After suffering from severe hip pain for a couple of days I went to my doc last friday. He send me this morning to the hospital for an x - ray and guess what:

There is a more than an inch long piece of an injection needle in there sticking in my hip bone!?
I "knew" about it, but since it happened more than 30 years ago, I`ve forgotten all about it a long time ago.

The doctor back then didnt say a word but about half a year later I had an x-ray where it showed. They told me to take care of it, otherwise I would get problems sooner or later. I was so young and there was no pain.........so what.

So it took that darn thing more than 30 years to move into the skin of the bone and the pain is almost killing me. Have to wait for thursday morning to go to the hospital where they will discuss on how to take it out.

please keep your fingers crossed
(my Janome horizon was delivered this morning and I hardly can sit!?)

Oh that is terrible, crossing my fingers and toes! When I first read the topic I was thinking sewing needle, and couldn't figure out how you could get that in your hip bone.

DebraK 07-25-2011 06:31 AM

oh no. My thoughts are with you for an easy procedure and speedy recovery. Congrats on you new Janome!

QuiltnNan 07-25-2011 06:36 AM

ouch! i can't believe that the original doctor did not insist on the repair.

katieranch 07-25-2011 06:40 AM

Oh, my! Hope the "fix" is not too difficult so you can use that wonderful Janome! Good luck and God's blessings by on you.

MadQuilter 07-25-2011 06:41 AM

I'm sorry you have to deal with the pain. Honestly, I chuckled at the title of this thread and wondered what kind of a quilter you are. lol Wishing a speedy removal of the offending sliver.

ontheriver 07-25-2011 06:45 AM

Hope you can get it taken care of soon and be pain free, that new machine is waiting.

babyfireo4 07-25-2011 06:55 AM

Praying for a speedy fix and recovery. Hope you get to play with your new toy very soon!

The lady at the x-ray told me that the radiologist will contact my doctor by tomorrow.....he did before lunch today and I got a phonecall at 12.30 noon.
He was all the time talking about a "sewing needle" - "not seen in 30 years of practice" and then I finally told him to stop that sewing needle talk and that it was part of an injection needle!
I am a newbie quilter but further than into my finger I never managed to mislead a needle

Thank you all for your good wishes, I really feel miserable.

No kidding!!! I can't believe they didn't take care of at the time it happened!

QuiltingGrannie 07-25-2011 07:10 AM

Oh my!
Can't believe they didn't take care of it 30 years ago!

Talk about sitting on pins and needles! You have been doing that for years!

I hope it will be a simple procedure to get out!

Praying for pain relief!

ptquilts 07-25-2011 07:18 AM

wow, can't believe the original doc left it in - big malpractice lawsuit waiting to happen (at the time).

Sandee 07-25-2011 07:33 AM

Good Luck with the "removal Process"! Make sure you get antibiotics!!!!

lyndad 07-25-2011 07:38 AM

Hope you get it out soon and feel better!

lauriejo 07-25-2011 07:43 AM

It seems to me that the doctor who originally left the needle behind should at least cover the cost of the removal.

grammiepamie 07-25-2011 07:43 AM

I am so sorry for your pain. I am sending prayers to you for a successful outcome and also to the Doctor who is caring for you.

Thoughts and prayers your way for a speedy and successful removal and recovery.

Hopefully, you will be sewing again in no time.

Jim's Gem 07-25-2011 10:00 AM

Ouch!!! I sure hope they are able to remove it without too much more pain!!

blueangel 07-25-2011 10:08 AM

OMG I can't believe that

QuiltingJaguar 07-25-2011 10:15 AM

Ouch, its hard to believe part of injection needle is in your hip. I had right hip replaced about 3 yrs ago and all went well, nothing else in there that I don't know about. LOL Not sure if the original Dr is still practicing and how insurance will believe all this. One for the books. Will be thinking and praying for you. Let us all know the outcome.

lynnsim 07-25-2011 10:24 AM

I'm so sorry to hear of your pain. I'll be praying for you.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune! Hopefully all will go well and you will be pain-free soon.
Back in 1979 I was in a car crash that sent my head into the windshield (seatbelts weren't required then). I looked like I had run thru a rosebush. Well...long story short about 6 years ago I had a piece of glass come out! It was about as small as the lead on a new pencil. I knew it was there but couldn't do anything about it. The doctor said it wouldn't show up on x-rays because it was glass and to just let it work its way out. It looked like a pimple for a time before it finally came out.
Good as new now, just kinda freakish!

eastermarie 07-25-2011 04:49 PM

Would a super strong magnet pull it out?

Sunflower Girl 07-25-2011 05:04 PM

Ouchie! Hope you get it out soon so the pain will be relieved and you can enjoy your new machine asap!

Mickie612 07-26-2011 03:11 AM

Good luck on getting it out. About 45 yrs ago my them sewing machine had a pin cushion on the door and I bent over to pick up something and broke a needle off in my hip, had it removed and bore the laughs in fact my husband still will tease me when I say I need some needles. Congrats on the new machine.

annthreecats 07-26-2011 03:16 AM

Hope you are better soon.

wolflady 07-26-2011 03:39 AM
