We've had three Siberian Huskies and I do LOVE them! If I couldn't have them, I'd have German Shepards. I've posted two pictures. Will have to try to find a picture of our other one. He passed away several years back, but is still dearly missed.
Bandit - He passed away last year. Gracey - She is my beautiful spoiled baby girl! |
I now like dogs again because of Molly. She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and adores people. I was afraid of dogs for years after being badly bitten by a friend's Afghan. No one could be afraid of a Cavalier. Molly is 14 lbs of wiggly, happy love. The only thing she is aggressive with are the squirrels at DD's house who drop pine cones on her head.

Right now we have Glory, a Papillion, who is smart, opinionated, and very independent. She does follow me everywhere and has a bed in the office and in my sewing room. She is where I am. I love her dearly, but don't think I would have another one. I would love to have another yellow lab. We had Chad who was loving and protective. He was killed by a neighbor who was scared of him. I miss him and he's been dead over 15 years.

If any "breed" I would have to say hound. Any of the redbone or black and tan, ridgeback, etc. They have the best personalities. But it depends on the dog. I like each for specific reasons. Mutts mostly I have had. I have a friend who has a standard poodle that we all loved. Bostons are funny, I had a chihuahua that was the best little dog.Japanese Chins are adorable.
As the bumper sticker says. "RESCUE is my favorite breed". LOL |

We currently have 4 and another 4 fosters, but by next weekend, we will be up to 13 again- another batch coming in. My first dog was a big grey, and I loved her too. Something about these greyhounds just catch my heart. Ahh another person who has a heart dog. I had one too. A mixed something that was all black his name was Tucker. He was a foster that at the time I couldn't keep although I wanted to. Yes he is in a wonderful home. |
Golden Retrievers all the way.
|
Dobermans are the smartest and the easiest to train. I housebroke a Dobie pup in one week. they are really smart!
when my beagle and short haired german pointer are gone I am getting another Dobie. The beagle was supposed to be my DHs and she is attached to me and the Pointer was my son's. He asked me to housebreak her and then didn't want her back. I also love love love Pomeranians. I hope to have another one one day. I used to have Pommies and my DD's pom lived to be 20 yrs old. They are sweet if a bit yippy at times. |
Currently I have 2 mixes that have rescued me; one Black Lab and Great Dane, and one English Bull Terrier and who-the-heck-knows, Love them Both..
All my life, I've had mutts, but my favorite, favorite, favorite dog of all time was my beautiful German Shepherd, Britta. I still miss her - all the time. I'd have another shepherd, but probably won't while there are so many dogs waiting to be rescued... |
Australian Cattle Dogs (heelers). Have had for over 25+ years, founded and ran a rescue for 3 years and personally have 3, 2 of them being rescues. Not for everybody as they are pretty pushy but I like the independence and the intelligence of the breed.
|
I LOVE labs, but i would rather have a mutt if it had a nice personalitiy. Like the lab i have now, she is mixed with unidentifiable breeds, but she has pretty much the whole lab thing going on. I lovthe labs and doxis personalitys, one snob and ones playful. It just fits my traits.
|
Boxers for me!!
|
My DH and I will be looking at a Lab/shepherd mix at the local Sanctuary... she's just beautiful and well-behaved... He's always wanted a lab and we hear they are wonderful family pets. I'm in the love-the-mix group.. Pure breeds are great, but our best dogs (during 36 years) have been the mutts... (Don't let Libby the beagle hear me say that!!)
|
Mutts are the best. However I tend to love whatever breed I presently own and love.
Kat |
I love terriers; which is the root of the word terror, lol! Actually, they are very smart which gives them the reputation of being mischievious; loyal, and great protectors.
|
I love ALL dogs, but we are partial to beagles around here. We have four now (three of them rescued), and had two boys who have passed (one of those rescued). Their personalities are all so different, but boy are they all SMART! I sometimes think we could switch to a lazy, big dumb dog someday, but I know we never will.
Must go - Charlie is "tracking" a squirrel around the back yard... |
I wouldn't have anything except a Lhasa Apso. I have had 4 and they are so smart. Chloe in the picture to the left learned to sit up in 15 minutes. Now she does it when ever she wants something.
|
I love BOXERS!! We got ours from a rescue - he is the best dog ever. Boxers are great with kids, have great silly personalities, and are way more bark than bite!! He'd wiggle to death before he ever bit anyone. Very much family dogs, loves all things round, 'cuz that must mean it's a ball and they train easy.
|
We have 2 Jack Russel terrier mixes and they are just plain smart(the female being the leader and the smartest). Never really house trained them, they just never go potty in the house, although they are out more than in. I would like to have a soft, cuddly dog, but it won't be with the 2 that rule here now. Used to have a shitzu, and she never shed and she loved me.
|
Rescue Dobermans. We've had many over the years, from 1 to 3 at a time. All were rescued from nasty owners, and DH even stole one that was kept tied to a tree in an abandoned orchard. That one, Hilda, was the most beautiful picture perfect Dobe I've ever seen, with the brains of a cartoon blonde!!! But loving and extremely protective, as long as she remembered who was visiting family and strangers.
Kurt was rescued from a medical testing group, and was the most intelligent dog who ever lived, bar none. Then there was Hans, starving and brought to our door step and left there. Gertrude, dumped when her family moved and someone told us about her running around, begging food. 3 others, but they were old when we got them, all we could do is feed and pet them for the short time we had them. A large Doberman in the car's front seat tends to discourage anyone who wants a free ride from strangers..... |
I loved your line about her remembering who the visiting family is. Ftdefinitely sounds like a blonde. Hehe
|
German Shepherds full blooded or mix. . . Great dogs!!
|
For many years we had Kerry Blue Terriers. Didn't shed, great with kids, etc. Our last one was a Benji type dog from the pound and she was a wonderful pet.
|
Currently we have 3 furbabies. Two French bulldogs (Bere,3 and Justice, 4) and a Yorkie (Rusty, 14). Over the years we've had 3 schnauzers. But the one that stole my heart was Jake, a boxer. He was my honey-boy. He followed me everywhere. I've always said that he looked into my soul and loved me anyway. We lost him in 2007 and I still miss him greatly.
|
well I have been breeding dachshunds for years now - but I love them all - I have my dox, 2 labs , 2 west highlands and always had a golden until recent ..
|
We love our Beagles, Toby and Molly. toby was originally our sons and came to visit but never left. Molly we adopted when a lady couldn't take care of her anymore. she is a cuddler and rules the roost. We love them both.

