Thinking I may lose my mind today..oops to late its already gone!
Mail order drug company calls Monday and tell me that the name brand is NOT avalible, but they can send generic, I tell them we get generic all the time. then they call on Thursday to say one med is not available in generic until the 30th (have enough until next tu...esday) but, they can send name brand. Generic is $25.00 for 3 month supply, name brand is $3,178.06 for 3 month supply, do you want us to send it? Not NO but, Hell NO. Have to call the Doctor and get them to phone it in to the drug store to get generic.

Sadiemae 03-18-2011 07:27 AM

A little expensive, don't you think!!!

Grama Lehr 03-18-2011 07:30 AM

GEEZE!! I wonder why there is such a HUGE mark up???

amandasgramma 03-18-2011 07:33 AM

I see the same markup on some of my meds. Rediculous. I get Advair....costs almost $200. a month. Went to Mexico...got 3 months supply for $6.00!!!!!!!!! and yes, it's the SAME thing!

BETTY62 03-18-2011 07:40 AM

I feel for you. I hate it that we have to use mail order to get medicine when the drug store is just down the street. But, with the price difference what real choice do we have.

That is such a rip off! I hate these drug companies. There is no reason they need to mark up 300-400%, it is outlandish!!!

Advair!! We get it from Canadian source at $31.00 each. Still better than the $200 they want here!!! Wish I could mail to Mexico!!!

emerald46 03-18-2011 08:34 AM

We had friends' parents several years ago who went to Mexico like 4 times a year to buy drugs for themselves and friends. Same containers, same everything, could not bleieve how much money they saved. Drug companies are making a fortune on anyone with chronic problems needing drugs or supplies.

terri bb 03-18-2011 08:35 AM

yup yup things are so expensive anymore!! had to let son's healthy connections drop so that the job corps he wants in to this summer will accept his application...its in toppenish and if you are on the idaho healthy connections you can only go to the one in idaho which does not offer the courses he wants to take...and omG ritalin is expensive even the generic!!

blossom808 03-18-2011 08:39 AM

DANG, Sorry for your misshap.

What do they think!! your Bill Gates!!!

ptquilts 03-18-2011 09:10 AM

drugs are so expensive here BECAUSE they are so cheap every where else. The poor drug companies have to make their profits somewhere.
Call or write your representatives and tell them you are tired of big drug companies writing policy in this country. We could be just like Canada and have cheaper drug prices but the reps won't vote it in because they are getting BIG campaign contributions from the drug companies. So they do what is best for the drug companies instead of what is best for their constituents.

Well, next time you go to Mexico, feel free to pick me up a good supply! My cost after insurance is 54 a month. Sometimes they have the Advair 50.00 coupons available, but not very often I am finding out. Walmart says as soon as they get them in, the supply is gone in no time.

We have the option through our insurance to go through an online site. after reading this post, I think I will stick to standing in the long lines at Walmart and wait.

Japonica 03-18-2011 10:07 AM

And we wonder why our health care costs are so high. Who is "policing" these companies?????? NO ONE!!!!

nativetexan 03-18-2011 10:43 AM

I know, my friend in England can't believe the costs of medications here. i have insurance and it costs enough with that helping. no way could i afford my meds without it.

mythreesuns 03-19-2011 05:38 AM

My DSIL pays 160 a month for her Plavix...and it is something she really must take. She had a heart attack at the age of 46. So..it is 100% needed.

CarrieAnne 03-19-2011 05:45 AM

Wow, WHO can afford the regular drugs at that price? Thats horrible!

catrancher 03-19-2011 06:01 AM

Don't get me started.

LindaJR 03-19-2011 06:04 AM

"Generic is $25.00 for 3 month supply, name brand is $3,178.06 for 3 month supply, do you want us to send it?"

O K let's assume they had to make the call to let you know they were out of the generic, but come on, to ask such a stupid question? Just makes one wonder if people really think before they speak. I can see if they made a joke out of the question, but I am guessing they were serious.

hheelleenn 03-19-2011 06:06 AM

I feel your pain. I have M.S. and ONE drug that I take is over 3.000 a month (injectable) and another I take for acid reflux is over 1,000 for 3 months. Without insurance I'd REALLY have to suffer.

emsgranny 03-19-2011 06:08 AM

This is one area that needs more regulation!! There should be a cap on markup. I know I have great insurance my copay for my injections is 35.00 (they dont make generic) They always list the cost which is right at 3600. of course the insurance company is then billed for the difference of my copay and cost. And we wonder why our insurance rates keep going up !!!

