I've been reading about girliegirl's Sibiran Husky's and many people have said this is thier favorite breed.
I was wondering do you have a favorite breed or are you like me who adores the breed of the pet you have at the time? I don't think other than golden retiever I have ever had the same breed of dog twice. I've loved certain traits about each animal when I had them. I would choose to have another doxi or scotty if I was going to go purchase one, but i'm more of a mutt kinda girl. I've found some of the best dogs I've had were rescue, pound, or found. |
Same here with loving whoever is with me. My family had black labs when I was growing up. My favorite, though I've never owned one, is the Mastiff!! There have been a couple in my neighborhood. The most recent was Tonka - whenever he saw me, he'd come galloping up for a head rub.
|
I like other breeds but I will always have basset hounds. They have a reputation as lazy, slow, not terribly bright dogs but that is a huge misconception. Now I will admit that my boys have not been the brightest bulbs but the girls constantly keep me on my toes. Huggie Bear is smart as anything and she thinks through tasks. They are stubborn, clever and mischievous and absolute lovebugs. They always make me laugh with their antics.

We seem to attract strays - mainly because this area is considered a pet dumping ground I guess! I have a long hair chihuahua that I rescued and he is bonded to me for life. We also have a jack russell/fox terrier mix that we rescued. But the absolute best dog ever was one we found at a fishing pier and we had no idea what he was except all love. The vet thought he had some Basenji in him because of the way his tail curled and his rather odd bark - which didn't happen often. Unfortunately a pack of wild dogs that ran through here attacked Oscar and killed him. It broke my heart and after the two we still have cross the bridge, I doubt I will ever love another dog. I will stick with cats.
P.S. Neighbors banded together and we got rid of the wild dogs. It was rather scary for a while because they killed another dog and attacked some others. Everyone had to keep their kids inside. |
Mixed breed is my favorite. They less health problems than so-called pure breeds.

Well I have to say that I am a mutt kind of girl myself?? LOL
However...my favorite dog was a malmute husky..I had her for 13 years. I think because that is who I had at the time so she was my favorite. ) I am pretty sure she was a mix. Currently we have a Yellow lab....and an english mastiff both papered. Training the lab..was a night mare...but he is really a very goo dog now..incredibly smart....very affectionate and the perfect dog to have with kids. Fetch..loving...we can take him anywhere with us. We also have an English Mastiff. She was the easiest dog we have ever potty trained...it took about a week..(not even kidding!). But our particular dog is a nervous Nellie and very protective over our family...so we can't take her anywhere because she is scared of anyone that gets to close. LOL She doesn't attack which is really good..she just paces and makes sure to get in between strangers and us..more of an annoyance to me than anything. But everyone loves her. Once she gets to know people she is the sweetest most affectionate dog. SO I guess I am one of those..whatever I own is the best. But My DH would only every buy an English Mastiff again..he keeps trying to a dd another to our family. |
Doxies for me -- however I currently have 4 dogs listed oldest to youngest: Kiara - pointer/lab cross (inheired from daughter when she moved out), Bailey - german shorthair (pound puppy to keep the 1st one company), Chloe - daschund/pitbull cross who is the size of a basset hound (went with my sister to get a dog and this one sat in my lap the whole time so she went home with me), and a longhaired chocolate dapple mini daschund [once again went with my sister and a longhair chocolate has always been my "wish I had one so that I could name her Lady Godiva" and she was the only longhair out of the litter -- honestly I wasn't looking :) ] and I call her KC. I say I won't have any more when these are gone but you never know :)

I don't currently have a pet but if I was going to get a dog, it would be a rescue greyhound. They seem to me to be the closest thing in the dog world to a cat (elegant, laid back...)
|
We've had two beagles and and two mutts. I guess my favorite dog was my mutt. She was our first dog, had the best temperment and was very healthy. She set a high standard for the pets to follow. Our first beagle was a character with a stubborn streak and multiple health problems. I loved them both dearly and now rate dogs on the Pokey/Lucy scale. Our current dogs fall somewhere in the middle temperment-wise and at the top of the scale health-wise. I really think I could love any dog.

Great Danes! hands down
|
My Shih-tzu's have been the easiest dogs I've ever had. Their dispositions are so sweet and they've been easily trained........they're my boys!
|
I have a poodle and love her, but I had a Chesepeake and I think she was an aweseome dog. She was very protective and hated violence of any kind. She wouldn't even let people spank their kids around her.
|
My favorite is Boston Terriers!! I always thought of myself as a big dog person, we had a German Shepard growing up that I adored! But an ex-bf had heard me talk about how cute I thought bostons were and surprised me with a puppy!! My little Austin the Boston!! Then I got Abbie and I have a feeling that I'm gonna be a Boston girl from now on.....I love pretty much all dogs though, well all pets in general! If I was going to get another dog though I think I might like to have a pug or a French bulldog!

Right now we have 3 dogs that are ours and one that belongs to the son. She is going home to ID with him in NOV.
The three are a rescue pomerainian. He is mine and is stuck to me when im home. Dolly is the husky/aussie cattle dog mix. I call her bonehead because she has a stubborn streak and will not listen when she doesn't want to. Then there is Splash (Echo's Angel) purbread Austrailan Shepard. She picked us one weekend when friends we were visiting had a litter of pups that were about 3 months old. She attatched herself to my husband and me all weekend and she came home with us. |
We had Scotties, three of them but one at a time. They were all named Whiskers. We are very original! They were sweet dogs and I loved them, but they were stubborn as mules and not the brightest ones around. The last one was run over by DS's 16 year old friend about 30 years ago. She was 14, deaf and nearly blind.

