I remember playing outside with my friends, usually til dark. And they we played in the yard, catching fire flies while our parents sat on the porches and chatted about their day.

Candy bars were just a nickel and a quarter would fill a bag with candy at the 5 and dime store. And milk at school was just a penny a carton.

Stores closed by 9pm and didn't open til 9am the next day. And most stores closed early on Wednesday.

JCPenney and Sears sold fabric and had a lunch counter.

The roads were oiled & graveled every year.
If you road the school bus it didn't stop at every corner.

Here's mine, movies were 10 cents for a Sat matinee and 18 cents for a Sunday matinee.

Oh, and someone mentioned the can-can slips, oh my how we worked to starch those to see who could get the biggest circumference they were hideous and very uncomfortable.

I remember while babysitting, I knew the job was almost over when the Air Force's Blue Angels flew over on the TV while the National Anthem was being played... at midnight the TV went to snow until 6am... all three channels!! and we wonder why there is so much garbage on the TV... trying to fill programming 24/7 on untold numbers of channels is quite a task, I suppose... sigh....

I remember when Halloween night was fun and carefree.... You could go to any door - you knew all the neighbors, the parents didn't have to chaperone, you never questioned if the Treats were safe, and Tricks were occasional harmless pranks.

My Mom wouldn't let me have Barbies b/c she thought Barbie was inappropriate for little girls :)
I had baby dolls :)
