Most of my grandkids, great grandkids call me Nanny Judy, but when my only daughter got pregnant she wanted her kids to call me GiGi, now her kids, my youngest son's kids, and even my 2nd to oldest son, (who has a grown son that calls me Nanny),my son now has two small kids and he has them both calling me GiGi, so that's great.

I always said, whatever they want to call me. I really didn't care. The First Born Grand Son, yes he gets caps! Started calling me DeDe??? Now where he got that I have no idea. But our neighbor Diane wanted him to call her DeDe also but no way. Apparently I am the one and only LOL. Now all the grandkids call me DeDe. Yea, my name is Jane!!

I had grandma's and grandpa's. Our grandkids call us Nana and Papa. They have lots of grandparents and I wanted them to know immediately who was talking to them or if someone referenced us they knew right away who we were...no confusion. I LOVE being a NANA!!!!

My grandkids and step-grandkids have so many grandparents, most of whom see them regularly, so its a confusing mess. I am called Grandma "Brown" by most of the kids, but my DH's ex-wife from 30 years ago decided to take his last name back, even though she had been married and divorced since. So she, being the grandkids "blood" grandma, took the name Grandma "Brown". So I have to be called something else that doesn't flow well. Irritated? Not much.
Funny, with so many blended families and non-traditional arrangements. We can get in the sad game of trying to "Out-Grandma" each other if we have a competitive streak, can't we?

My mom and step-dad couldn't wait to be called Grandma and Grandpa. That's how we taught the kids. But like others have said....kids put their own spin on it. My son ended up with Grammers and Grampers, and my daughter (much to the chagrin of my very young mother), called them Granny and Grandpa.

:)

My Maternal Grandparents were "Bestefar and Bestemor". (Scandinavian) My Grandchildren had loads of Grandparents and Great Grandparents, so they said "Grandma Mary" and "Grandpa John" etc. one exception was their Great-Great Grandma. She was "Granny" but that's what everyone in town called her, so it came naturally.