At the moment we have a Doberman and a Silkie. Both are rescues. Both are good dogs, but have their baggage from their former lives.
But my heart belongs to German Shepherds. We used to breed them and in my humble opinion they are just the perfect dog. They are smart and can be taught anything you want. When we had puppies they all went to their new homes potty trained and knowing how to sit and stay. That was at eight weeks. The reason we don't have a shepherd at the moment is because my husband was devastated when we lost his male dog, Kitty. He was thirteen and it was time, but it still hurt like heck. My husband wanted to try a different breed and we found Duke at the pound. Duke is a great dog, but just not a shepherd. We got Lucy the Silkie only because she needed a good stable home. She was one of 70+ dogs that were taken away from a hoarder. She is not the smartest dog but she is a happy girl. |
I guess I like them all! I never thought of myself as a dog person until about 4 yrs ago when we got my daughter a Papillion (she has become one of my best friends). Since then we have added an Australian Shepherd who found us, an old, old Lhaso Apso, a Great Pyrenese, and two adorable Yorkies. I had always been a cat person (and still am), but have definitley added dogs to my loves.

I love labs, but don't know that I will ever own another. We have 2 now that are getting very old (12 and 13). They are very intelligent and great with the family, but training them is a royal pain - they just want to play- still! My old girl never did learn how to behave on a leash. We also have a St. Bernard. He's just over 1 year old. It took me about 10 minutes to teach him how to heal... now if we could just cure the selective hearing! I absolutely adore this dog - he is massive, but the laziest darned mutt ever. He enjoys his walks and chases the kids a few minutes each day, then naps the rest of the time.

My favorite breed is whatever one I have!
|
My heart belongs to the one I have! West Highland Terrier. Her name is Maggie Mae.
|
Hands down German Rotties, They are loyal and smart and very protective. They have personality to spare.
I have 2 and the female is due with puppies Oct. 20th I'll keep one of them also. |
Love my dachshund. He's my best friend and I'm am always glad he is part of my family.
|
Newfoundlands with out a doubt. Have 4 now 3 girls and 1 boy. such babies
|
Beagles here, then again, that's all we've ever owned. They can be a pain when they catch a scent.
|
Favorite: Siberians hands down. A certain Sib/wolfdog still has my heart and she's been gone 6 years.
Current: Liliana Grace - Siberian Husky/Shiba Inu/Malamute, starting to relax enough to act like a Sib after being here four years. Moira Mae - Border Collie/Lab, a very smart little dog. Both pound dogs. |
We have 2 little Shetland Sheepdogs that we adore!
|
I love Saint Bernards ! Big ... Fuzzy ... and truly gentle giants.
|
Obviously german shorthair pointers :-) I had a yellow lab growing up. Those would be my second favorite
|
We love shetland sheepdogs. Our first came from a neighbor breeder, our second came from a kennel as a showdog reject, and our third one was a rescue. Wonderful personalities.
|
I like my black mouth cur! Same as Ole Yeller. Also dachshunds and dalmatians. (although I do not recommend dals for families with small children)
|
We have a Choc Lab- Pella (my baby) and a Shitzu/West Highland Terrier Mix - Abby. They are both great dogs. The lab is very devoted and the little mixed one is a eye contact dog - she has a way of getting your attention with her eyes.

I can't say that there are any that I like better than another; there are some that because of my experiences with them give me fond memories. I do have some that I don't care for and since that's my personal feelings I'm not listing the ones that I don't care for. I also don't have to have a purebred as some people do; there are alot of heinz 57 ones that are great. Right now I have a small american eskimo and my son's large akita. I love them both and they bring so many different experiences to my life; kind of like my 5 kids; all my kids but all so very different.

I just love the ones I'm with! I can't pick a favorite. I would definitely have Pekingese again. I call Molly my catdog because she is so mellow and independent. She comes to me for love when she wants it and otherwise amuses herself. I don't know if I'll have a Yorkie again, though. It could just be mine, but he is very dependent and anxious (I love him, of course, but hate for him to get upset so easily)...something I've never encountered with my other dogs, so I don't think I "spoiled" him? I grew up with a German shepherd, Siberian Husky (until we had to find a new home for her...horrible neighbor boys taunted and threw things at her and my parents became afraid she might "get" one if she ever got a chance :(), mutts, Chows. We love animals in our family and there is always a variety milling around at holiday time. Fortunately, most get along well!
|
I love what ever breed I have at the time. Many were mixed breeds and I loved every dog in there. Dogs give unconditional love and need it back.
|
We've always had larger dog breeds growing up and as an adult myself. So we're pretty much partial to boxers I love their temperament they are wonderful with small children and protective as well. The other dogs we had were German Shepherds and Dalmations
|
Stuffed...no poop to pick up
|
We easily fall in love with dogs needing homes/families. I grew up with Collies; have always had a yellow lab mix and dearly love the 4 Yorkies that have owned us over the last 40 years.
|
We rescue Italian Greyhounds. Quirky little things, but such cuddlers. My hazeljane (now deceased) was my heart dog. Now my little Lefty is- 7 pounds of silly in a white and red pied body.
We currently have 4 and another 4 fosters, but by next weekend, we will be up to 13 again- another batch coming in. My first dog was a big grey, and I loved her too. Something about these greyhounds just catch my heart. |
Old English Sheepdogs are wonderful. Was lucky enough to have two; Sophie and Maggie. Oh, the grooming. Also had a Bassett Hound, Beauregard who shed more than my two OESD's together. Now I have Stitches, a mixed breed, blonde shaggy boy who has terrier and maybe Lhasa in him. He's the love of my life and will turn 17 on Saturday.
