I must be getting old!

In my new sewing studio, my computer and sewing machine are in an L-shaped configuration. This morning I rolled my chair from my sewing machine to the computer and searched with my foot for the foot pedal to start my computer up...wow. Had to laugh at myself when I realized what I was doing!

Or looking for the clutch pedal while driving an automatic transmission car - - -

If you have a tablet computer, you know that to enlarge something, you touch 2 fingers to the screen and spread them apart. I caught myself doing that to printed text the other day. Didn't work worth a darn.

mandyrose 05-02-2018 12:11 PM

lol that was a good chuckle glad i'm not alone..........

Chasing Hawk 05-02-2018 12:29 PM

Your not getting old...............you just have a Quilter's brain like the rest of us.

yolajean 05-02-2018 05:57 PM

I do that often! My car and the truck are manual transmission. Since they are the vehicles I drive the most, I'm used to a standard trans. When I drive my 66 mustang or my husband's car which are automatics, I'm always trying to clutch and shift.

I also occasionally try to lower the needle on one of my vintage machines by tapping the foot pedal like I do on the Bernina.

quiltingcandy 05-02-2018 09:49 PM

That's great! When I learned to sew, my mother had a Singer 15-91 in a cabinet and the foot pedal was attached to the cabinet so you push your knee against the lever to make it sew. For years I couldn't figure out why I was always pushing my right leg into the leg of my sewing table. When she gifted the machine to me 30 years later it finally occurred to me.

Ha ha! You're in good company here!

Boston1954 05-03-2018 02:56 AM

Join the club! :)

I've been doing stuff like that for several years.

quilterpurpledog 05-03-2018 03:10 AM

Because I still have and use a Singer 401A in a cabinet with the knee control I cannot get the brain to fathom using the knee controlled presser foot lifter on my BERNINA machines! Oh, well!

Karamarie 05-03-2018 04:07 AM

Or - using the tv remote to make a call or vice versus. I guess we're all sort of alike.

JENNR8R 05-03-2018 04:09 AM

Have you ever tried to use your car remote button to open the door of your house? I did that many times until I finally got a door with a combination lock entry. I love it! No more fumbling with keys.

SillySusan 05-03-2018 05:02 AM

Yesterday I pulled up to the gas pump on the drivers' side of the car. My car has the gas cap thingy on the passengers' side. But, hey, I only had this car for 12 years! :)

MamaLinda 05-03-2018 05:14 AM

So thankful to not be alone in my oddities. Like opening the freezer to nuke the coffee.

luvstoquilt 05-03-2018 06:28 AM

Laughable and totally know the feeling!

Each morning I turn on the computer, enter my password, then wait for Firefox to open. Then I remember I have to click the icon to open it!

My hand goes round and round a few times looking for the shift lever! Ha, ha.

Garden Gnome 05-03-2018 08:10 AM

More than once I have pointed the TV remote at my husband to mute him. Doesn't work.

Me, too! I sit there pressing with my knee and wondering why the needle doesn't go. All that happens is the presser foot goes up and down. I have seldom used that knee control because of that. I still have my 301 in its custom cabinet and it works very will with the knee action.

JanieH 05-03-2018 10:49 AM

I still feel around on the floor of the car for the button to press for high and low beam headlights.

Becky's Crafts 05-03-2018 10:58 AM

I still find myself trying to shift my old pick up truck with the shifter on the steering column and we drive a car now. Goes to show how much time I spent in it! Loved that truck! Still miss it!

You can't be that old... you're still driving at night! LOL

This is great! I've done many of these things, lol... Even remember the button on the floor of the car for brights, my sister had a cute old Valiant to start with.

misseva 05-03-2018 02:47 PM

My son and I were in Virginia. I was visiting him when he was in the Army. We rented a car, but when night came we turned on the lights and couldn't figure out how to turn off the high beam. We thought we would have to not drive until daylight. We asked a policeman about it and he showed us that it was now on the stick by the steering wheel, not on the floor. That was early '80s.

recycler 05-03-2018 07:08 PM

Good thread!! I hate to think how many times I've tried to make a phone call using my computer keypad!

dellareya 05-03-2018 08:47 PM

When our phone rings I often land up trying to answer the phone with the t.v remote control. I know I'm getting old.

DesertNurse41 05-04-2018 07:22 AM

I felt stupid

I was a travel nurse working in Phoenix. I went out to leave and the truck wouldnt start. I was neyond mad. We arent supposed to miss any days because our contracts are only for 13 weeks. So, i called and said o couldnt make it in. Hunby comes home and i get worked up all over again. Guess what, its starts right up for hom. After he burst up laughing he figured out what went wrong. I forgot to push the clutch in!!! Id only been driving stick for 35 yrs!! Yrs later, he still asks me if the clutch is working!!! I felt soooo dumb

janjanq 05-04-2018 07:49 AM

At work I would occasionally try to use my telephone to add up figures instead of my ten key adding machine.

SillySusan 05-04-2018 08:05 AM

Thanks to y'all for making my day by admitting to such stuff. LOL! LOL! What a hoot! I left my admission here a day or so ago. I am no longer "getting" old. I am just old. I have done almost all the things you have done... with remotes, telephones, plus a few times plugging in an electrical appliance and turning on a different one and wondering why it didn't work. I love this thread! I love y'all! We could write a book....

mac 05-04-2018 09:53 AM

I just tried to call someone on my TV remote control. Glad I am in good company.

sewvicki 05-04-2018 10:54 AM

I picked up my purse to go to my craft group yesterday and it felt much heavier than usual. Looked inside and found my cell phone And my home phone. You are knot alone. I already knew I was old.

Clarice29 05-04-2018 01:58 PM

I confuse the remote with the telephone more then once.

oreo1912 05-04-2018 06:47 PM

My husband has a stick shift and my car is automatic. I don't drive his often but I never ever forget to put in the clutch, however when I get into my car I try to put in the clutch. You would think that since I rarely drive his car I would be more likely to forget the clutch....never happens. The mind is a strange thing.

I totaled our minivan, and we decided that since we no longer have to tote hordes of teenagers here and there, we'd go a bit more upscale with a Chrysler 300. Pushbutton for all kinds of things: multiple buttons to adjust the seat 3,678 different ways, a button to adjust the outside mirrors, electronic "keys" that you never have to take out of your purse or pocket -- more buttons that lock or unlock the door and start the car.

But we couldn't figure out how to adjust the rearview mirror. Where's the button for *that* mirror? We looked all over, looked in the car's instruction manual (Well *I* did. DH didn't want to.), nothing. So we finally called the dealership. We explained the problem to the young lady who answered the phone. "Umm...you just move it with your hand." http://www3.telus.net/smile/images/rofl-k2.gif

Good one , your not alone ;)

When I'm cooking something, I've been known to put the ingredients back in the wrong place. Non-refrigerated stuff has been found in the fridge, and (worse) supposed-to-be refrigerated stuff has been found in the cab!nets, hours or days later. :hunf: I'm not getting old, though. I'm just super-busy. Yeah, that's it. :p :D
