Now, I don't have one myself, but I noticed alot of quilters here and others I know have at least one cat. Would you say 75% does? Is that too high?

katz_n_kwiltz 10-29-2011 09:36 AM

....or 3?
cupcake, rocky road and muffin,
yes there was a theme going on, all our animals were named after food, imagine that, then we had a dog named peaches, she was a black chow, but we have broken away from that, and our new dog is hairy...lol

I like cats in pictures, but I'm a dog lover, so it's no for me. 2 dogs here. I would say no more than 40% of quilters are cat guardians.

Dolphyngyrl 10-29-2011 09:38 AM

probaby close, some have dogs, and some have both, I think more have cats though from what I have seen

Jennifer22206 10-29-2011 09:39 AM

I don't know. I have a dog and a hermit crab. :)

MadQuilter 10-29-2011 09:40 AM

Well, we have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The kitty boys are not that interested in my actual quilting when I work(which is good, because I don't want the risk of them swallowing thread or needles) BUT when I audition quilt layouts they are in the middle of things. From experience I can tell that when they show no interest, it's not a good plan. When they are all over it - I go with it! Funny, huh?

pheasantduster 10-29-2011 09:41 AM

We had two great cats, but our white cat (Cuddles) always found my sewing project to 'snuggle' into. I bet she would love my current quilt! I miss her as well as her pal Lucky. We got Lucky on a Friday the 13th!

Missysgottohelp 10-29-2011 09:42 AM

I have 2 Sierra and Missy and only one wants to help me quilt.

thequilterslink 10-29-2011 09:44 AM

I have cats and they love quilts. My avatar is Muggy, he and his brother Sunny mug me every morning for treats.

QuiltnNan 10-29-2011 09:48 AM

does a stuffed toy cat count? i'm allergic to live cats.

zipit 10-29-2011 09:49 AM

I inherited two. I wasn't a cat person until then.

nancylee 10-29-2011 09:52 AM

Joy, that is so nice of you!! I inherited my first cat, too, my family didn't like cats, only dogs. Now I do dog rescue and have a cat!!

Rebecca VLQ 10-29-2011 09:52 AM

Me! I have one! :D He's awesome.

Dollysquiltingmom 10-29-2011 09:53 AM

I have 3 cats, Princess, Mia and Taz. My avatar is of my Dolly, she passed away in June.

twixbar 10-29-2011 09:54 AM

I have one cat and a parrot.

dd 10-29-2011 09:56 AM

I have 2. Big fluffy, calico Yenko, she likes to leave evidence of her where abouts and sleek gray tiger, Tater, loves my quilts. He normally gets to use them before anyone else does.

wvdek 10-29-2011 09:58 AM

...or 13! My DD has 6 inside (some are in/out but spend the night in) and 7 out that never come in the house. She even heats the garage for them during the cold months. She counts them every night before bedtime. If anyone is missing, she calls and looks for them before going to bed.
They all have such different personalities, or one is prettier than the rest, or sweeter than the rest. They are her kids.
No grandbabies coming from her.

Well, there were a few things other than the 2 cats...
a black lab
a samoyed
a 12 year old rooster that thought he was a dog since he hung out with them
4 doves
and then the 4 goats

A goat, the lab and rooster are now at Rainbow Bridge and we found good homes for the rest of the goats and the doves.

I would like to get the samoyed a brother or sister but for now we share her living arrangements with BIL and SIL since they have her brother. They enjoy being with each other and swapping houses back and forth. It's a great arrangement since we all are on the go.

Once we move, she'll need a companion though she's getting up there in years and is beginning to have a difficult time getting around.

