside me. Love unsweet tea. "Tis the English in me!

ptquilts 07-14-2012 03:19 PM

mostly water with meals, no milk, no soda. I like unsweetened, flavored seltzer half and half with fruit juice. Soda is too darn sweet!! 10 teaspoons of sugar per can!! wow. Can't stand the taste of diet soda.

We are blessed to have wonderful well water here on our land. Best I have ever tasted.

nativetexan 07-14-2012 03:54 PM

it's funny, when we moved to Colorado I'd been drinking caffiene free sodas. When i quit, it took me about six months not to miss them!!! there must be something besides caffiene in them that is addicting!!

Quiltaddict 07-14-2012 10:12 PM

My favorite drink is iced tea, drink it year round. If I do have a soda it is usually diet Dr. Pepper.
Don't like to drink water. For breakfast I have to have milk (ice cold).

noveltyjunkie 07-14-2012 11:07 PM

Sparkling water (soda water) is my drink of choice. I buy the big bottles and have one by the bed, one in the sewing room, one in the car, one at my desk... my DH cant understand why I dont keep it in the fridge, but I like it at room temperature.
In addition to that, I generally have a milky coffee with breakfast and, where I used to have a beer after work, I try to, most days, have a herbal tea instead. (and yes I notice it on my wasitline) At parties I love sparkling white wine :-)
I never ever drink Coke or Fanta or similar things with heaps of sugar because I believe that an excess of refined sugar is very very unhealthy and that our bodies did not evolve to deal with that on an ongoing basis. I think that lots of the modern diseases we are seeing now will in time be shown to be caused at least in part by all the sugar we consume. Even juice is not something I would have undiluted- one class of apple juice has the sugar of six apples, and none of the fibre. Most of us could not even swallow six apples, yet we drink the juice and think it is great.....

As someone else said, I have a feeling that diet versions of the popular drinks will be proven in time to have more bad stuff in them than we understand now. I have spent time being addicted to Coke Zero, but I am free of it now and don't even like the taste anymore, thankfully.

burchquilts 07-15-2012 12:29 AM

Other than fabric, my one addiction (& yes, I do mean addiction)? Dr. Pepper. Not diet... the hard stuff... LOL! In a can... not ice cold but not room temp either (I used to have a friend who drank only room temp Pepsi... ugh!). I used to drink nothing but Pepsi but about 20 years ago I switched over to DP & now that's it. I try to force myself to drink some water everyday but my weaknees is my pop. I've tried to quit it but the headaches are just too brutal. Does my family give me static about my addiction? All the time. But I'm a grown-up woman & I'm fully aware of what I'm doing. Now, I see that my canis empty, so if you'll excuse me...

earthwalker 07-15-2012 12:35 AM

3 mugs of cafe latte in the morning then countless cups of strong white tea (no sugar) the rest of the day....rarely drink plain water, and pepsi (diet) 1 every couple of days.

jitkaau 07-15-2012 03:19 AM

Water and milk mostly and sometimes a non- caffeine drink which is similar to coffee in taste. Caffeine, fruit juice, soft drinks (even the diet variety) are not good for diabetes control.

jeaninmaine 07-15-2012 03:36 AM

Hot tea with milk and Sweet n' Low if I'm having anything to eat or it's cold out. Unrefrigerated bottled water with a Snapple Lemon Tea 'Singles to go' in it when I want something cold or if I'm out in the car looking for yard sales. I hate water without any flavoring in it.

nycquilter 07-15-2012 04:30 AM

I gave up soda and artificial sweeteners four years ago. Now, I drink two cups of latte (made with decaf coffee and whole, non-homogenized milk) almost ever day in the morning. I don't miss the caffeine, just like the flavor of coffee. Then I drink either water (a glass by the bed, the sewing machine, etc) or herbal teas made typically with herbs I've grown or gathered wild. I try not to use sugar, especially the overprocessed white sugar that is everywhere. If I need a sweetener (rarely), I'll use honey.

KwiltyKahy 07-15-2012 05:27 AM

COFFEE all day every day. Iced tea in the summer if I want something cold. COFFEE. I'm physically adicated and have withdrawl when I don't get enough.

I totally agree. I still miss mine and it's been since March. Manufacturers have certainly figured out how to keep people buying it.

I used to drink lots of diet Dr Pepper. Then in 2008 I was yet again rushed to the ER because I was in severe pain all over. And yet again, all the test showed nothing was wrong. The shot me up with lots of pain killers and sent me home. The pain was so bad no one could even touch me. It took me again almost two weeks to get my strength back up to go back to work. Then my DDIL sent me an email about aspartame poisening and I had so many of the symtons so I ordered the book; Sweet Poisen. I'm a hard sell on things but I had no doubt after reading that book that's what I had. I went off everything that has aspartame in it and I've never had another episode since then. It's hard to keep away from aspartame since it's in things you don't even know about; flavored Blistix, flavored Alka-Seltzer, etc. Things that don't even say they are low in sugar. I checked everything.

Now, my beverage of choice is unsweet Ice tea, I never did like sweet tea and ice water w/lemon. When I want a soda it is Dr Pepper and I go for the regular, not the diet. The good thing about drinking mostly ice water and unsweet tea besides it being better for you is that my grand kids love to drink what I drink so I feel good when I can let them do it. I don't let them have my Dr. P, too much sugar for them. For hot drinks, I like coffee, different teas with Earl Gray and Jasmine being my favorites.

