I used to love to read all the new happenings while having my coffee in the morning....sometimes I'd come back in the afternoon and read the rest. Now, I just look at the links. Everything else is too cumbersome to me. Still don't know how to post new but that doesn't matter because it's too much to remember all the new things. I'm sure the new site is wonderful for those who take the time to learn it. I just enjoyed the simple style of the previous site.

it suits me more than it did. the tips here will help me. i am holding the ggs so am not getting to press the caps button

I do not like it. I am very computer oriented (not a techie)and have never had such a hard time with a site. I am hardlly on here anymore and only check in with a certain PDA of sorts and do an occasional SEARCh for a subject. Otherwise, I am not on here. I used to spend my time eating breakfast and checking in on folks and new subjects. I would occasionally post something and get a laugh or two. I would check in in the evenings and go to bed. If I couldn't sleep, I was on here. At one time, I was in the top 25 posters. Not anymore.
My college website from last semester was pretty good but needed improvement. Without telling staff, the first day of fall semester they went to a new format. WoW! Shock, but by the enf of the first couple of days, most everyone was really glad for the changes and was finding their way around quite easily.
Wish I could say the same for this new format. No longer draws me to want to look and see what is going on. Not the same appeal for me. Maybe in few months...

But please, could you just list the improved features so that I can try and figure them out. TIA

STOP!!!!! So many people are expressing sentiments like this. It makes me feel like I am in a cult or something. (I'm afraid I am feeling the same way about lots of the messages which go along these lines "I don't like the new site but I want to thank everyone for making it better.")

It is OK to have your own view. I miss the old site too. And it really bothers me the way we have dealt with it as a community. So many people feel they have to make excuses for what is perfectly natural- we miss the good stuff that we used to enjoy so much. And there has been no acknowledgement from the powers that run this place that they took that away from us with next to no prior warning, and pretty much no sympathy.

It I'm liking it more and more. Also, there is a line up top of the thread on the right that if you click on will bring you to the first unread comment, I believe. it says "view first unread"

Well I know I am definitely in the monority, but I have never once felt the need to have a personal blog, I just log on to see what others have posted about quilting, save some pics and tips and laugh over Ditters humorous posts. What does one do with a personal blog? It may be my age showing :) and I do plead ignorance on the subject, oh and I have not tweeted or face booked either. I realize I am in the stone age as far as computer knowledge is concerned, but would like to know what the big "wow" factor is all about regarding blogs etc. TIA for taking the time to enlighten me. I can see if you are doing a tutorial that being able to add 10 pics would be nice.

Also I find less interesting threads even when I find a new one. maybe I am burned out and am sorry but I miss the friendly back and forth of easy conversation about quilting on an easy to use site I could go on and see in almost a glance what appeals to me. Maybe if I don't look for a month after the holidays I will try again and be pleasantly surprised? If anyone has a cheerful word or reply to me I'd appreciate it.

I'm getting better acquainted with the site but I think I'm in your court on this: I miss the friendly back and forth of easy conversation about quilting on an easy to use site I could go on and see in almost a glance what appeals to me.

It's a bother to have to scroll thru many pages to find new listings.

I agree, I still miss Unread Topics.

ptquilts 12-01-2011 05:45 PM

I have never accessed the board except by going to the actual website, so a lot of the changes are not apparent to me.

It does seem there are fewer new topics on here, and fewer comments being posted. Not as much change from, say, the morning to the evening, as there used to be.

I walk away often---used to spend hours here....and learned so much. I was comfortable, excited, interested...now it's a chore..and I miss unread topics. Guess I'm just an old F - - - that doesn't like change

I like to think of all this change , like a pair of favorite shoes. When they are new, you have to break them in , get use to them , then they fit perfect , feel wonderful ,everything is awesome. Then one day the shoes are old and breaking down you know that soon they will have to be replaced UGH ..... so you give in and get the new shoes - now you have to start all over again breaking them in and getting use to them , but just as before soon they will be comfortable and you will be loving them :)

I came on board just after this new format started; had found this site about a couple of months before that but just was a "lurker." I'm finding my way around pretty good and just want to send a "cheerful" encouragment to you. All of you people have taught me SO much and I'm inspired regularly by what I see others do. Change in life is something we have no control over; being flexible and willing to change does take work. I hope after the busy holidays you'll have a better experience with it. Without this site, I doubt I would ever have learned or attempted a quilt. After the holidays, I CANNOT wait to start my 2nd quilt. Hope things work out for you!