Like you, I've loved every dog we had. Well, except one that had problems from the start and bit my son's face. Didn't love her too much.
We had a yellow lab after that incident and she was wonderful. She had a stroke and we were heart broken. After a few years we adopted a puggle from a shelter who grew so much that he looks like a mini-mastiff. Love him soooo very much that I decided that when it was his time I would be devastated so we got a second rescue - a chihuahua-terrier mix who was so skittish and fearful at first. Just love them both. |

I was wondering do you have a favorite breed or are you like me who adores the breed of the pet you have at the time? I don't think other than golden retiever I have ever had the same breed of dog twice. I've loved certain traits about each animal when I had them. I would choose to have another doxi or scotty if I was going to go purchase one, but i'm more of a mutt kinda girl. I've found some of the best dogs I've had were rescue, pound, or found. |
Labs, both black so far. Incredibly smart dogs, and so sweet. We never really had to "train" either of them. They both stayed in the yard - always, and never wandered. Neither were ever chained or fenced in. Our latest, Mack Davis, we got when he was 9 weeks old and he has NEVER (swear to God) had an accident in the house. I love all dogs, but the Labs, they are so my favorite breed.
|
I think some of our favorite dogs have been from the local
SPCA dragged home by our youngest daughter. Now we share her Malmute Husky who is a big baby. We love him but he has too much shedding. I think the nicest dogs are raised by you as a puppy and raised to mind you just as you would your children. After all they are a part of the family. We are retired and after having to put our last doggie to sleep after 15 years of enjoying her was too much for us. No more dogs of our own. Flo in NNY |
When I finished Massage Therapy School and graduated as Suma Cum Laud (I think that is the spelling!!) I decided it was time to fulfill a childhood dream and get a Rough Collie....like Lassie. We found Buddy, just 8 wks old, at a Collie Puppy Mill...I would have paid any price for him as he was extremely shy and stuck in a cage that about the size of a small animal carrier. The "farmer" that ran the mill was closing down and offered us any of the other dogs on property (there were at least 30 adult collies) for free...we took a tri-color female that was living under his house. Kasey and Buddy were/are the best dogs I have ever owned and will never consider another breed. Most people say "OMG...all that hair!" But I don't mind too much...their personalities and loyalty far outweighs the hair. We lost our beloved Kasey to kidney failure about a year ago, and haven't recovered yet...we miss her tremendously. I have check into some of the collie rescues around and considered becoming a foster parent...we just love this breed...sweetest dogs God ever made...IMHO!!
I have loved reading all these stories about other's love for their special companions...regardless of breed. Y'all make me smile!! |
Golden Retrievers and English Mastiffs. Love em both.....my grand dog is a rescued Harlequin Great Dane male named Dexter.
|
I think what ever I have at the time, too, lol! Right now we have a yellow lab and a sweet bulldog. Have had Mutts, Jack Russel Terrors, lol, golden retriever, and they were all great, with their own personalities for sure. The mutt was a Hurricane Katrina rescue, who we no nothing about except her color said Sugar. She was so smart and I LOVED her So much....but she was old when I got her and died two years later. Wish I could have had the DNA testing on her cuz we never could figure what she was. The body of a bulldog or lg. pug, with a long snout....lol. Very cute though........

I have 3 dogs, 2 boxers the older one, Harley is 10 and our first boxer, the other one is Cooper, he is 3, and finally Shamus the bulldog, he is 2 and the most spoiled. I hate to say, he is my favorite
|
Have always loved the Golden Retrievers we have had - but got tired of all the hair everywhere. My husband now has a Labradoodle and I have a Mini Goldendoodle. They have the temprament of the Golden - but they don't shed! My college age daughter has a Golden and when she brings him home for the weekend it seems like I sweep up dog hair for a whole week after he leaves. It just keeps appearing from somewhere.
|
Mine is my little Avatar, Micky, my Taco Terrier, (long hair chihuahua/fox terrier mix). He's lying on my lap and watching me type, what else could I say!!! LOL
|
I love them all!

Yellow labs - 2 have gone to the Rainbow Bridge at ages 12 and 13 and we now have a one year old who is very energetic.
Currently smitten by a new breed to us: the corgi. Can't imagine living without this wonderful breed. Truly a big dog in a small dog's body. Bar-ooo-ooo-ooo! |