Me too. grew up with dogs..hated cats until my niece had to give up her cat that she had for 10 yrs...It was either Aunt K plse take Tiffany (all white with one yellow, one green eye) or she has to go to the pound...Sucker...took her not liking cats, fell in love and had her for 8 additional yrs..We then took in a stray Ms. Big when she was approx 2 yrs old (her photo on avatar) she's now 19 and rules the hse...Anything for Ms Big.

mayme 10-29-2011 10:38 AM

I have one. Probably would get another but they
are expensive to have. I do love them. I'm not a dog person but if I were and lived in the country, I'd have a Golden.

susie-susie-susie 10-29-2011 10:47 AM

I used to have 2--Phoebe and Bailey. Phoebe passed away the end of September, so now only have Bailey and 4 horses. None of them like to quilt. I think that is a good thing, keeps the cat hair off my quilts--a little.

3 here. Spook stays inside and is my little buddy, Theo is the hunter, and Odd is just odd. He doesn't want anything to do with anybody, but very loudly announces when he decides to come in the house. He's a very cranky cat and hisses at everything. Give Theo something to chase and she's happy. Spook just wants to have all the attention. She just showed up one day, and chose me as a snuggle partner.

I think animals frequently pick their owners. I know when I got my little hound he wasn't at all what I was looking for. The lady at the shelter told me that the little dog in the next room was for me even though he didn't remotely resemble what I was looking for. She said that every time I spoke he'd charge the kennel door to try to get to me. I went over and looked at him and I was smitten. I named him Smitty and he was a wonderful dog for his entire little life.

joyce blint 10-29-2011 11:26 AM

I have 3 indoors, PeeWee, Sadie, and Smokey-all shades of gray. Outdoors are 5 others -all yellow & white.

SUZAG 10-29-2011 11:27 AM

I'd rather have a dog but I have 2 cats...BF thinks we aren't home enough to take care of a dog. A few years ago I asked the BF (he was 60, I was 52) if we could adopt a baby...he was so relieved to find out it was a kitten...LOL So Gizmo (buff/blue ragdoll) came into our home and then he needed a brother to play with and along came 8 year old Ollie (orange long hair)from the Humane Society. We have hair all over and usually I take a part of them with me to work. I used to wear blacks and navys...LOL They are very close!

Baby Catcher 10-29-2011 11:28 AM

1 cat, 1 dog, 1 house rabbit.

ssgramma 10-29-2011 11:29 AM

One cat right now, Isla, but MIL's got another Siamese Manx that DH helped her pick out. Brooklee Blue will be ours when/if and MIL is 89 so who knows?

Avatar, Teddi, left us October 1st :-( but 2 of her siblings and her Dad all live at the neighbors barn and they all visit us (lured by food LOL).

lovelyl 10-29-2011 11:40 AM

I have 6 cats - five outdoor rescued cats and one indoor rescue that has a neurological condition commonly called "head shake". That is why she is an indoor cat. We did have one more outdoor rescue, but we lost him last week when he wandered down our long lane and into the road. I miss him. Oh, and there is one more cat that we are trying to rescue, we feed him, but he won't come close to us yet. He lives in back of the grocery store we go to.
I would love to have dogs also, but the law here says they have to be fenced or chained. It would be tough to fence in our hilly property, even a small portion.

SherriB 10-29-2011 11:43 AM

We have two kitties, Caspurrr and Precious. We also have a grand-kitty. Does that count? LOL

Dina 10-29-2011 11:58 AM

I have two indoor cats and two outdoor/formerly feral cats. I used to have 9 outdoor/feral cats until coyotes got 7 of them this spring. I have a yard that coyotes can't get into, but I guess those seven just strayed too far from it. I had even caught (not easy with feral cats...cages and everything) all my ferals and had them neutered so I wouldn't have too many cats. Didn't know the coyotes had other ideas. This is the first year the coyotes have gotten so close to our place.

I love seeing all the animals, dogs and cats, that inspect quilts. Such a helpful group. :)

kiffie2413 10-29-2011 12:05 PM

My dear kitty has been gone 3 years, she was almost 18 years old...and I still will sometimes think I see her out of the corner of my eye...I hadn't gotten back into quilting until after she passed..We don't have another cat, and I doubt I will ever have one...I do love to see the pics on here where some of you have "helpers", though!
