Somehow everyone gravitates to my studio regardless if they sew or not. They always tell me it feels homey and comfortable, and they always want to see what ever project I am working on. I admit that most of my projects are sewing machines but they are always wanting to see them. Heck I have even had my Hot Rodding buddies bring by their other friends and business associates just to see the "old sewing machines". I let them play on my central treadle and its always a hit, then tell them about my machines and some history behind them.

But the most popular items that they like the best.........the repaints that I am working on and the custom paint jobs I am putting out.

Now that I'm upstairs in a larger room (which is rapidly becoming too small - go figure!) I tend to keep it neater. It's easier, because I do have places for nearly everything. However, when I'm in the midst of a project - especially a scrapbooking one - it's generally pretty messy.

I am one that doesn't like to have too many projects going at one time, I usually only have 2 or 3 at most. My current list is dd's d9p that is being quilted (no long arm, I'm doing it on my Singer, not a stitch in the ditch, but close - a decorative stitch) and a whole cloth panel of a train scene I'm doing for my father. I have fabric out to make a bed skirt to go with our king size quilt, and the fabric out for a wall hanging, that I will start as soon as I finish dd's quilt. The one for my father is going slowly, deliberately.

I may take a break after dd's quilt to do a scrapbook of my Paris trip. It won't be that difficult, since we were only there for 4 days.

And yes, friends are invited in here, no matter how messy. Most of my friends are crafters/quilters anyhow, and they understand :)

BUT ALL THE EXCESS IS NOW IN THE HALLWAY, THE LIVING ROOM AND MY BEDROOM!!!!![/quote]

Uh huh. THIS is how I clean too. The studio is almost finished with its semi-annual "I have to sort this out" event but the guest room has taken the brunt of it this go round. Sigh. :-P

My sewing room is the smallest of the bedrooms, it usually is a mess. When people are coming over and I have no time to straighten things up, my coffee table and bar are catch alls for paperwork, mail etc., it all goes in the sewing room. Rest of the house is presentable.

My sewing room is also my dining room. Although we seldom ate at the table (it's just my DH and me) I have to keep the space a bit uncluttered/organized so when people come over it doesn't look like a storm just hit the room. All my friends know I sew/quilt so it's not a big surprise when they walk in the house and see my sewing stuff right there in the dining room. A girls gata' do what a girls gotta do...right?!

NO!! That's my space and would look like a bomb dropped to others. BUT----I can put my hand on everything and KNOW when things have been moved.

my machine is in my bedroom . guest room closet full of fabric and supplies and I cut on the dining room table. My friends know I have gotten really into quilting and that is what it is........ as I tell the kids. "It keeps me off the streets at night"

My Brother converted my stand alone single car garage into a sewing room for me and I am a clutter. I call it my studio. He laughs at that. But anyone is welcome out there with me, cause if you want to see/talk to me that is usually where I am on the weekends and I also let my dogs come in and spend time with me in there. They just come in and sleep on the floor and I have to walk around them, but I love having them in there with me. One will grow to be about 100 pounds, the other is 50 lbs then there is the 30 pounder and then the two little 10 pounder. But I usually only have three in there at a time the two little ones are in the house. The 30 pounder will drive my Mom crazy to get out to the studio to be with me, so that is where she stays.
