I have finally finished all my phlebotomy classes. I have been in school for 2 and half years. I started off taking medical billing and coding classes but found it mind numbingly boring. So I decide that phlebotomy was for me and I just got my results back and I passed everything all I have left to do is my clinicals and Iam ready for a job!!! not bad for a 49yr old, I finally know what I will do when I grow up. thanks for letting me share my good news.

My hubby is a lab tech and runs a phlebotomy business on the side going to people's homes and collecting their blood if they're too busy or too feeble to go to the collection clinic.
And two of our good friends have just retired from a phlebotomy clinic. It is a good job and you'll meet many interesting characters! Good luck in your job search! |

Keep up the good work! Carol |
I finished MIBC last year after being laid off from a retail career, and couldn't find a job anywhere! Have a detailed medical background, long story short, life threw me a curveball and I moved 5 hours back north with my daughter and grandkids, was here 2 weeks and got a job! Not in MIBC, as a cook for a Sr Center! I am blissfully thankful and it is only 2 blocks from the house! Sometimes things don't always work out the way we want, but end up better in the longrun! BTW, I am the same age, never give up!!! Congrats! Awsome job!

Way to go!!!!

I was a lab tech way back in the 50's & 60's and we were lucky enough to go around the hospital doing our own blood draws before going back to the lab. That was my favorite part, to meet the patients.
Can you imagine, in this day and age, if you had to sharpen your own needles? Vacutainers?? We had to wash and sterilize our own glass syringe parts and then try to match up plungers and barrels so the plunger would go into a barrel without blood being able to leak out around the edges!! And then take the needle off to put the contents into test tubes. Most of the testing was done "manually". Blood counters were just coming in. In the lab we ran a "normal" blood sample every morning to calibrate and guess who were the "normal" samples!! That's how I found out that I had Mono! Ah, thanks for the memories!! Enjoy your career! |
Thanks everyone, I knew you all would apreciate what I have accomplished.
|
Congratulations!
