Is green bean caserole only for Christmas? That's one of my favorites.

No - not just for Christmas. I make it all year long. You don't need an occasion for something that good!

It was the keilbasa and kulski. A dead give away even if you wrote them as noodles and sausage. hehehe

Quilt4u 04-01-2010 11:03 AM

I'm doing Baked Hunny Ham, sweet potatoes, corn with roasted red peppers,Boston baked beans, and homemade bread.

Mamagus 04-01-2010 11:08 AM

This one is easy and looks colorful on the table... Cut carrots obliquely (On a slant)... I always told my kids that that's the way the Easter Bunny eats his carrots... because they look like Easter eggs when they are sliced that way....
add a little water, a Tablespoon of butter and then some ginger (sliced or powdered... sliced is nice). Cook on a low heat while the ham is baking until the carrots are done. Easy
but a tasty dish.

Up North 04-01-2010 11:23 AM

WEll we could have hot dogs but we are going to have ham mashed potatoes or seasoned red potatoes (haven't decided)
Fruit salad, Rolls, and some kind vegetable and some kind of of pie.

Deb watkins 04-01-2010 11:30 AM

Baked ham with pineapple sauce, whipped sweet potatoes, mashed white potatoes with cheddar cheese, coleslaw, cornbread, scalloped corn bake, fresh fruit cup, wine, beer (no grass - for those of you who read the CHOOSE ONE game thread) coffee, apple pie with french vanilla ice cream, candied pecan bites. Burp - excuse me.

Boston1954 04-01-2010 11:33 AM

How about the string beans and those onion rings. They're not just for Thanksgiving. :D

Darlene 04-01-2010 01:21 PM

We are having potato salad (home made), baked ham, deviled eggs, fresh green beans and rolls. I don't know yet what for dessert maybe some kind of a pie.

Elisabrat 04-01-2010 01:25 PM

We always have a side dish of pasta :) and of course: deviled eggs, green salad, sliced fruit and a warm pineapple dish with cheddar and crackers (sounds gross but its good). Never the green beans, too many people complained of gas with that (ahhh) think its maybe the crunched onions on top? combo? anyone else have issues with the greenbean casserole dish? I think eat what your family loves to eat and is a treat vs a nightly dish.. potato salad? something that is out of the regular and instantly its a holiday special :)

OMG I am getting so hungry reading this. I have to work twelve hours so I hope they have ham in the cafe at the hospital.

A delicious and special way to make asparagus or green beans. After partially cooking (till tender/crisp) wrap small bundles of asparagus or green beans with a piece of bacon and tie the bacon on top. Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and pepper and bake till bacon is done and veggies are tender. Yummy! Also, I make a jello pretzel salad with a crushed pretzel crust (with sugar, cinnamon, butter), a cream cheese/whip cream layer, topped with strawberry jello mixed with frozen sweetened strawberries. You can make this with any flavor jello and any fruit. I also like to make a salad with mixed greens, cranberries, pecans and raspberry vinaigrette. Deviled eggs are always a hit! And for desert??? A bunny cake! Make two round layers, use one layer as the head, cut the other layer into 3 sections - a center section that is shaped like a bow tie (narrow in the center, curving wider at both edges) which leaves two ear-shaped pieces on either side. Place the bow tie section under the first round layer, the "ears" on top. Frost with white frosting, cover with coconut, decorate the face with black licorice for the whiskers and mouth, green gum drops for the eyes, a black one for the nose and pastel M & Ms for a polka dot tie! It's sooooo cute!

We are Greek, so it is Lamb, Spanikopita, rice and yougart. So I guess I am no help at all. sorry.

Honey 04-01-2010 06:38 PM

I always do baked ham, baked beans, coleslaw, fruit salad, pickled beats, scalloped potatos, deviled eggs and homemade cressants or dinner rolls. Don't forget the baby dills. Everyone here loves Gedney's. This year we are having pineapple upsidedown cake for desert. I always make homemade strudel or kolaches for Easter morning after church. Sometimes I make cinnamon rolls, too.

I make the jello pretzel also. It is wonderful. I was thinking about making it with chocolate pudding instead of jello. I think it would be very yummy....What do you think?

3incollege 04-01-2010 07:28 PM

Tink's Mom 04-01-2010 07:36 PM

I'm making ham, scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots with honey, broccoli, jello, and hawaian salad( this was a request from the boys). Dessert will be homemade cheesecake, and bunny cake.

kathyd 04-02-2010 03:27 AM

minnie, I have a recipe for a home made chocolate pudding that calls for crumbled pretzels on top. It was very yummy, you know the salty/sweet thing!
We are having turkey with orange sauce (family isn't big on ham) I'll cook it on Sat., a cheesy potato bake, broccoli salad, and angel food cake with fresh fruit and topping.
It's hard to read about all this food on Good Friday!
Oh, yeah, can't forget the deviled eggs. What else are you going to do with all those hard boiled/dyed eggs!

karielt 04-02-2010 07:21 AM

Everyone has been so helpful Thank you!

sharon b 04-02-2010 07:33 AM

After reading all this I can hardly wait for Easter

kathyd 04-02-2010 12:44 PM

I had a request for this recipe and I thought someone else might like it as well.
CHOCOLATE PUDDING
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. corn starch
Mix these together and add
2 c. cold milk
Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Remove from heat.
In a separate bowl, beat
1 egg
temper with about ½ cup of hot mixture then pour all back into hot mixture and mix well.
Stir in till melted
1/4 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
Pour into serving dishes and chill 1 hour.
This was very chocolatey so you could use a little less cocoa.

A good topping for this.
Break about ½ to ¾ cup pretzels onto baking sheet. Pour 1 tbsp. melted margarine over and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 400* for 10 min. Cool and sprinkle over chilled pudding.

I got this from the Food Network back in April 2009. One of my daughters did have trouble with the pudding setting up, I don't know why because mine was fine.

pookie ookie 04-02-2010 12:49 PM

I make a lamb shaped cake. Got the mold from my grandmother. She's been making them since before WII. The same mold can be found on ebay.

Rachel 04-02-2010 12:56 PM

Nobody is bringing Chicken and Noodles??? that's a staple at every holiday meal we have. (of course I am usually the one that makes them) and broccoli and rice casserole. Oh, someone mentioned candied yams, those are one of my favorites. Little smokies are good too. ok, I'm hungry now...