Sadly I've about reached this point, too. I've tried very hard to be patient til I could find my way around but it's become so tedious I just give up. That's sad for me since this board has been very important to me. Now I spend more time at my sew. machine so it isn't all bad. LOL.

Like everything else, it takes a little time to get used to. Change is sometimes hard.

CoventryUK 12-02-2011 01:32 AM

I still come here on a regular basis but it just doesn't 'feel' the same somehow! I have become more of a 'lurker' than a 'regular' like I was on the old site! I miss the 'banter' between us we used to have!! It all seems a bit 'controlled' and clinical now!! Perhaps it's just me!!!!:(

patchsamkim 12-02-2011 05:07 AM

Still learning it, but liking it better all the time.

katastrofy1967 12-02-2011 08:50 AM

I think that what it come down to is change, I for one do not like change and am a creature of habit. My first instinct to any sort of change in my routine or my environment is that it bad or I don't like it. But because I recognize this trait in myself I have to step back and ask myself if it is truly bad or is it me not liking the change. In this case I think it s is me not liking change, because or the most part the changes have been for the benefit of the site and us quilters and I for one appreciate the time and effort that was put forth by the moderators and programers. It takes a lot of time, effort and certainly A LOT of frustration to try to make so many people happy. Only to know in the end that you will fail. Because we all know you can NEVER make everyone happy. So I for one am satisfied with how everything has turned out. I am sure there will be some tweaking here and there to try and satisfy everyone, but I think it is a great effort put forth. GREAT JOB FOLKS!

How I Feel About the New Site

I agree. On the old site, everything was new every day and you didn't have to wonder if you had previously read something. Scrolling through today, I found lots of posts that were alrerady there yesterday, most of which I had read.

Wanabee Quiltin 12-02-2011 04:35 PM

I love change, always have and always will. Does that mean I love the new board? Nope, sure don't. Found the old one easier to see at a glance what I wanted. I have not given up, but I don't like this new format.

sylviasmom 12-02-2011 04:48 PM

raptureready 12-02-2011 04:58 PM

I can't say that I love it but I'm slowly getting a little more used to it.

A fairly good analogy - IF the shoes get comfortable in a short period of time! (like half an hour)

I learned a long time ago - if they (new shoes) are uncomfortable and don't fit properly when I buy them- wearing them is only going to give me blisters and sore feet!

And it doesn't matter if the shoes are expensive or cheap! (I bought two pairs about five years ago that I "thought" were properly fitted - the sales rep convinced me that they were "right" - dumb me!!! - this was from a store that "specialized" in fitting problem feet) I KNEW better - hate it when I don't follow my first response!

As far as I know, the moderators had no voice or choice in the change to the new format. I think they have some input for some modifications, but I think the basic choices were "like it, learn to live with it, or leave it"

I am in the "trying to learn to live with it" category.

angel222 12-03-2011 05:57 PM

I dont like it at all am so sad that they did this I dont look forward to reading it like I did

vickig626 12-04-2011 06:52 AM

Well, I tried to post to a thread about the quilting reality show idea but it wouldn't post - kept getting a pop-up saying "Leave page" or "cancel". Hit cancel and try to post --- same thing.....tried several times then gave up. I'm barely posting now as it is...then this happens. I see myself slowly leaving this site which I will truly miss because I've enjoyed this site for so long. I just don't have time to figure all this stuff out. I'm sure by the time I do, it will change again.

So, I will just be a lurker from now on. All this learning is just too time-consuming for me.

Ok I think I can help you with that. It took me a while too. Hit leave page and it will post. I have no idea why or who thought it up and why but that's what it does.
I know I am spending more time sewing. Maybe that's a good thing. And yes I too miss the easy back and forth from before but I think part of that is just people learning to use the new board. I do know there are a lot more posts being removed/moved or so it seems to me. Me I didn't use the diary before and won't use the blog now. If I want a blog I would set one up and have my own rules on what I can write about. I hope everything settles down soon and it gets back to being the place I come to have my coffee with friends like before. :-)

I have a Mac and my wording turns magenta after I have read them. They are green before. Barny

the new site is different.
it isn't perfect. neither was the old one.

it's been a month.
constructive, thoughtful suggestions are always welcome. just send me a pm.

if individuals prefer to cling stubbornly to unhappiness, that's their prerogative. but to still waste time and energy posting complaints just for the sake of complaining is pointless.