If you check you'll find out that it has already been proven that the diet stuff (aspartame) already has bad stuff in it. For one it has formalcohyde (sorry for the spelling) in it, which when heated gets hard. First of all it normally always gets heated and secondly I know they'll put that in me when I die so I don't want it before hand. Check my other thread on here and you see what I put about what I went thru when drinking the diet stuff. The country that invented it won't even use it in thier own diet drinks, they use Stevia. That should tell you something. Aspartame started out being a drug used to treat ulcers until a chemist spilled some and licked it off his fingers and saw that it was sweet and wa la, we had another money maker. There are to many big companies involved to make official studies but if you read the book Sweet poisen you'll be amazed at how many people are affected and what all it can do to you and your kids.

luvstoquilt 07-15-2012 06:38 AM

I drink mostly Seltzer with lime added. I don't drink soda except once in a while if we go for burgers (that is not something we do a lot either anymore) I have 2 cups of coffee in the morning and if any is left over I have iced coffee in the afternoon during the summer. In the winter I drink hot tea in the afternoons. Milk is only for cereal here but I do try to drink a lot of water...that takes a some effort.

chips88 07-15-2012 06:46 AM

i drink hawaiian friut punch, coke, and plenty of water.

Happy Linda 07-15-2012 06:48 AM

Water, but I have to have fresh cut lemon in it. Crystal Lite Lemon and Lite Lemonade at fast food, if they have it.

teacherbailey 07-15-2012 10:18 AM

With IBS and lactose intolerance, I don't drink anything dairy or any juices (acid content!). I hate the taste of coffee and tea so basically I drink water or drinks that are mostly water, like orangeade and lemonade (but only the canned or powdered mix kind; the kind made from real lemons has too much acid for my tummy). Fortunately I like water.

Latrinka 07-15-2012 10:53 AM

Miller Lite!

Dakota Girl 07-15-2012 11:16 AM

I have to admit, that I am working on a coffee addiction, that I have had since childhood. I grew up in a Swedish family so need I say more? I have to crawl to the coffee pot in the morning. Since moving to Maryland I have discovered iced
coffee and sweet tea. Not really fond of either, especially the tea. I am trying to drink more water and love an occasional
glass of ginger ale and ice, especially in this summer heat. I have been pondering something, how did our ancestors possibly survive summer wearing all of the clothes they did, with no a/c. Corsets, petticoats, hoops and long skirts,
I guess they were made of stronger stuff than I am.

Coffe with a little milk and no sugar for the morning. I like cold drinks, diet Pepsi or 7 up in the can,(although I haven't had any lately), plain seltzer and ice tea. DH and I usually have a cup of hot tea in the afternoon but not during the hot weather. Then it's ice tea, prefer to make my own but sometime have bottle tea. Ice tea is so refreshing. I've been drinking more water, especially in restaurants. Why pay for a big glass of soda or ice tea that doesn't taste good and that you'll most likely leave unfinished. I ask for with lemon.

quiltmau 07-15-2012 12:31 PM

Coffee and more coffee- although I have cut down. Iced tea when it is hot or ice water-have to have ice water by the bed-cats and I share.
Love Irish tea with milk and honey.
Try to keep sugar to a minimum-use Splenda-not fond of Equal.

kydeb 07-15-2012 01:53 PM

I gave up drinking anything with artificial sweetener last November. I gave up sugary drinks years ago. Now I mostly drink water. Occasionally I drink unsweetened tea. I used to hate water. My taste buds have now adjusted and the last time I took a sip of a soft drink, I poured it down the drain after that sip! It tasted terrible!! I do drink coffee in the morning and have an occasional hot tea (herbal).

captlynhall 07-15-2012 04:24 PM

I drink iced tea. Have a lovely little tea pot I got at an antique store. Put one family size Lipton tea bag in and two or those little metal loose tea holders with a flavored tea. I prefer mango, apricot mango or peach, but do sometimes do current. I pour boiling water in the pot, let it steep for about 10 minutes then add it to filtered water to make a 2 qt. pitcher full. Drink it morning, noon and night. I also like plain filtered water. Have a filtered water dispenser on the refrigerator door, but also just bought a Brita filter. I like it better because the pitcher stays in the fridge and I can have a glass of really cold water at any time. Never drink coffee. Upsets my stomach. But on special occasions will have an Espresso. That doesn't bother me. Go figure. At night, I do indulge in my one Martini. Never drank milk. Even as a kid.

Annaquilts 07-15-2012 04:36 PM

water, home made tea with no sugar both hot and cold, 1 glass of milk daily and some times wine or beer

TanyaL 07-15-2012 05:00 PM

Classic Coke

EllieGirl 07-15-2012 05:07 PM

I drink water, milk, and wine. In the winter I'll drink cappuccino, I have a machine, and the coffee is decaf. I cut out sodas over 20 years ago. I too question the artificial sweeteners. Hubby drinks soda daily that are diet, but I think you just can't add artificial stuff to our foods without having some type of repercussions.
