It is so bad....I was @ the Houston Show last year & was in a booth shopping. I gave the Vendor my credit card & she looked at me real quick and her mouth dropped open & she said "Cathy! It is so wonderful to put a face to your name!" OMG I wanted that floor to open up & swallow me. DH was standing there and cleared his throat. We walked off later & he gently asked "Hon that lady sure knew you. How much shopping have you been doing online?" BUSTED! LMBO
Today we were out & I told him I wanted to run into Jo Ann's. I just wanted to grab 1 thing. And I did. 1 bolt of wide Kona Muslin. LOL Yes, I guess I really am a fabricholic. Oh well. I sure am a happy person. LOL |
Ask yourself..."Do I hide fabric?" (shame response!) Do you promise yourself that this is going to be your "last yard" but then slip and buy 10 yards of something you just can't live without? ("I can quit, I've done it a thousand times...")Do you get lightheaded when you drive by a fabric store without stopping? (Withdrawl!) When you get a new quilting magazine, do you open it and deeply inhale the ink smell? (Huffing!) Have you ever gone into your sewing room and discovered fabric that you swear you've never seen- and don't remember buying? (Blackout!)
If you answer "yes" to even one of these questions, my friend, you have a fabric monkey on your back! I'm sorry, I can only diagnose, I cannot heal this grave illness. If I ever climb over the mountain of cottons in my sewing room, maybe I can find that psycology book that I lost...and a cure! |
Ummmmm - - - - who, me?
|
I told hubby that I am going shopping in Evansville tomorrow with Funky Monkey, and he said "Are you going to Joann's?" I told him NO, going to hit the thrift stores looking for vintage sewing machines. He said, "Do not take that money that you got for selling the horse." What a poop head.

Rapture, my horse, but needing a new roof, so saving up for that. I know you like your little friend, but sock monkeys freak me out, ick. Creepy, like ventriliquit's dummys and clowns. You need to find another fabric friend. Ewwwww.....

I just started quilting and I already at risk. Yesterday, I was having a hard day at work, so I stopped by the LQS up the street just to look as a stress reliever. $90 and half hour later, my day was suddenly going much better. Thank you sale table, i have enough fabric to make 3 of my first quilt I have finished, several pattern books, to use those fabrics, and One fabric I love so much I literally had it sitting out all night just so i could look at it.
Last night showing my husband my finds, he asked if we were done buying fabric for while. I honestly could not say yes to him, I did not want to lie! |

Rationalize girl, it makes you feel good. You got something to show for it when you are done. It keeps your mind occupied. It gives you warm fuzzies when you give it away. You are exercising while doing all this cutting, sewing etc. You endorphins thank you for all the tactile feel when handling fabric. Your colors appeal to your mind/mood. You can blank out the world.
|
More symptoms:
Part of one's stash is stowed "out of plain view" of the rest of the family. One becomes a bit vague as to when it was purchased. "Oh, this piece? I've had it for a while." |

"awhile" can mean anything from 2 hours to 2 years, so you could have said yes in all honesty.[/quote]
That's my story... and I'm sticking to it! |
Another symptom:
One would rather buy fabric than go out to dinner or buy groceries. What would you like for Mother's Day, dear? Dinner or gift certificate to LQS? (Both would be nice, of course) |
my name is Susan and I am a fabricholic.
|
My name is Peggy and I'm a fabriholic
|
My name is Lynda and I am a fabricholic!! It is going to seriously get out of control now that I have a bigger place and when my son moves out I will have even more room. After all fabric and quilts take the echo out of a big spacious house and will help keep the heating bills down. That's a good reason to collect more fabric I think, really it is.

Yes, with the availability of the Internet, that has become my lifeline for a when I cannot physically get out to my neighborhood "dealers." Wanna find my house on the block to swap?? Look for the table runner hanging over the electrical lines in front of my house. We can pass bundles as you drive by.   |

I sure am a happy person. LOL I don't buy much online, but once while in Joann's, I had a BUNCH of bolts stacked on the cutting table...getting thrid and half yard cuts...honest! I saw some yummies that had been laid aside to be put away and asked to see them, to see if they would go with one of my projects at home, and two ladies behind me...laughingly yelled, "NO!" |
been there done that for sure, and still am

I am a fabricholic and I want some help in quitting. It is as expensive as drinking. Any hints to help me stop?
|
Honey you came to the wrong place for help. We are a bunch of enablers. Lol
|
Oh, how I can understand. We are in the right place apparently as we are not alone. LOL!

My name is Chris and I'm a fabriholic. I do need help and have quit buying fabric for some time b/c the buying was out of control (for me.) No, I still paid the mortgage but some of the signs were there and I have a relatively large stash. Non-quilting friends are amazed at the amount of fabric I own. My program is just stay away from stores/shops and hopefully not run out of a needed thread anytime soon b/c I 'll be up the creek without a paddle if I have to go to a fabric store. Not much willpower in my bones right now. I do know I have a problem with buying fabric just for the feeling I get from buying it. Sorry if this post brings down a pretty fun thread but that's my truth.

Hahahaha... I laughed myself silly reading this one. Are you sure you weren't describing ME? (I didn't say that... I'll deny it till I die!).
|
My name is Sharon, and I am a fabricholic......
|
And I've heard that fabric prices are about to go up very soon. Any excuse to buy more now, right?
|
Yup - you've got that quilter's pox "SABLE"
"Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy" |
My name is Linda and I'm a fabric addict too. I don't hide it. My husband just doesn't notice,I live in a little town and have to go at least 120 miles for a fabric store. But I do most of my fabric buying on-line. It is great and the shipping adds less than the cost of gas to go to the store.
|
I am so bad, that (today)on my to a funeral memorial service for a very dear uncle in southwest Michigan... I have to go right through Shipshewana,Indiana. And I am aching to find a way to get to that wonderful store on the lower level where ALL the fabrics are %5.95. I could leave in about 15 minutes and be there by 10:30 or chance it and try to make it after the services before the store closes.
Yes, (sigh) I am truly a fabricholic of the worst kind. |