Dont even get me started on the Medicare prescription plan - I qualify for it but choose to buy my own insurance. How do they expect anyone to afford drugs they desperately need. All I can say is the legislatures probably have not run into this or have a family member with a chronic illness. Of course their insurance is the best to be had and at the cheapest rate!!! Thanks Hiliary

hheelleenn 03-19-2011 06:17 AM

I find, that If I HAVE to take a drug for months or permanently that if I contact the drug company patient assistance program (they ALL have one) and just ask them to cover my copay they will. You ask. you get (MOST of the time)

catmcclure 03-19-2011 06:23 AM

I'm a Kaiser Permanente patient. It's the greatest plan in the world IMHO. I pay $20 copay for office visits, $50 for ER visits, $250 for hospital stays, and $20 for generic 3 month prescriptions. I can get some of the generics at WalMart for $10 for a 3 month supply, but it would be a hassle to go out of KP with written prescriptions.

quilter sue 03-19-2011 06:36 AM

From past experience, you must be dealing with right source!!!

LindaJR 03-19-2011 06:38 AM

My thing is that Obama's insurance bill should have been approached on fixing the insurance companies. They are what is wrong with the whole helath care problem, but I do not want nation health insurance I just want regulations put on insurance companies and medical manufactureres of meds and other health care products.

thequiltmama 03-19-2011 06:41 AM

Wow, that is crazy expensive :)

AliceQ 03-19-2011 06:48 AM

My dad has cancer. His Dr gave him a prescription. He took it to the pharmacy and was told it would be $10,000! The last offer they (Mom and Dad) got was $2,000, but that's still way too much. Dad says 'forget it, I'm 82 and lived a good life'.

steelecg 03-19-2011 06:48 AM

Just remember - we have the best congress anyone Buy

seamstome 03-19-2011 06:53 AM

Sounds like a scam to me. I would call customer service at that company and at your insurance company. These companies bid to get the contracts and know how much they will need.

Wendy Keys 03-19-2011 07:04 AM

My HMO is constantly trying to get me to do the mail order thing and I won't because of this very situation! I get one med through mail order and that's it. I would have said "only if YOU are willing to pay for it"! My answer would have been the saem as yours.

llcathey 03-19-2011 08:18 AM

wow thats expensive, wouldn't want it either

One of my sisters did that for years. Said that there was a long line of seniors going over there every day she was there. I believe that from the place she vacationed in Arizona had tour buses leaving almost daily.

BellaBoo 03-19-2011 08:24 AM

The US drug companies research all the meds. No laws to research meds in most countries. Canada and Mexico do not research medicines. No research no high cost to pass on. They use US research info. If US didn't require drug testing our prices would be super low and we would all be going to many more funerals.

Because no one else is making anything like it.
Because their patents have not run out.

Many years ago one of my daughters used to pay over $80.oo for a bottle of her ulcer meds. Right after that it went off patent and she could pick it up in the drug store shelves for a little over 14.00 bucks.

lillybeck 03-19-2011 08:45 AM

I spend between 6 and 700 dollars evry three months for meds and that is using all the generics I can. I certainly understand the Advair cost and I add the that combivent, 2 types of insulin, and many others. some with highn co pays and some with none until I get to the gap. I cannot stay well so add onto that the doc visits and antibiotics etc that you need on top of it all. I cannot figure out the high cost. I just never thought I would have to make the choice of paying bills and buying groceries or getting meds.

Tweety2911 03-19-2011 10:55 AM

How awful is that!!! I have the same problem with my mailorder Pharmacy. Don't have a choice of who to use and they constantly change the approved medications to non-approved.

chris_quilts 03-19-2011 01:09 PM

While we're talking about health insurance companies and drugs, let's also talk about SSDI and Medicare. You can disenroll from both Social Seucirty disability income or insurance, SSDI, and Medicare Part B if you don't like the price of Part b and you have a JOB that pays enough in wages but you're stuck having Medicare Part a for another 98 months past termination of Part B. DH's health insurance says that for me to have his insurance, I have to have both A & B, just can't have Part A which is all I have now. DH's insurance company calls me "a non-insurable entity" - gotta love that label!!! Have spent the last 6 months fighting this. Went to SSA yesterday to talk to real people & the 2nd lady told me I was stuck in the disability system at Social Security. I can either pay for Part B for the rest of my life and get DH's insurance coverage, I can wait until Part a expires in Aug 2016 and then get his health insurance coverage or I can die at which time I assume both expire since I am also expired. I am so stinkin' mad it ain't funny and have decided that I'll wait until Aug 2016 to get health insurance. What a ridiculous situation and the idiots at SSA don't have a clue and talk to me like I'm an imbecilic idiot. Am going to see a supervisor on Monday with DH - we hope he can understand the situation. I am a disabled vet so have some healthcare coverage through the VA. Sorry for the long post and venting about the system but it is very frustrating and on-going.

I don't understand - I thought mail order was less expensive than getting meds from a pharmacy? Under my plan I get 3 months for the same co-pay I would pay for 2 months at the pharmacy. I prefer mail-order. No long waits in the very long lines at the local pharmacy.

some states-(maybe all?) mandate that pharmacies fill a prescription with a generic unless the doctor states "no substitution" on the prescription form. This is supposed to save people money. You just have to make sure the Dr. puts the statement on the slip if you don't want anything but brand name drugs.

fktsewing 03-19-2011 02:03 PM

that would be the last time I do business with that mail order drug company. Sounds like a huge scam to me.
