I think I need to join.

I do have some of the symptoms of an addict.

1) Spending more money than necessary
2) Bringing my purchases in "on the sly"
3) Getting cranky when I can't get a "fix"

Fiber Artist 05-05-2010 02:38 PM

Welcome to our world. But I don't have to sneak it in.

quiltinghere 05-05-2010 02:57 PM

OHHH YES and add to the list

The NEED to buy the fabric just because it's on sale and you MAY need it one day!

Quilter7x 05-05-2010 02:58 PM

Guilty of all the above!

MadQuilter 05-05-2010 03:22 PM

Oh Bear - just claim it! Don't be shy and don't be sly. Own it (figuratively and literally). You are in good company.

Welcome to the "quilted room"

I don't need to sneak my fabric in. I haven't gotten really bad yet. I can still walk into a fabric shop and not buy anything.

sarahelloyd 05-05-2010 05:33 PM

Hi, I'm a lapsed fabriholic, I only get to go to the shops to look at the moment. Still looking at and stroking the fabric is better than staying away!

sharon b 05-05-2010 05:33 PM

Joining the group  I shouldn't have to sneak it in, but ... well... my son  He just doesn't understand :? LOL

redkimba 05-05-2010 05:47 PM

My name is Redkimba & I'm a fabriholic. It's been more than 30 days since my last fabric purchase, but only because I swore off any fabric additions until I sew on the stuff that I have.

(wait - does it count if I brought home fabric from my aunt's house?) :P

I did think while I was posting my original response that fabric addiction can lead to close brushes with homicide when you force the entire family to stop at every quilt shop and wait for you to shop. Or maybe that's just me.... 8-)

fabric-holic 05-06-2010 03:31 AM

My name is Karen and I am a fabricholic too (that's why I chose it as my member ID here...lol....was that a perfect choice or what?)
I'll buy quilting fabric I like eventhough I don't need it, don't know what I'll use it for, have no room to store it, etc. I love the feel, the colors, the ideas.

sandpat 05-06-2010 04:44 AM

Yup.....yup....you are in good company here!!! I think the manufacturer's are building in a certain "smell" to the fabrics to hook us all.....its a true addicition!!..Could it be like "crackric??"

bearisgray 05-06-2010 06:53 AM

More:

4) Oh, just a quick stop won't hurt anything.
5) I can handle just a little purchase (say a FQ)
6) Other things (like housework) get ignored while playing with fabric

Pam 05-06-2010 07:16 AM

I was very proud of myself on my recent trip to Paducah for the big show. I "only" bought 14 yards of fabric, a couple of charm packs, some rulers, 10 books, several cones of thread..... wait, maybe I am one of you.......... I wondered when that happened.

raptureready 05-06-2010 08:22 AM

My cousin used to say,"I'm not an alcoholic because I don't go to meetings. I'm just a plain old drunk." Well, I used to be just a plain old fabric collector but now that I've joined this group I guess I have to admit it.

My name is Alfreda and I'm a fabriholic.

But PLEASE, please, please don't look for or find a cure.
After all, I'm only twelve steps away from buying more. LOLOLOLOLOL

I R Mousie, and I R a fabriholic, bookaholic, clothesaholic, notionsaholic...heck, I must collect and be addicted to just about any and everything except alcohol!!! :XD:
ooooh, low blow...DD just said I was going to make ppl think I was a hoarder...
um,...doesn't being a hoarder mean you are messy?
I am extremely organized. Losing extra space by the minute, but it's in order
DD, just said no, being a hoarder means you have so much stuff that it's stacked up to the ceiling with pathways into the room.
Ok, BUT...and everyone has one ;)....
I live in a very small house!
what did you expect from a mouse?
There are some spots in my house, especially the sew-cave, but it's all neatly sorted, stacked on shelves by either bundles for family/friends, or by size.
Notions are either on pegboard and all office supply stuff is in drawers.
Books are shelved etc. I know where everything is and can pick up any piece of fabic and tell you when it was bought, where, what it's called, how much there is and whether it has already been washed, dried and ironed...doth the mouse protest too much?
no comment

Pam 05-06-2010 12:05 PM

Mousie is not only a hoarder, but OCD! Hahahaa

bev195000 05-06-2010 12:09 PM

Lol know what you mean here when i am out shopping with family and friends i cannot go home without at least finding a fabric shop or a charity clothes shop for scraps of fabric if i do managed to find one it makes the day go well lol.

Melody 05-06-2010 12:21 PM

My name is Melody and I, too, am a fabricaholic. I am cautious with my hoarding...er, my stashes. They are tucked discreetly away into corners of cabinets that nobody but ME uses, and the backs of closets where only "I" go. I even have an unused drawer in my filing cabinet with neatly folded fabrics. But just to prove to my friends and family that I AM in control of this addiction, I have a tidy little drawer moderately filled with FQ's which I proudly display to them.
Am I good or what?!

quiltluvr 05-06-2010 12:36 PM

OK, it's BAD (not really!) when the online stores know you by first name!!

I have had family intervention when they have found me slumped over my machine after all night binges. I have learned the art of manipulation to get fabric in any way possible, turning my family into enabler puppets.

Yes, with the availability of the Internet, that has become my lifeline for a when I cannot physically get out to my neighborhood "dealers."

Wanna find my house on the block to swap?? Look for the table runner hanging over the electrical lines in front of my house. We can pass bundles as you drive by.
